How to secure web services created by ActionWebService?
Hi,
Does anyone know how I can go about securing web services created from
ActionWebService? The manual from rubyonrails.org
(http://manuals.rubyonrails.com/read/book/10) doesn''t say anything at
all on this ... or do I have to implement my own access control?

AWS Client - There has to be a better way
I''m working on building a SOAP client with AWS, i.e:
class PersonAPI < ActionWebService::API::Base
api_method :find_all, :returns => [[Person]]
end
soap_client = ActionWebService::Client::Soap.new(PersonAPI,
"http://...")
persons = soap_client.find_all
This works well but I think it breaks down quickly when you try to do
real world work. Lets take a moderately

ActionWebService SOAP Faults aren''t schema valid
I''m working with an ActionWebService client
talking to an ActionWebService server through one of
DataPower''s XS40 XML Security Gateways. One of the
intrinsic functions of this gateway is automatic
SOAP schema validation.
When testing some failure cases, I noticed that SOAP
Faults returned by ActionWebService aren''t schema valid
to the SOAP 1.1 schema, specifically:

soap4r 1.5.5 seems to break actionWebService tests
Hi,
I just upgraded to soap4r 1.5.5, and now all my Rails Functional tests
for the action_web_services fail as follows, any ideas what I did wrong?
Thanks

actionwebservice soap client
So I''ve created a few actionwebservice soap servers now and have been
accessing them from a stand alone ruby client using soap4r. Now I
have a rails app that needs to act as a client to one of my soap
servers. From what I can tell, I basically have to copy all the api
definitions from the server and put them on the client? Is that
correct? Makes sense and seems kind of strange all at

multiple return values in action web service
Hi all,
Does anyone have any advice about returning multiple values from an
ActionWebService? That is, I''d like to implement something like the
following.
api_method :do_something,
:expects => [{:id => :string}],
:returns => [{:return_code => :int},
{:return_text => :string}]
The easy way to do it would be to

Actionwebservice as a SOAP client to .NET services.
I have read the (scant) documentation on the datanoise
actionwebservice gems and can''t figure out how you are supposed to
structure the SOAP client.
Has anybody ever used actionwebservice as a client? If so could
somebody please put a sample someplace?
Thanks.

Rubygems Issues
I recently upgraded a server''s rubygems from 0.9.0 to 1.2.0. Upon
doing so, one of our apps that uses soap4r thinks all the security
certificates it sees are invalid (see Error 1 below). I tried
reverting to 0.9.0, but anything that uses rubygems crashes now (see
Error 2 below). If anyone could help me solve either problem, that
would be great. Ideally, I''d like to run the latest

ActionWebService and namespaces
Hi all,
I''ve tried to search the mailing list, web, etc. and haven''t found
anything that seems to answer my question.
I have a WSDL for a web service written in Java, and I''m trying to
consume it in ruby using ActionWebService. I''ve created my API and some
struct classes. I''ve found the :namespace option to
ActionWebService::Client::Soap.new, but

New Sampling question
I have another question about drawing samples from a data frame. This might
sound really tricky. Let me use a data frame I have posted earlier as an
example:
SubID CSE1 CSE2 CSE3 CSE4 WSE1 WSE2 WSE3 WSE4
1 6 5 6 2 6 2 2 4
2 6 4 7 2 6 6 2 3

Sampling question
Hi,
You may try:
dat1 <- structure(list(SubID = 1:8, CSE1 = c(6L, 6L, 5L, 5L, 5L, 5L,
3L, 3L), CSE2 = c(5L, 4L, 5L, 4L, 6L, 4L, 6L, 6L), CSE3 = c(6L,
7L, 5L, 3L, 7L, 3L, 6L, 6L), CSE4 = c(2L, 2L, 5L, 4L, 5L, 6L,
3L, 3L), WSE1 = c(6L, 6L, 5L, 4L, 6L, 4L, 6L, 6L), WSE2 = c(2L,

acts_as_taggable_on environment issues
Like most people, I''ve got two machines: one for development and one
for production. I''ve done everything I can to make sure the ruby/rails
environments are the same, but of course they''re not identical (I''ll
get into that in a moment). The error that I''m getting happens when I
call a method in a background task controller on the production
machine; I

XML-RPC Webservice API
Hi,
After following the excellent tutorials in the Agile Web Development
with Rails book, I was able to get my webservice working pretty much
perfectly :)
I can access it via SOAP and XML-RPC and look at service.wsdl to find
the API. What I can''t do however is get the API for the XML-RPC call. It
fails with :
Internal protocol error: NilClass is not a valid input stream. It must

Authentication on delegated web service methods -or- How the heck do I protect these things?
I need to restrict access to only certain parts of a web service I''m building.
Instead of requiring a client to submit their user/pass with each interaction I''d like to login them in once (currently using acts_as_authenticated in the rest of the site) and not have to fuss with it again during that session. Only problem is I can''t use AAA on an ActionWebService

ActionWebService and WSDL
The suggested approach for developing a web service using
ActionWebService appears to be start by defining the API you want and
then you can generate WSDL. I want to start from WSDL. I''ve tried
wsdl2ruby but the Ruby code it generates does not appear to play well
with Rails. Is there a way I can get what I want? I''m new at this so if
the answer is a forehead slapper,
