rkward on Ubuntu heron with R2.8.0
I am running R on Ubuntu Heron.
I recently updated to R 2.8.0 from the default (2.6) in the Ubuntu heron
repository by adding
deb http://cran.stat.sfu.ca/bin/linux/ubuntu hardy/
I updated all packages installed in /usr/lib/R/site-library and those in
my home directory /home/duncan/R/i486-pc-linux-gnu-library/2.6
without obvious issues. I installed adehabitat and gpclib, which should
be good

problems with Rcmdr on R-2.10.0 with Karmic Koala
Dear R Debian People:
I have put this on regular R help as well, but thought that I'd try here too.
I updated to R-2.10.0 on Ubuntu Karmic Koala via apt-get update, apt-get install.
Then I had a problem that said that I need MASS <= R-2.9.2. Fair enough. Uwe Ligges was kind enough to point out that I needed to use
> update.packges(checkBuilt=TRUE)
So I did.
Now the menu on Rcmdr

R 2.11.0 for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx on CRAN
Dear Ubunutu R users,
Vincent Goulet and myself would like to announce the availability of R
2.11.0 for Ubuntu's latest release, Lucid Lynx. The packages should be
on or arriving soon to your favorite mirror. R 2.11.0 packages also
exist on CRAN for all Ubuntu releases going back to hardy.
As Johannes Ranke pointed out for the Debian release, R packages
installed under R < 2.10.0

installing ROCR/gplots packages blows up memory
When I try to install the ROCR package (which requires gplots) on
Ubuntu 9.10 (Xubuntu Karmic Koala) 64-bit on R version 2.9.2
(2009-08-24), it eats up all my RAM (2GB) and swap (4GB) and keeps
allocating more memory until Linux's out of memory (OOM) killer kills
the perl process. This problem is special to Ubuntu because I can
install other packages (such as party) on this Ubuntu system, and

Non-zero exit status for survival package
I'm running R 2.11 on Karmic. I'm having difficulty installing quite a
few packages with the returned error message of "installation of package
"[whatever the packages happens to be]" had non-zero exit status. I know
this message sometimes is caused by incorrect or missing java packages
and the like. I generally don't have issues with the installation of R
or R packages

Problem loading Matrix package in Ubuntu R 2.8.0
Dear List:
I'm having the same problem that was reported recently. The
latest version of R cannot load the Matrix package, even though it is
installed and readable. I've read the archive files for this list and
tried the suggested solutions (e.g., removing/uninstalling the Matrix
package and reinstalling it). Nothing has worked so far.
Does anybody have advice of what I could try next?

install.packages readRDS error
Hi,
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and I have just installed R 2.14.0.
When I try to install a package: install.packages("SPOT")
it returns an error message: "Error in readRDS(file) : error reading from
the connection".
Also, when I try the command in R: update.packages(), it returns the same
error message described previously.
Any ideas?

Running R in Ubuntu...really basic..sorry
Hi, I've actually run R quite a bit in Windows. I've had a release
8.04 of Ubuntu running a laptop for 3 days now. After struggling for
much of that time to install R, I finally figured out that Dell
shipped with the sources.list obsolete or just plain wrong. So I
finally got it installed last night (for some reason v2.6.2, not
v2.9.x). This morning I was able to download and install

Cannot install R on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Hello everyone,
I've spent the last 2 days trying to install base R on my Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
machine. I even just wiped my entire computer and reinstalled the operating
system thinking that was the problem (since some people have problems
updating R).
So far I've tried to follow this link exactly that has instructions:

Since I just reinstalled Ubuntu I

It appears that the revoluton-mkl package, available via the multiverse
Ubuntu repository with the purpose of adding multi-threaded numeric
libraries to R, is not function correctly with R 2.13 (at least the
version found on CRAN). Testing with "R-benchmark-25.R" (found at

the search fails. Tried typing and
cutting and pasting E084DAB9 into
