Installing R on Debian testing...
Hello! I have posted this question at the R-HELP, general. I recently switched to Debian testing OS and explanation at the: http://cran.at.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian/ is a little bit fuzzy. Can anyone give step-by-step how-to have updated R on Debian testing and/or unstable. First, what line should be in /etc/apt/source.list? Second, how to "approach" to unstable versions? Thanks

Checking if the VM has been created
I'm a Libvirt newbie and I'd really appreciate it if someone could answer my doubts. I'm using Libvirt's Java API. My doubts: 1.Currently, I'm able to create a VM on Ubuntu 11.04 using Libvirt functions domainCreateLinux() and domainDefineXML(). Apart fromt the boolean return status of these operations and running the virsh list command, is there any way to SSH in (login) to

Run as root w/o terminal/gksu-polkit uses 100 % CPU
Hi, On CentOS 7, what's the best way to start a GUI program as root without a terminal? I mean, from a launcher or similar where you can't provide terminal input to "sudo". I'm talking about applications that aren't configured to switch to root out-of-the box, of course. I just tried gksu-polkit from EPEL, and it kind of did the job but: 1. It consumed *a lot* of

Non-destructive deduplication
Greetings. I use Dovecot 2.2.29.1 as my IMAP server. Owing to a bug in my mail client [1], several unique messages (mostly in my Sent folder) have duplicate Message-ID headers. Dovecot itself doesn't seem to be bothered by this, though my mail client is confused by the false duplicates. (It screws up the threading display, and results in data loss when I run the client's deduplication

Unable to install program: admin rights not continued
I am new to Wine so this may just be a stupid newbie trick. I did search this forum, the FAQ, and the documentation and didn't see this problem mentioned. I am attempting to install WordPerfect from CDs on a new Ubuntu setup. It appears to initially work (after asking for the root pwd) then it pops up an error "You do not have administrator privileges on this machine. Setup cannot

[LLVMdev] patch: CloneModule resets GlobalVariable address space
Hi, I found the following bug in llvm::CloneModule (svn, head revision). When copying over global variables the address space is reset to default. The patch changes that behavior by using the other GlobalVariable constructor that explicitely includes that information. info files
Hi, I'm a little confused as to how Debian deals with texinfo files. The R docs are a good example of my problems, so maybe you folks can explain how this works. What I've noticed is that the texinfo files for R get appended/indexed in /usr/share/info/dir as well as /usr/local/info. This results in duplicated entries when I browse the info tree from Emacs. The only solutions I can come

Fixing Ogg Vorbis files with incorrectly framed headers
Greetings. Possibly as the result of buggy tagging software, several hundred of my Ogg Vorbis files exhibit the following warning when examined by ogginfo: WARNING: Vorbis stream 1 does not have headers correctly framed. Terminal header page contains additional packets or has non-zero granulepos Nonetheless, most media players can play these files without any problem. A notable exception is

R 2.8.0 for Debian etch
Dear all, It is my pleasure to announce the immediate availability of R 2.8.0 for the current Debian stable release on CRAN. Source packages and binaries for i386 and amd64 are at your disposal. I also updated the README to include a short howto for using R 2.8.0 from unstable on testing (lenny), which is currently frozen. This currently pulls the current pcre from unstable, next to the current

slow tint when tinting the whole screen
Hi, I'm running ubuntu edgy with compiz, switched from gentoo to ubuntu for faster updates (emerge is way slow with source builds..). So far, I like it. but that is not the issue I'm addressing now. I've noted that with both these machines, when I'm doing something that tints the whole screen to gray (like trying to logout, or using some software that prompts for sudo

Darker markers for symbols in lattice
In lattice, using the command trellis.par.get for superpose.symbol, plot, symbol and/or dot.symbol shows that we can specify alpha, cex, col, fill (for superpose.symbol and plot.symbol), font, and pch. Trial and error shows that the font affects letters but not pch=1 or pch=3 (open circles and plus signs.) I want to use open circles and plus signs, keep the colors and cex I've specified but

Bold plot axis
Dear UseRs, I'd like to make the lines that the axes of my plot run on bold. I know "axis(side=1,lwd=3)" will make 0-max value on the axis bold, but I want the whole thing, from corner to corner (actually all the way around) and tick marks and the accompanying values for the ticks bold. In the default values, it's hard to see the plot when I put it into a powerpoint.

Xen Enterprise on Debian Etch
Hi all. Sorry for posting this to the devel list but the website is unclear on this issue. We''re about to purchase Xen Enterprise and would like to run it on Debian Etch (i.e. Debian Etch for the dom0 as well as the domUs). It looks like the deliverable when Xen Enterprise is purchased is a CD image containing a Red Hat installation. Can anyone point us at a supported method of

'plm'/'kinship' package on Debian Etch?
Hi Folks, Has anyone got a compiled binary of the package 'plm' and/or of the package 'kinship' for Debian Etch? I'm asking because I'd like to install 'plm', but have failed because it depends on 'kinship', and 'kinship' refuses to compile on my Debian Etch. The underlying reason is the Debian refuses to allow me to install the development
