0.11.4 tidings
I''ve tried 0.11.4, and it has not yet crashed, even after I removed (most of) the workarounds. However, the same is also true of 0.11.3... I haven''t seen any of these crashes for several days, which is a very good thing. I can''t remember all the workarounds I did to sidestep the crashing; some of them I don''t want to reverse because they actually were also

term vector blues
I have a lot of crashes when I try to use term vectors. Here''s an example, which crashes pretty consistently. This problem seems to be somewhat sensitive to platform... people on other OS''s and ruby versions have reported no error. I have seen this with ferret 0.10.13 and 0.10.14 on debian stable using ruby 1.8.2, but I have observed the same problem on various other systems as

Need help for coding an extension to ferret
Hi, i''m working on a project using Ferret for indexing it''s datas. I''m very happy with it but i need to code an extension to implement a .to_json method to TopDocs class, because ruby''s json implementation is really really slow... It''s my second (the first was the tutorial :/ ) ruby C extension, so i''m not really at ease with ruby C

Building native extensions fail on Macbook Pro
I noticed that indexing seemed a little slow, so I tried reinstalling the 0.9.1 gem and noticed some errors while it was building the native extensions. Ferret still works with the pure ruby versions, but I''d love to take advantage of the c speed. I''m not real familiar with C, so I was wondering if anyone know what the errors are and if they can be fixed. Thanks -Lee ******

Hi dave, and everyone ;) I''ve finished my extension to export Index.search(..) loaded results into json. memory leak in index build?
I have a script (below) which attempts to make an index out of all the man pages on my system. It takes a while, mostly because it runs man over and over... but anyway, as time goes on the memory usage goes up and up and never down. Eventually, it runs out of ram and just starts thrashing up the swap space, pretty much grinding to a halt. The workaround would seem to be to index documents in

How can I count frequency of terms in a document?
Hi, there. I need some help. Is there a way to count frequencies of terms in a document on Ferret? I know that Ferret has IndexReader#terms_docs_for method which counts all documents. I need to count frequencies of terms in a specific document. Some way?? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

FerretHash
Dave, thank you so much for the 0.11 release(s). You have solved many problems for me. As part of my appreciation for your good works, I am offering up for public consideration a silly little class that I wrote. (Code is below.) This class offers a simplified Hash-like interface to (a very restricted subset of) Ferret. Hence I call it FerretHash. FerretHash comes with its very own pet Ferret

crash on repeated search
I have found another crash in ferret; this one just uses a regular search. It''s similar to an issue reported by Matt Schnitz a while ago, but unlike his, mine does not go away if I turn off omit_norms. It does go away if I turn on the garbage collector more often, but I''m not sure that''s a stable workaround under the circumstances. This one isn''t a

seg fault, ferret 0.10.11
Hi, we''re using Ferret 0.10.11 with acts_as_ferret (stable from svn), on a unix box, running rails 1.1.6 in production. a few days ago i rebuilt the index (by deleting the previous one and letting acts_as_ferret do its thing), and it ran fine for a few days. this evening i got a seg fault when one of the indexes was being updated via aaf, and now all ferret searches are busted,

I was optimizing a 650MB using ferret (0.11.3) and I received the following error. I''ve seen some people have similar issues but I haven''t seen any resolutions. Corrupt index and segfaults with heavy writes?
Hi everyone, We''re running a fairly heavily used Rails app that uses ferret (and acts_as_ferret) for search. We''re running on mongrel+Apache, Ruby 1.8.4, and ferret 0.10.13. We''re indexing a handful of attributes on our "Image" and "User" models. After the system has been running for several days, the index gradually becomes corrupted, and ferret
