Here is the situation:
/samba/users/personA/Phone.doc (0644)
/samba/public/Phone.doc (symlink to above file)
PersonB opens the Phone.doc in the public share with read-only access. PersonA
wants to open the Phone.doc in their user area with full access in order to
modify the file. However Word will only open the file read-only. When I check

How to have multiple fields appear in collection_select?
I have a table of employees with the fields "last_name" and
"first_name". I would like to populate a collection select so that what
the user sees in the drop-down is "Last Name, First Name". So far, the
only way I have figured out to do this is by using "find_by_sql" in my
model, like so:
@employees.find_by_sql("SELECT id, concat(last_name,

Problem with S4 inheritance: unexpected re-initialization?

To explain my problem I am attaching a demonstration package "myclasspkg":
I have the following two S4 classes with similar inheritance:
SubSubClassA <- SubClassB <- BaseClass
SubSubClassB <- SubClassB <- BaseClass
In R I am calling the following functions:

HABTM relations
Hi,
I have 3 tables with HABTM relation.
USERS -> QUOTE_TO_USER <- QUOTES
Table QUOTE_TO_USER has 3 attributes: quote_id, user_id, component.
I have a form where I can tie multiple users to QUOTE. This is easy one,
thru "user_ids" (@quote[:user_ids] = @params[:quote][:user_ids]).
In this form I have all users and I just check those I want to tie to
this quote, however

Controllers More Than One Sub-Directory Deep?
Does anyone know how to make Rails aware of controllers that might
exist in directories that exist deeper than one level under the
app/controllers directory? I initially figured just adding additional
scope information might do the trik (i.e. Tabs::Admin::OneController
or Admin::Tabs::OneController), but that does not seem to work.
I''m guessing that I can just manually add these

Web app developed in WInXP want to run on Linux
Hi All,
I have developed a web application using RoR on Window-XP. Now my server
is on linux and want to get this running on linux machine. I tried
starting the server but it failed to boot in boot.rb at this line:
unless RUBY_PLATFORM =~ /mswin32/
require ''pathname''
root_path = Pathname.new(root_path).cleanpath(true).to_s
end
so I changed(even though the file says

state_models plugin and file_column?
I was looking at Kyle Mawell''s extremely nifty-looking StateModels
plugin
http://www.kylemaxwell.com/articles/2006/02/06/fun-with-single-table-inheritance
and before I go down the road with it, I was wondering if anyone has
used it with file_column.
The way file_column deals with an uploaded file -- by storing it to the
filesystem in a path that employs the model name and id --

I can''t get rails to see my plugin. How can I this?
I''m trying to produce a plugin to help me with my page caching woes. I
can''t seem to get rails to see my method within the plugin. This is my
first attempt at a plugin so I''m sure I''m missing something. I''ve
created a directory /vendor/lib/plugins/broom_stick/. I then created an

R interpreting numeric field as a boolean field
Incidentally, "didn't work" is not very useful information. Please tell us
exactly what error message or apparently aberrant result you received.
Also, what do you get from:
sapply(your_dataframe, "class")
nrow(your_dataframe)
(as I suspect what you think it is, isn't).
Cheers,
Bert
