FLAG DAY: vdiskadm import/export/convert
I''ve just pushed vdiskadm import/export/convert to the 3.3 vdisk and vbox repos. You can now import a disk image from a block device or file to a vdisk, convert (in place) to a different type of vdisk and export from a vdisk to a block device or file. I''ve also pushed the full vhd support (sparse and fixed) and the ability to import a vmdk 1.1 optimized stream file. An

FLAG DAY: vdiskadm translate
I''ve just pushed vdiskadm translate to the 3.3 vdisk repo. You can now translate data from one virtual disk data type to another without creating a virtual disk. This allows the user to use a vmdk file and directly translate the data into a zvol without having to import it first to a vdisk and then export it to the zvol. # vdiskadm help translate translate - translate virtual disk data

HEADS UP: iSCSI, zvol, and vdisk format support
Looks like I forgot to send this to the alias... MRJ ---- A quick heads up for the iscsi, zvol, and vdisk format putback I did into the 3.3 development gate. ISCSI ===== With this putback, you can now install onto and boot a guest using iSCSI disk(s). The iscsi formats supported are: phy:iscsi:/alias/<iscsi-alias> phy:iscsi:/static/<server IP>/<lun>/<target

Import vmware vmdk into xVM (osol-2009.06)
Good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has any in site as to how to import a VMware vmdk into xVM on OpenSolaris 2009.06 (xVM 3.1). I have a VMware VM created on VMware Server 2.0 and would like to move it over to this xVM server. I appreciate any advice anyone may have. Cheers, -Chris -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Both Xen and VirtualBox On the Same Physical Host?
Hi all, I have a Sun x2200 named Adra running OpenSolaris 2008.11 set up as a Dom0 per Levon''s instructions on this site. It hosts some production services and has been running nice and stable for a number of months now (with NetWare DomUs running GroupWise, believe it or not). The machine is pretty nicely speced out and there''s room for more virtualisation, so I was

Can a zpool cachefile be copied between systems?
Suppose that you have a SAN environment with a lot of LUNs. In the normal course of events this means that ''zpool import'' is very slow, because it has to probe all of the LUNs all of the time. In S10U6, the theoretical ''obvious'' way to get around this for your SAN filesystems seems to be to use a non-default cachefile (likely one cachefile per virtual

[cfe-dev] Is it a va_arg bug in clang?
Hi Richard, I tried latest 3.7.1 release, the clang has same build failure and don’t know __builtin_ms_va_list at all. I compared the llvm trunk with 3.7.1 and find the trunk has a VA commit from Davis which is not included in the 3.7.1 release. So, I guess I need to directly build the latest trunk instead of the 3.7.1 release. (why 3.7.1 release doesn’t include this patch?) commit

utmp grievances
Dear All, I have installed the current version of Slackware Linux which includes samba-2.2.8a. My previous system had samba-2.0.7 with the utmp patch by David Lee applied. The original/patched utmp support had a 'utmp hostname' parameter to select between logging by hostname or netbios name. This very useful parameter is missing from 2.2.8a. IMHO this is a real pity. Is this an oversight

copying live vmdk / vdi files
Hi, I would like to backup my Virtual Box VM folder. I have VDI and VMDK files in there. I am told I have to shutdown those virtual machines first in order for rsync to copy them correctly. Is this correct ? Thanks, Dan

SSH into LXC and install files via JAVA API
Hello everyone, I am trying to use libvirt's JAVA API to ssh into a domain and install some files, for example, dhcpd. Using virsh, its pretty straight forward using the command line: virsh -c lxc:/// create myguest.xml virsh -c lxc:/// console myguest virsh -c lxc:/// lxc-enter-namespace myguest -- sudo yum install dhcpd But in order to incorporate the above functionality in a JAVA API,

virt-install kickstart local file
Hi Everybody: I am trying to get virt-install to work with a kickstart file that is on the local file system. I tried using the --initrd-inject="/tmp" --extra-args="ks=file:/myks.cfg" but I got this error message: ERROR --extra-args only work if specified with --location. Here is the basic command: virt-install \ --accelerate \ --cdrom

Some bugs/inconsistencies.
Hi. I''m working on getting the most recent ZFS to the FreeBSD''s CVS. Because of the huge amount of changes, I decided to work on ZFS regression tests, so I''m more or less sure nothing broke in the meantime. (Yes, I know about ZFS testsuite, but unfortunately I wasn''t able to port it to FreeBSD, it was just too much work. I''m afraid it is too

S10u6, zfs and zones
My server runs S10u5. All slices are UFS. I run a couple of sparse zones on a seperate slice mounted on /zones. When S10u6 comes out booting of ZFS will become possible. That is great news. However, will it be possible to have those zones I run now too? I always understood ZFS and root zones are difficult. I hope to be able to change all FS to ZFS, including the space for the sparse zones. Does

Subsetting a data.frame degenerates at one column?
Greetings. At the moment, I'm applying R to some AIX 'nmon' output, trying to get a handle on some disk performance metrics. In case anyone's interested: http://docs.osg.ufl.edu/tsm/pdf/ some of them are more edifying than others. (ahem) I'm trying to develop a somewhat general framework for plotting these measures, in the hopes that it's of some use to people other

Bricks to sub-volume mapping
Hi Team, Please let me know how I can know which bricks are part of which sub-volumes in case of disperse volume, for example in below volume has two sub-volumes : Type: Distributed-Disperse Volume ID: 6dc8ced8-27aa-4481-bfe8-057133c31d0b Status: Started Snapshot Count: 0 Number of Bricks: 2 x (4 + 2) = 12 Transport-type: tcp Bricks: Brick1: pdchyperscale1sds:/ws/disk1/ws_brick Brick2:

zfs mirroring question
I create two zfs''s on one pool of four disks with two mirrors, such as... / zpool create tank mirror disk1 disk2 mirror disk3 disk4 zfs create tank/fs1 zfs create tank/fs2/ Are fs1 and fs2 striped across all four disks? If two disks fail that represent a 2-way mirror, do I lose data? Brian.
