translation from windows to linux
Hi all, I started recently to use R with linux(ubuntu) but I often get code written under windows or mac. I have two questions. When I encounter a function which is not in R linux what is the best way to find the right linux function for it? So next time I can help myself. I browsed the web for a long time and could not find anything to the the function zip.unpack. Thats actually my second

R2WinBUGS
Dear R users, Can anyone tell me why I might get the error message "the array index is greater than the upper bound for t" in WinBUGS ? t is a vector I have defined. I have checked repeatedly that the array index for t does match with the upper bound till which the loop is run. I am facing this problem while calling the R2WinBUGS package and both in just WinBUGS as

R CMD check --as-cran attempts to hide R_LIBS_USER but fails
AFAIU, 'R CMD check --as-cran' tries to hide any site and user package libraries by setting R_LIBS_SITE and R_LIBS_USER. However, contrary to R_LIBS_SITE, it fails for R_LIBS_USER and the user's personal library is still available for test scripts. Should I revise my assumptions, or is that intentional? The short version. Shouldn't: $ R_LIBS_USER='' Rscript --vanilla -e

Compilation error during package installation
Hi, I am a Newbie for R. I just installed R-base on my notebook with openSuSE 11. However, I always got compilation errors in installing add-on packages. For example, when installing "igraph" I got the following error: ___________________________________________________________________ * Installing *source* package 'igraph' ... checking for gcc... gcc checking for C compiler

loading igraph package on Solaris
Hello, I'm having trouble getting the igraph package to load on Solaris. I can get igraph to compile and install from a local directory without issues using simply "R CMD INSTALL igraph", however "library(igraph)" from within R gives the following errors: Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now)) : unable to load shared library

Trouble compiling igraph. . .
Been and R-user for about 5 years now in an industrial setting, and always find the mailing list most helpful. I have run into problem compiling igraph on R. I have contacted the maintainer of igraph, and he has determined that it is not an igraph problem. System is FreeBSD 7.2, R-2.10.1 [also have a sandbox machine running FreeBSD 7.3, R-2.11]. Both machines fail the installation of igraph.

error in installing igraph
Hi R users, I got warning messages when installing the package, and I pasted the messages below. I checked updates that my R-studio is already the newest version. I don't know how to solve the problem. Thanks for your help. > library(igraph) Error in dyn.load(file, DLLpath = DLLpath, ...) : unable to load shared object

Improving RPM packaging for R; ideas gathered from the Debian folks
Hi, everybody. I've got some Centos Linux systems and some Ubuntu Linux systems. R's basically the same in either place, but the packaging of R for Debian systems seems better to me than it is on Fedora/Redhat/Centos. I joined R-sig-debian and we talk about package management issues there sometimes. One of the really handy R packaging ideas they have is to customize R environment so

conflicting imports despite using importFrom in NAMESPACE
Dear all, It is my understanding that using 'importFrom' in the NAMESPACE of a package allows to avoid conflicts between different packages defining objects with identical names. However, I can still see conflicts while loading the package using 'library'. Here is a toy example, with a package 'foo' importing 'as.igraph' from the igraph package, and 'nj'

R and igraph problems
I have R 2.15.0 running under Windows 7. I installed the igraph 0.5.4 package from a zip file. When I attempt to load igraph using "library(igraph)", I get the error package igraph is not installed for arch=x64.  When I repeat this using the 32-bit version of R, I get the same basic error but with "arch=i386" instead of x64. Imports, importFrom slow (for Matrix)
Dear All, before its latest version my package had 'Imports: Matrix' in its DESCRIPTION file, but it did not import anything in NAMESPACE. Rather, some functions explicitly loaded Matrix, as they needed. The reason for this was that importing Matrix is really slow, and only very few igraph functions need it. (I guess Matrix is slow because of the many registered names, but that is another

How to go about getting a change in the SPEC file from which R is built on EPEL?
I asked a couple of months ago in r-sig-fedora about a difference I noticed between Ubuntu and RedHat/Fedora. Now I think I've figured out the cause is a little issue in packaging but I don't know how to get it fixed. On Ubuntu, the setup is like this. It i is controlled in a file called Renviron R packages built/distributed in RPM are installed to /usr/lib/R/library. R packages built
