Maybe this is more a Ubuntu question,but...
I am trying to get synaptic to work with R
I have added http://cran.uk.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu as the URL and

But when I reload the repositories, I get an error

cran ubuntu repository and ubuntu 12.10
Since upgrading to quantal, I find that synaptic and apt-get cannot read
the sources.list file if it includes the previously standard line
deb http://lib.stat.cmu.edu/R/CRAN/bin/linux/ubuntu/ quantal
This line makes apt-get or synaptic give an error message identifying
this line as having a syntax error.
If "multiverse" is added at the end of the line, the line is parsed, but

Simple Gantt like chart for numbers rather dates
I would like to produce a chart that looks like a Gantt chart (or
shingle plot), but instead of tasks you have variable names and
instead of start and finish dates you have an upper and lower numeric
value.
If that makes sense, is there an obvious way of doing this.
Thanks,
Graham

Does anyone know if there is a package or other method of reading Genstat
files directly into R. Genstat isn't listed in the foreign package.

deleting an arow added to a graphic
I know this has got to be simple, but I have a added an arrow to a graph
with:

but its in the wrong position, correcting it and running again adds an new
arrow (which is what you would expect) so how do I
a) edit the existing arrow, and
b) delete it all together
As so often seems to be the case, some of the simplist things seem also to

[LLVMdev] maintaining names for types
Hi
I'm working on switching from generating textual .ll files in my front
end to using the llvm-c IR builder API instead.
One thing that I really miss is that when I dump() to a .ll file for
debugging, the type names are worse than useless, because many types
have been merged with unrelated types that happen to have the same
shape. This becomes very confusing when trying to map back to the

[LLVMdev] maintaining names for types
Shucks, I figured as much, but I was hoping...
Relatedly, it would be convenient to have a way to reliably influence
which name gets chosen for the merged type. If I could at least have
things like "%ObjHeader" not turn into
"%SomeUserCodeType_NestedUserClass_Blorp", that would go a long way.

[LLVMdev] maintaining names for types
I run into this problem as well. However, given the way LLVM represents
types and their names, there is not an easy solution to this problem. I
don't know of any real workaround that will not change the semantics of the
code.

Updating to a Development Version breaks 'wine-dev'
Hi, I am relatively new to Linux but know what I'm doing.
I have installed Ubuntu and WinE (through synaptic package manager so it took the latest stable version, 1.0.1)
Warcraft III worked perfectly in this version. But GGClient (also known as Garena, a program used to play low-latency games with others on the internet through a VPN) does not work in this version of WinE. So I looked it up,

A Problem : Can NOT install APT or Synaptic for v4.0
Hello,
There was no problem installing "APT" package in
CentOS 4.0 Beta, but so far I could not install
APT or Synaptic by "# yum install apt" or
by "# yum install synaptic" in a usual manner.
Is there any solution for this?
It seems to me, something is wrong only for these
two packages.
Regards.

I simply cannot install R on Ubuntu. I don't know why.
I don't mind using sudo apt-get update/upgrade/install buit I get into
crazy loops (hours) that clearly can't be trusted. But when I use
Synaptic (reload/mark for install R-base) every time I get some list
of things things it want to install as well and syas "Mark" which it
does not do and when I go forward with the Synaptic install of R-base
I get this (and abort) every time:

How to revert to wine 1.5.4 on Ubuntu 12.04 using Synaptic?
I am using:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu
as an additional repository in Synaptic so I can use the latest (released) version of wine, 1.5.
Today, with the wine 1.5.5 update, I can no longer run World of Warcraft, so I'd like to revert to the 1.5.4 version until the latest released version works. Unfortunately, I can't force Synaptic to use 1.5.4 (perhaps because the

I've installed Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy on my Mac. When using MacOSX, I used to
work with R 2.2.1, but now, with Ubuntu, I can't download it with

I've tried to edit the sources.list file, typing

rgeos on Linux requires GEOS 3.2.3, not 3.3.1
Some notes on installing rgeos in R 2.14.0 on a Linux Mint 11 (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu) machine
1. rgeos 0.1-15 will not run with GEOS 3.2.0-1, which is the version currently available on Synaptic package manager
2. I installed GEOS 3.3.1 (the latest version) from http://trac.osgeo.org/geos/, but rgeos will not run with this either
3. I then install GEOS 3.2.3, and now rgeos works fine!
It seems
