Graceful shutdown of a virtual domain
Hi All, I''ve been looking through the code and list archives but haven''t found this yet... From dom0, how do you cause a virtual domain to gracefully shutdown? It seems like the machinery is there somewhere, because the hypervisor can do it to dom0... For reference, in UML you do this by putting this in /etc/inittab: ca:12345:ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -h now ...and then

RH 7.1 and Ctrl+Alt+Del [off topic]
I know this isn't samba problem, but I hope that You'll understand. I have RH 7.1 installed (Kernel 2.4.2-2) and I have strange, funny but really dangerous problem. In every moment (even when there is login screen) in text mode when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del my machine simply shuts down. Is there any fix for this? PZDRWM Szmoyn

About the article OS_Protection by JimPerrin
Evolution (aka JimPerrin - or is this the other way around?) has been working on this excellent wiki article: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection However, the discussion is taking place at his own blog site http://www.bofh-hunter.com/ . Because this is a CentOS wiki article, I just wonder why we cannot do it here. Sure, his blog site may collect a wider audience, but we traditionally

xen 3.3.0 etch sources console hangs
I installed xen 3.3.0 on a etch box from sources. I just modified the standard kernel cause of some hardware drivers. I installed xen-tools from backports (3.9-3~bpo40+1). To create a domU ist not the problem. I can connect via ssh and everything works fine. But when i start a domU with "xm create host.example.tld.cfg -c" to login to console from domU it hangs after the message

Wiki Update - Aide Link
Hello All, My username is MikeThompson The link to configure Aide at the bottom of this page: https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection Is dead, and says its dead, however, the old link to http://www.bofh-hunter.com/2008/04/10/centos-5-and-aide/ now redirects to a malicious website. One of my less than savvy users got his windows machine infected there last night. I'm wondering if it

Opensuse 10.3 does not charge dom0
I decided to upgrade from openSuse 10.2 to openSuse 10.3. I installed xen things, but when I boot using xen option the system is blocked. It appears the green window, with little suse logo in the middle, and mouse cursor, but the system crashes. My computer is a Pentium 4 1,5 GHz, 512 MB of RAM. I attached "diff boot.msg boot.omsg" (as diff opensuse-normal-kernel opensuse-xen-kernel)

The AIDE section of the Hardening CentOS wiki page
I have recently received an e-mail message regarding the above wiki page. I reproduce it, below, less the header. As I was the last to edit that page, I am mentioned in the details at its foot and that is from where the message author's error originates -- as I'm not the original creator of the page. The broken link is to a section of the blog of Jim "Evolution" Perrin. Are you

Well, I wasn't a member of this list until today
But I guess with Akemi dragging me out over the OS_Protection page, I'm a member now :-P I've got no problem discussing it or other changes here. I set it up on my blog mostly because there wasn't a way to have comments on the page, and I didn't want to open the wiki page up to editing by outside sources right away. -- During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes

prevent users from fiddling with network?
Dear Experts, "this is system from the hell!" Than was my first reaction when I realized that logged in with GUI (X11) user can turn off (and on) network interfaces. Without being in sudoers file. Wow, this is scary to see on workstations I manage centrally. Even though I did consider local user to be able to execute the command "shutdown" (which distinguished RedHat and
