bug on compilation (PR#11395)
Dear Mr. Beginning to work on Linux. I am trying to install R into Ubuntu Gustsy. I installed version 2.5.1 and worked fine. But then I tried to upgrade by adding these lines to sources.list: deb http://cran.fiocruz.br/bin/linux/debian etch-cran/ deb http://cran.fiocruz.br/bin/linux/ubuntu gutsy/ I introduced the authorization keys (as recommended) and the files were downloaded. But then I

errors upgrading to 2.4.1-1~sargecran1
I needed to upgrade to R 2.4.1 from debian stable maintained at http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian/. and tried to upgrade with apt-get install r-base. It installed R 2.4.1 successfully, but ran into errors while also upgrading r-recommended packages. I was able to fix that using apt-get install -f euclid:~# aptitude install r-base Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency

stable backport apt problem (solved)
Hello, I started writing this email to describe a problem, then fixed it, so I'll display my ignorance anyway in case other people have a problem with it. What happened was that I could get apt-get to upgrade the documentation packages, but not the others. What I think was the problem was some remaining r-cran-* packages that are now in r-recommended. These seemed to be blocking the

overlaid filled contour plots
I'm trying to make a set of contour plots of bivariate kernel density estimates, showing three such plots overlaid, similar to this plot http://euclid.psych.yorku.ca/SCS/Private/Test/ridge-boot2.pdf except that I would like to have the contours *filled* (using transparent colors). To make this reproducible, I've saved the results of KernSmooth::bkde2D() in the following file:

RMySQL installed but not availalable
I don't use MySQL but I have seen messages like this before. They often have replies which indicate that you need to follow the instructions more closely. I suggest you search the list for these previous posts as I'm sure there is help there, somewhere! Problem Updating from 2.71 to 2.8 in Ubuntu
Hello, I have recently installed Ubuntu (8.10) Intrepid Ibex and I am trying to get R version 2.8. I have changed my /etc/apt/sources.list file to include a mirror. I have also added the Vincent Goulet key. However, whenever I run sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install r-base it installs version 2.71. Given that I am new to Ubuntu, is there anything that I need to do to make ubuntu get

rmpi/snow grabs all available CPU
Hi, I'm testing affyPara on Debian lenny with R 2.7 from unstable, and the corresponding bioconductor packages from bioconductor.org downloaded using biocLite as per usual. The command cl = makeMPIcluster(k) succeeds, but spawns k R slaves which promptly soak up all available CPU, which is odd since they are not doing anything yet. This looks like a bug to me. Similar behaviour is shown

Installation woes for rattle (and other packages)
Yesterday I wanted to try rattle on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty. I had (and still have) it running (though it complains on startup a bit -- I'll look into that later) on a different bootup on the same machine with 8.04 Hardy. I got an error that libglade cannot be found, and various attempts to get glade support failed. I removed and reinstalled R -- same problem. To avoid the issue of local setup

Package Installation in RGui (PR#7262)
In reference to the thread http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/devel/04/10/0859.html I have the same problem updating packages with newly-installed version of released version of R 2.0.1. Previous posts refer to a bug in windows. I wonder if there is a work-around? This probably should go to R-help but it follows on from the post in R-devel. Apologies in advance. debian packages and html help on linux
I have a fresh installation of R from debian unstable packages. The html index found in /usr/lib/R/doc/html/index.html works in Mozilla and under the link of 'packages' on this page I have a list and corresponding links. However, it appears that not all packages I have installed from available deb files via apt-get, will get their link updated to this package index. Specifically, from

Next release of R, August 31st
I'm trying to make a habit of announcing upcoming releases on r-devel, to give package maintainers a chance of staying in sync, and to encourage everyone to report bugs in the prerelease versions. So: R-1.3.1 is scheduled for release on August 31st. In order to be able to get a solid round of testing on different platforms, maintainers of the group of recommended packages are requested to

Trying to install R on Lucid Lynx
Hi: I installed Lucid Lynx amd64 on my system today, dual booted with Win 7. I've managed to install several packages through the Ubuntu Software Center with success and also installed texlive. Alas, installing my favorite software has not been so joyful. I went through the last few months of posts in this group to find something similar, but to no avail. After a couple of false starts, I
