How can I count frequency of terms in a document?
Hi, there.
I need some help.
Is there a way to count frequencies of terms in a document on Ferret?
I know that Ferret has IndexReader#terms_docs_for method which counts
all documents.
I need to count frequencies of terms in a specific document.
Some way??

Strange Results For Term Frequencies
I would like to thank all the people who have contributed to this very
fine project. Great work!
I''ve encountered some strange results while examining the term frequency
of one of my indexed documents. The indexed terms seem to vary for the
very same document depending on the presence or absence of completely
unrelated operations in the code, so the resulting term frequency
changes, too.

term vector blues
I have a lot of crashes when I try to use term vectors. Here''s an
example, which crashes pretty consistently. This problem seems to be
somewhat sensitive to platform... people on other OS''s and ruby versions
have reported no error. I have seen this with ferret 0.10.13 and 0.10.14
on debian stable using ruby 1.8.2, but I have observed the same problem
on various other systems as

Ferret 0.11.1-rc2
Hey guys,
Just released Ferret 0.11.1. Hopefully this will fix *most* of the
problems people were having. Now that I know gcc hides stack overflows
on Ubuntu because -fstack-protector is set, I won''t get caught by that
one again. Anyone know any other gotchas I should be aware of on
Ubuntu.
Please try the new version and let me know if you are still having
problems with it. I have until

FerretHash
Dave, thank you so much for the 0.11 release(s). You have solved many
problems for me. As part of my appreciation for your good works, I am
offering up for public consideration a silly little class that I wrote.
(Code is below.) This class offers a simplified Hash-like interface to
(a very restricted subset of) Ferret. Hence I call it FerretHash.
FerretHash comes with its very own pet Ferret

Ferret 0.11.0 tests segfault
I have an important segfault when I create the index (via

I decided to run the tests, this is what I have :

Ferret and non latin characters support
I''ve successfully installed ferret and acts_as_ferret and have no
problem with utf-8 for accented characters. It returns correct results
fot e.g. fran?ais. My problem is with non latin characters (Persian
indeed). I have tested different locales with no success both on Debian
and Mac. Any idea?

svn problems
I can consistently segfault the 0.10.4 gem, so I''m trying to get the
subversion version working with hopes towards tracking the problem down.
I have a fresh SVN checkout but:
a) the version (in ferret.rb) claims to be 0.9.6; and
b) Ferret::Index::FieldInfos and a couple other classes are missing at
run time. It looks like this is because they''re not exported in the C

index returns all results for specific queries
Hey all,
I''m getting some really weird results when searching documents. It
*seems* to be somehow related to the document format I''m using.
I wrote a small script to replicate it:
################
#!/usr/bin/ruby
require ''rubygems''
require ''ferret''
include Ferret
index = Index::Index.new(:path => ''/tmp/fooindex'', :key

Trouble with custom Analyzer
Hi!
I wanted to build my own custom Analyzer like so:
class Analyzer < Ferret::Analysis::Analyzer
include Ferret::Analysis
def initialize(stop_words = ENGLISH_STOP_WORDS)
@stop_words = stop_words
end
def token_stream(field, string)
StopFilter.new(LetterTokenizer.new(string, true), @stop_words)
end
end
As one can easily spot, I essentially want

memory leak in index build?
I have a script (below) which attempts to make an index out of all the
man pages on my system. It takes a while, mostly because it runs man
over and over... but anyway, as time goes on the memory usage goes up
and up and never down. Eventually, it runs out of ram and just starts
thrashing up the swap space, pretty much grinding to a halt.
The workaround would seem to be to index documents in

Ferret 0.9.0-alpha (port of Apache Lucene to pure ruby)
Hi Folks,
I''ve just released version 0.9.0. This latest version of Ferret is an
alpha release. I have removed the old c extension and Ferret is now
running on a fully ported C library. This has allowed some huge
performance improvements both with regard to memory and CPU usage.
There will probably be a few portability issues to start with. It has
been developed on Linux so it should

Newbie having full text search problem with acts_as_ferret
Hi guys,
I am using acts_as_ferret to do full text search on my models and I am
having problem on three-letter word searches.
I am going to use an example to explain my problem. Here it is:
There is a table called users and it has login, first_name, last_name
columns. There are three rows inside it.
login first_name last_name

Getting non-stemmed terms from IndexReader
I need to get a set of terms being indexed using Ferret. I used
IndexReader.terms and it returns a list of TermEnum nicely. The only
problem is that my analyzer includes a stemming filter.
So now, the terms I''m getting back are all stemmed. Is there anyway to
get the original unstemmed terms back from the index somehow? Thanks.

[Ferret] Serious memory leak on Joyent / TextDrive / Solaris
There is serious memory leak bug in ferret. I''m having this error on
TextDrive Container (aka. Joyent Accelerators) OpenSolaris with Ferret
0.11.4
It happens while searching for some terms with accented or special
characters.
This makes ferret to allocate lots of memory (usually reaching 3+ GB)
and failing if another query like this is executed.
Any ideas on that, could this be locale

Ferret 0.11.0-rc1
Hey folks,
Sorry for cross posting like this but this is an important
announcement for all Ferret users.
** Description **
Firstly for those who don''t know, Ferret is a full-text search library
which makes adding search to your application a breeze. It''s much
faster than MySQL full-text search as well most other search libraries
