R-devel/Linux x64/Sun Studio 12: Problem with Matrix
Dear Developers, motivated by the new Sun Studio checks I compiled R-devel and several of our packages with Sun Studio 12 on Fedora x64. Everything worked fine and R-devel runs, with the exception of package Matrix where compilation crashes with the following message. The error occurs during building of the recommended packages and also if Matrix is compiled separately: [...] CC -G -lCstd

[PATCH 5/8] powerpc/64s: implement queued spinlocks and rwlocks
These have shown significantly improved performance and fairness when spinlock contention is moderate to high on very large systems. [ Numbers hopefully forthcoming after more testing, but initial results look good ] Thanks to the fast path, single threaded performance is not noticably hurt. Using an Exec inside a define
I''m working on a definition for activating/deactivating Apache modules on an Ubuntu system. Inside my Apache class I have this definition: define module($ensure) { case $ensure { enabled: { exec { "a2enmod": command => "/usr/sbin/a2enmod $name", logoutput => on_failure,

Problem building R with Sun Studio Compiler
I would like to Build R-2.5.1 on OpenSUSE 10.2 using the SunStudio 12 compilers(http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/index.jsp) R builds and passes make check fine without optimising. However, when I try to compile with optimisation turned on (-fast) the build gets stuck in an infinite loop at the following point: Sun_Studio/sunstudio12/bin/cc -m64 -shared -Kpic -m64 -fPIC -o grDevices.so

7.0 issues fixed? upgrade timing?
1. I have a realtek network card and am using a cable modem router. Does anyone know if fixes for problems with these (see below) have been backported from HEAD to RELENG_7? 2. Is this a good time to upgrade to RELENG_7? 3. I read a post last week that advised that 7.1 is a long way off. Appreciate any advice on use of ULE 3.0 and ZFS prior to 7.1 and a comment on what is holding up 7.1. Thanks

[PATCH 0/8] powerpc: queued spinlocks and rwlocks
This series adds an option to use queued spinlocks for powerpc, and makes it the default for the Book3S-64 subarch. This effort starts with the generic code so it's very simple but still very performant. There are optimisations that can be made to slowpaths, but I think it's better to attack those incrementally if/when we find things, and try to add the improvements to generic code as

[PATCH v2 0/6] powerpc: queued spinlocks and rwlocks
v2 is updated to account for feedback from Will, Peter, and Waiman (thank you), and trims off a couple of RFC and unrelated patches. Thanks, Nick Nicholas Piggin (6): powerpc/powernv: must include hvcall.h to get PAPR defines powerpc/pseries: move some PAPR paravirt functions to their own file powerpc: move spinlock implementation to simple_spinlock powerpc/64s: implement queued

[PATCH v4 0/6] powerpc: queued spinlocks and rwlocks
Updated with everybody's feedback (thanks all), and more performance results. What I've found is I might have been measuring the worst load point for the paravirt case, and by looking at a range of loads it's clear that queued spinlocks are overall better even on PV, doubly so when you look at the generally much improved worst case latencies. I have defaulted it to N even though
