R-SIG-Fedora Digest, Vol 21, Issue 3
Ranjit,
Thanks for the follow up, the open source community is incredible.
Long story short, I was able to install through the repositories. Then
cleaned up some other issues (tcl/tk, java and others) and did a custom
install of 2.10.
Which brings me to another question, when yum installed R2.11 as an update,
did it use the settings from the original 2.10 repository installation or
did it

Rename public folders
I've got a number of public mailboxes configured for my users. We pretty
much have to use Entourage for a client, which insists on creating all new
subfolders with the name 'Untitled Folder'. When they try to rename these
subfolders with useful names, Dovecot returns
A028 NO [CANNOT] Renaming not supported across non-private namespaces.
I guess this is because renaming a subfolder

Duplex printer + samba + cups
Gentleman,
In one of my slackware servers I put samba acting as a printer server
connected to a Hewlett-Packard 2420D (D stands for duplex).
In CUPS I'm using the 'raw' driver. So I let the clients to perform the
driver stuff.
On samba, I followed the procedures described on

[PLUG] new plugin, acts_as_modified
Nothing special, just my first plugin. it came out of a request I saw on
the list from someone who wanted to be able to tell if a model''s attributes
had changed prior to being saved. Well, this plugin does just that (at
least I hope it does).

Please see the README for details. Constructive comments and criticisms are
appreciated.

More on the archive bit saga
Thanks to all that have helped so far.
I now have a test server running on Ubuntu 6.06 and Samba 3.0.22. I also
configured ACL and user_xattr on the filesystem running the shares. But
now I have very strange behavior that I hope someone has a clue about.
User smith can open two files (foo.txt and faa.txt) with Notepad,
Wordpad and Microsoft Word. The behavior for all three is different:

winelib problems with .configure
I am attempting to use winemaker on a relatively straightforward
Windows App that we have. Just a little background, we started the
effort by first evaluating our application in Wine itself and obtained
very good results. Now, we're moving on to try and compile a version
for Linux by using Winelib and running into this problem. I ran
winemaker with this: winemaker --lower-all which finished

I've downloaded the latest DB2 client, and its ODBC registration program complains that this is missing. No threads or references here. There didn't appear to be a download for it at M$.
A search yielded lots o sites that offered it. Any recommendations?

12th Root of a Square (Transition) Matrix
Dear R-tisans,
I am trying to calculate the 12th root of a transition (square) matrix, but can't seem to obtain an accurate result. I realize that this post is laced with intimations of quantitative finance, but the question is both R-related and broadly mathematical. That said, I'm happy to post this to R-SIG-Finance if I've erred in posting this to the general list.

truncated normal
Does anyone know of an R-function that will generate an observation from a
truncated normal (left or right) with a mu and sigma2? Any correspondence
would be greatly appreciated.

Census ARIMA x-12 seasonal adjustment in R?
Hello,
I am new to usin R - which is a great tool - and would like to know if R
has a seasonal adjustment program for time series and/if it incorporates
the Census Bureau's ARIMA x-12 seasonal adjustment program in any way?
Thanks so much!

listof
Dear R developers
A question about the class 'listof', defined in package 'stats'.
Other than its definition and use in the code for 'anova',
we can't see that the class 'listof' is used for anything else
(in recommended packages, or elsewhere).
In the spatstat package we have been using a 'listof'
to represent a list of spatial objects of the same

Fax for Asterisk download selector broken?
In what appears to be the most current documentation of FFA I'm directed to
http://www.digium.com/en/docs/FAX/faa-download.php
However the download selector utility found there "ain't working".
Specifically, none of the drop lists appear to be populated (in any browser,
on any platform), thereby preventing any actual 'selection'.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there

Sybase 12.5.3 on CentOS 5
Folks,
After installing CentOS 5, I installed a few Sybase dependencies such as
compat-libstdc++-296 and libXp.
Once Sybase was installed, I started the steps to create the Adaptative
Server. When the wizard executes the dataserber binary it crashes with
segmentation fault.
Someone can give me some help on this? Does anyone have this working?
Thanks in advance!

[PATCH] pxelinux corrupts ipappend-ed paramaters...
Attached patch addresses following problems with pxelinux:
1. If a x0y number is present in ip address to be ipappend-ed, middle
zero is omitted, e.g. 192.168.0.109 is passed as 192.168.0.19.
2. UDP port numbers allocated by pxelinux.0 are 100% predictable,
which might cause trouble when client reboots too fast for orphaned
tftpd process to time out.
The latter problem is [suggested to
