understanding zfs/thunoer "bottlenecks"?
Currently I''m trying to figure out the best zfs layout for a thumper wrt. to read AND write performance. I did some simple mkfile 512G tests and found out, that per average ~ 500 MB/s seems to be the maximum on can reach (tried initial default setup, all 46 HDDs as R0, etc.). According to http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/ArchitectureWP_062806.pdf I would

migration/acl4 problem
Hi, S10U3: It seems, that ufs POSIX-ACLs are not properly translated to zfs ACL4 entries, when one xfers a directory tree from UFS to ZFS. Test case: Assuming one has an user A and B, both belonging to group G and having their umask set to 022: 1) On UFS - as user A do: mkdir /dir chmod 0775 /dir setfacl -m d:u::rwx,d:g::rwx,d:o:r-x,d:m:rwx /dir # samba would

Xen EOF?
Hi, just found: PSARC/2010/250 EOF of Solaris xVM dom0 approved. So does this mean, Xen is officially dead on Solaris? bad seagate drive?
Hi list, I''ve got a system with 3 WD and 3 seagate drives. Today I got an email that zpool status indicated one of the seagate drives as REMOVED. I''ve tried clearing the error but the pool becomes faulted again. Taken out the offending drive and plugged into a windows box with seatools install. Unfortunately seatools finds nothing wrong with the drive. Windows seems to see

readCitationFile encoding
Hi, does anybody know, how to enforce a certain encoding for readCitationFile()? Haven't found any usable documentation for this :( E.g.: basecit <- system.file("CITATION", package="base") source(basecit, echo=TRUE, encoding="8859-1") readCitationFile(basecit) BTW: 'make check' is a relativ long running task and if one changes a source file, all

Upgrade from b113 to b122 - any gotchas
We are running 4 Solaris10u7 DomUs on a b113 Dom0 I''d like to upgrade the Dom0 to b122 but not rebuild the DomUs. Below is a typical DomU xml dump. Is there anything obvious that will bite me in upgrading from 113 to 122? Thanks John virsh # dumpxml achilles2 <domain type=''xen'' id=''1''> <name>achilles2</name>

xVM Ready for serious use ?
I currently have 2 x ESXi boxes that have VMs stored on a NFS/iSCSI debian lenny linux box. I had purchased a new whitebox server as an intended replacement for the linux box. I had always planned on installing opensolaris on the new hardware with this config; 2 x 640GB mirrored rpool 6 x 1TB in raidz2 This box was going to be built in parallel with the current server and I would have simply

Where does install.R go when R gets compiled? Or, how to experiment with changes to install.R?
Hello, everybody. I apologize if this is obvious. I've not tried to make changes in R code within the R source itself before. I'm pursuing an experiment to make RPM files for R packages on-the-fly. Any time I install an R package successfully, I want to wrap up those files in an RPM. Basically, the idea is to "hack" an option similar to --build for R CMD INSTALL. I observe

some fixes for R 2.01.1 on OpenSolaris using Sun Studio compilers
Hello, I recently built a 64-bit R 2.10.1 on OpenSolaris using the Sun Studio 12.1 compilers. I would like to contribute the following notes, to update the OpenSolaris installation instructions. ================================================ 0. GNU libiconv and GNU gettext are assumed to be in /opt/lib. GNU libiconv is easy to build from source. After building it, configure

Unable to Destroy One Particular Snapshot
Howdy All, I''ve a bit of a strange problem here. I have a filesystem with one snapshot that simply refuses to be destroyed. The snapshots just prior to it and just after it were destroyed without problem. While running the zfs destroy command on this particular snapshot, the server becomes more-or-less hung. It''s pingable but will not open a new shell (local or via ssh) however

?: zfs mv within pool seems slow
I have just upgraded my jumpstart server to S10 u2 b9a. It is an Ultra 10 with two 120GB EIDE drives. The second drive (disk1) is new, and has u2b9a installed on a slice, with most of the space in slice 7 for the ZFS pool I created pool1 on disk1, and created the filesystem pool1/ro (for legacy reasons). I them moved my data from the original disk0 UFS file system to pool1/ro. Initially I

SATA disk perf question
I figure this group will know better than any other I have contact with, is 700-800 I/Ops reasonable for a 7200 RPM SATA drive (1 TB Sun badged Seagate ST31000N in a J4400) ? I have a resilver running and am seeing about 700-800 writes/sec. on the hot spare as it resilvers. There is no other I/O activity on this box, as this is a remote replication target for production data. I have a the

System started crashing hard after zpool reconfigure and OI upgrade
I have two identical Supermicro boxes with 32GB ram. Hardware details at the end of the message. They were running OI 151.a.5 for months. The zpool configuration was one storage zpool with 3 vdevs of 8 disks in RAIDZ2. The OI installation is absolutely clean. Just next-next-next until done. All I do is configure the network after install. I don''t install or enable any other services.

how to add file-based disk space to a guest
hi there, I'm following these documentations to add a file-based disk volume to a KVM guest under Centos 6.0 : http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Virtualization/chap-Virtualization-Storage_Volumes.html as instructed, I created a "pool" then a "volume", file-based, e.g : mkdir /mnt/raid/kvm_pool1 virsh # pool-define-as pool1 dir - - - -
