I simply cannot install R on Ubuntu. I don't know why.
I don't mind using sudo apt-get update/upgrade/install buit I get into
crazy loops (hours) that clearly can't be trusted. But when I use
Synaptic (reload/mark for install R-base) every time I get some list
of things things it want to install as well and syas "Mark" which it
does not do and when I go forward with the Synaptic install of R-base
I get this (and abort) every time:

Installing R on Ubuntu8.04; episode 3184
Thanks to everyone who has responded (esp. Michael, I greatly
appreciate but also recognize that getting R on my machine is not your
career). Your last response was (basically) uninstall, reboot, retry
Synaptic, if no good try:

Graphics Device; locator function
Hi, haven't been here for a while, but everyone one was always so
helpful I thought I would ask you another really basic question.
I'm running R2.9.1 in Ubuntu8.04 on a netbook (maxed out on memory etc
so I don't think that's a problem - wth it's a Dell Mini 9" with that
lpia non-architecture you told me about).
Anyway, some of the graphics functions/parameters are

build problem with 2.9p1 & p2
Greetings -
I don't think this is a bug; just something I don't understand.
I'm using RedHat Linux v7.0 with an i686 processor.
I've been using openssl v0.9.5a with openssh v2.2.1
I've upgraded to openssl v0.9.6b and openssh v2.9.p2
I've built both packages with the '--prefix=/usr' option.
During the openssh 'make install' at 'host-key' I get

What happened to Ross Ihaka's proposal for a Common Lisp based R successor?
Why is the described system preferable to Julia?

What happened to Ross Ihaka's proposal for a Common Lisp based R successor?
I read this paper
<https://www.stat.auckland.ac.nz/~ihaka/downloads/Compstat-2008.pdf> and
haven't been able to find out what happened - I have seen some sporadic
mention in message groups but nothing definitive. Does anyone know?

ansible: which repo?
What would you recommend: ansible is in EPEL8 and ConfigSIG.
For the latter I do not see any sources in git.centos.org.
Where they come from?
I wonder with which repository I should use (long term)?
dnf not checking gpg signature sounds scary:

Need help with changes to 'ScheduleDAGInstrs' on the v3.8 branch
I am stuck trying to adapt my out-of-target implementation to build on SVN
head (actually the v3.8 branch, rev #257626). This is currently working on
the v3.7.1 sources, but the changes to 'llvm::ScheduleDAGInstrs' have me
stumped as to how to revise my implementation to track the changes to this
class.
Our 'SHAVEAsmScheduler' derives from 'ScheduleDAGInstrs' and uses

Installing Packages in R - slight bump in the road
Hi,
sorry this is so basic but I feel I'm so close to being able to sit
quietly in a corner and do exactly what I planned from the start that
I thought I would ask. All I want is to do is to run R (2.9.0 finally
up and running!, struggling a bit with ESS but I'll get there) and use
it to learn Bayesian analysis and some similar stuff. Actually I
bought Peter Dalgaard's

What changed in the R Windows interface from v2.6.2 to v2.7.0?
Dear R-devel,
I would like to launch the Rgui.exe from a Fortran console application (we
will call this FortranCon.exe), that I have written myself. To do this, I
send the command line "C:\Program Files\R\R-X.X.X\Rgui.exe" (where X.X.X is
the version number) as an argument to the
Windows API function CreateProcess (see

plot 8 functions on one graph?
I'm trying to use
ggplot to make a single graph
that plots 8 distributions,
one above the other.
I created a data.frame
with 9 rows. The first
is the coordinate along the x-axis.
The next is the y-values for
the first distribution.
After that is the y-values
for the next distribution... and so on.
How do I call ggplot to use such a data.frame
to make a single graph of 8 distributions?

What happened to Ross Ihaka's proposal for a Common Lisp based R successor?
Is it conceivable that Julia could be ported to use R syntax in a way that
would allow the vastly larger numbers of R programmers to seamlessly
switch? Or equivalently, could an iteration of R itself do this?

[LLVMdev] Branch transformation with branch-weight metadata
Hello :)
I am looking around __builtin_expect() directive for optimization.
Since it is not included in v2.9, I am searching about it on svn trunk.
I found that the lowering phase generates branch-weight metadata node for
that directive.
However, I can't find any code related to the metadata even in the branch
transformation code.

ad-hoc query
How do you run an ad-hoc query that does not belong in any model? I
thought it was something like ActiveRecord::connection.find("my
query..."), but I can''t seem to find the documentation on it. I know
I''ve seen it somewhere before, though.
thanks,
Jeff
