Where to place custom classes?
Hi all, I am writing a simple shopping cart which will consist of a single class. There will be no DB table for carts so I do not want to make my Cart a model. But where do I place my Cart class so that I can access it in my controllers? I want to be able do do things like this (for instance in a shop controller): def add_to_cart @session[''cart''].add(article_id, amount)

Re: VFS calls after disconnect
Hello, Below is the sample code almost similar to the one in Samba Developers's guide. I tested it with a win2k client for samba 3.0.2a on FreeBSD. When the example_connect is called the second time by the same client handle->data is null. The test can be reproduced as follows- 1) search for the computer from windows explorer. Access the vfs share and create directory or perform any other

RE: Prototype: correct useage of onCompletewithAjax.PeriodicalUpdater
The only call that PeriodicalUpdater will make periodically to you is the insertion call. I think of onComplete as being ''I''ve done everything I was going to do'', which for Updater is right after it''s done a single update, but for PeriodicalUpdater, it''s after it''s finished all of its updates, so you''ll only get it once for any call

RE: Prototype: correct useage of onComplete withAjax.PeriodicalUpdater
>From a quick look at the source code, it looks like onComplete is only called when the whole thing is done - in the case of Updater, right after the update, in the case of PeriodicalUpdater, right after it has been stopped. It looks like you need to pass your callback method as an ''insertion'' method in the options. This takes two parameters, the first will probably be the

Positioning of axis titles
Hi, I have created a plot using filled.contour() and have the problem that one of the axis titles and an axis label are overlapping. I have tried changing par()$mgp (with, e.g. par(mgp=c(4,1,0)) ), but this just makes the title go off the screen. I can't work out how to make the plot take up less space in the window, so I can hopefully change mgp and sort the problem. Is changing mgp the only

The RoR equivalent of out.write() in JSP?
All, In JSP, I can output strings in the Web page by either <%= foo %> //foo is a string or returns a string or <% out.write("test") %> //write directly to the output stream. What is the method of "writing to the output stream" in RoR? Basically, what is the equivalent of out.write()? I have an if then statement that I want to put around a call to h

StandardTokenizer Doesn''t Support token_stream method
According to the Analyzer doc and the StandardTokenizer doc: http://ferret.davebalmain.com/api/classes/Ferret/Analysis/Analyzer.html http://ferret.davebalmain.com/api/classes/Ferret/Analysis/StandardTokenizer.html I ought to be able to construct a StandardTokenizer like this: t = StandardTokenizer.new( true) # true to downcase tokens and then later: stream = token_stream(

I''m writing an upload script for contact management, but having encoding issues: #=> Encoding::UndefinedConversionError: "\xFA" from ASCII-8BIT to UTF-8 I will not always know the encoding supplied, and this is the result of `some_string.encode("UTF-8")` I have also tried .force_encoding("UTF-8") to no avail. For now I''m simply trying to

Associating with different classes
Dear Railers, I am toying with a new project and have a schema design question. I have a tree-like node structure. Each of the nodes will be associated with a single object. This associated object can be of a variety of types. I represent the tree through a Node class which acts_as_tree. Now imagine three other classes--Animals, Fruits and Vegetables. Each node will have an association

RE: Why class InstanceTag is defined at 4 different places inRails
In Ruby you can add and modify existing classes at will simply by reopening it. The 4 files you mention add functionalities to the InstanceTag class. This is not a redefinition. The best part is that you can do the same ! An easy way to overwrite an existing method or to add new ones is to create a file under you rails application lib directory and put in it the replacement you want to make:

Session and flash now working in IE6
Hi all, I noticed that my sessions and flashes are not working in IE6 (no problem with safari or firefox). I did a <%= debug session %> and indeed IE6 is showing session[:new_session] to be true all the time. This means a new session is created for every request. An old version of the same application is running on the same server under a different subdomain. In this sessions are

Proposal for UTF8 vs performance tip.
Avoid UTF8 processing if you don't need it and have extra speed Many often used utilities are much slower with UTF-8 processing. If you want extra speed and do not need UTF-8 processing, disable it using export LANG=C export LC_ALL=C (not needed if LC_ALL was not set) compare time grep -i -c some_string some_large files with LANG=en_US.UTF-8 and same with LANG=C On modern CPU grepping

Problem getting "extract" from RDig
Hi All, I have to have a site wide search for my current application. By search I mean I have to search the static and the dynamic contents from the database. I have been searching on this for a while on the net and RDig seems to be a apt solution. While using it I have encountered a few problems. I know these might be very basic issues but I have not been able to figure out what is wrong with
