Php 5.2.x support ends
Thinking of just sitting on this for awhile? Thoughts? Last release for PHP 5.2 & updates for 5.3 PHP Logo The users of PHP 5.2 should upgrade to 5.3 at their earliest convenience, as the active support of the 5.2 series came to an end with the release of version 5.2.14 earlier today. PHP 5.2.0 was released almost four years ago and according to the release announcement,

Database Installtion of Spacewalk ?
In wiki content http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/PackageManagement/Spacewalk Oracle Database --> Installation, I found this : You will also need a client to access the database. Download the Oracle Instant Client: i386 client or x86_64 according to the architecture of your server. Download the following two (2) RPM packages: * oracle-instantclient11.2-basic-11.2.0.2.0.ARCH.rpm *

Markup for commands
Hi, I just edited http://wiki.centos.org/de/TipsAndTricks/BecomingRoot and formatted all the commands in section 1.1 as `monospace`. Since the main font and the monospace font look quite similar, it is sometimes difficult to see where one ends and the other starts. Therefore I propose to add the following CSS rule to the whole CentOS wiki: #page tt.backtick { background-color: #eee;

Most admins will edit their /etc/sudoers file to give themselves sudo access, so they could run [username at machinename ~]$

Using "root" Type User Via Forwarding-SSH-Tunnel Inside Non-Root SSH Connection
Hi, QUESTION: what implications are there when using the "root" or a root type of account via a port-forwarding ssh-tunnel inside (or on top of) another non-root type of user's ssh-tunnel ? Is such double layer of encryption brings more security or system still vulnerable same as single layer of SSH encryption ? DETAILS: In CentOS (6.3 & 6.4) server side i have done these: (1)

Problems with building an rpm
I followed the setup instructions from http://www.owlriver.com/tips/non-root/ (link from the Centos wiki). All this is done on another 'clean' system, so I have to read the terminal screen there and tell what went wrong here. I then followed my colleague's instructions to get the tar, untar, autogen, configure, and finally make rpm. Well it was that make rpm command that finally

VNC Questions
Fresh install of CentOS 5.4 (and my first experience with CentOS). Following install, the first thing I did was enable desktop sharing so that I can control this new 1U box from my Mac workstation. The VNC client sees this as "Warren's remote desktop" but I'd like it to be more meaningful, as I have other remote desktops. Where in the user settings/prefs do I change the way

becoming root
Hi List, I've just drafted a FAQ/mini-HOWTO on becoming root as this is a topic I see come up time and time again. Perhaps someone with a reasonable understanding could check it for technical correctness, and if anyone would like to offer comments/feedback?? Any suggestions as to where might be an appropriate home for this on the Wiki? Regards, Ned (attached below)
