Multiple Questions: Xen4CentOS
Hi, Trying to get a handle on the 'not included' aspects of Xen4CentOS. Anyone care to share their experiences with xm vs virtinstall vs virt-manage. Currently I'm running one xm create config to launch a CentOS cd based kickstart install, then I use a second xm create config to run the created systems. Thoughts on pvgrub and running unmodified kernels from within the pv guest. Is

Guest domU installs
Just a thought I wanted to throw out but having been running Fedora Core on my AMD64 for awhile now and getting to look at their Xen install I've had a few thoughts. Mostly related to installing domU's. FC has a virt-install that is written in python that's in their python-virtinstall package. It's a nice way to install the domU but it only works currently with a FC install.

Could not find an installable distribution
Hi all, I am trying to install OpenSUSE 11.1 as a para-virtualized DomU on an opensolaris2009.06 guest using the xvm packages provided via IPS. I followed the instructions available here: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/docs/virtinstall/ but I get the following error when trying to install from a NFS share where I mounted the iso (as far as I understand the only way to get a Linux

Help recovering zfs filesystem
Let me preface this by admitting that I''m a bonehead. I had a mirrored a zfs filesystem. I needed to use one of the mirrors temporarily so I did a zpool detach to remove the member (call it disk1) leaving disk0 in the pool. However, after the detach I mistakenly wiped disk0. So here is the question. I haven''t touched disk1 yet so the data is hopefully still there. Is there

qemu-img snapshots with backing stores?
So, I was attempting to use qemu snapshots with backing stores. The QEMU docs (http://wiki.qemu.org/Documentation/CreateSnapshot) make it sound like you simply point your qemu at the snapshot after it's creation, and you're golden. When attempting this with libvirt, though, it fails. I created a snapshot using the above tutorial. the resulting file is disk.0, and a qmeu-img info on it

Building samba for Ubuntu 18.04
I would like to develop my own ability to build samba for Ubuntu. The Ubuntu packages are woefully out of date. My main question is whether I should build samba with the same configuration options as the Ubuntu packages, or use the default samba configuration. Mostly I'm concerned about the paths. Also, I would build the full version of samba with AD DC and member server capabilities FWIW.

VDQ Repos for CentOS 7
I have a woefully dumb question. When I tell my wife's laptop, with CentOS 7 installed and a live ethernet cable plugged into it, "yum update," it fails saying that it doesn't see any repos. What do I need to do to?

Swap: typical rehash. Why?
I can't resist. Read the thread that was pointed to on lkml. ROTFLMAO. *Real* UNIX addressed these problems long ago. I guess the "Gurus" suffer from NIH (Not Invented Here) syndrome. Given a "general purpose" system, tunability is a must. UNIX, as delivered by USL in such examples as Sys V, had tunables that let admins tune to their needs. A single "swappiness"

Xen4CentOS python-virtinst version issue, blktap2 problem
Hello, It seems currently when you "yum update" CentOS 6.6 Xen host you end up getting python-virtinst from c6 base repo: python-virtinst-0.600.0-24.el6.noarch and not from Xen4CentOS repo, because the version there is "older": 0.600.0-19. .. which means the centos/xen-specific patch in python-virtinst is "lost". (default to tap2 instead of tap1, to make blktap2

DomU networking problem in opensuse 11
Hi, Creating a new domain is a lot easier in opensuse 11. I follow the instruction on the website and build a virtual machine which uses opensuse 11 as well (I installed it from iso image). Everything works fine except the network. I cannot access the Internet from DomU. Here is some information. P.S. the DomU id is 1. "brctl show" in Dom 0: bridge name bridge id STP

Don't panic.
There are a couple of instances when sshd will send a message to syslog saying "Don't panic" if you are logging auth.info. I change this on my site because Big Brother monitors the logs and freaks out when it sees the word panic. Do you think it is worth submitting a bug report to change the wording to use a word other than panic? -- Mark Keisler "Blessed is he who
