acts_as_ferret rebuilding issue with ferret 0.11.0
Hi, There is a problem with the way that acts_as_ferret verifies the index is valid. In ensure_index_exists it looks for a file named ''segments''. With the 0.11.0 release of ferret there is no file with this name. On my dummy application I have a ''segments.gen'' and ''segments_2y''. Changing the test to segments.gen fixes the problem that the

Ferret 0.11.1-rc2
Hey guys, Just released Ferret 0.11.1. Hopefully this will fix *most* of the problems people were having. Now that I know gcc hides stack overflows on Ubuntu because -fstack-protector is set, I won''t get caught by that one again. Anyone know any other gotchas I should be aware of on Ubuntu. Please try the new version and let me know if you are still having problems with it. I have until

Ferret 0.9.0-alpha (port of Apache Lucene to pure ruby)
Hi Folks, I''ve just released version 0.9.0. This latest version of Ferret is an alpha release. I have removed the old c extension and Ferret is now running on a fully ported C library. This has allowed some huge performance improvements both with regard to memory and CPU usage. There will probably be a few portability issues to start with. It has been developed on Linux so it should

Ferret and non latin characters support
I''ve successfully installed ferret and acts_as_ferret and have no problem with utf-8 for accented characters. It returns correct results fot e.g. fran?ais. My problem is with non latin characters (Persian indeed). I have tested different locales with no success both on Debian and Mac. Any idea? memory leak in index build?
I have a script (below) which attempts to make an index out of all the man pages on my system. It takes a while, mostly because it runs man over and over... but anyway, as time goes on the memory usage goes up and up and never down. Eventually, it runs out of ram and just starts thrashing up the swap space, pretty much grinding to a halt. The workaround would seem to be to index documents in

Getting non-stemmed terms from IndexReader
I need to get a set of terms being indexed using Ferret. I used IndexReader.terms and it returns a list of TermEnum nicely. The only problem is that my analyzer includes a stemming filter. So now, the terms I''m getting back are all stemmed. Is there anyway to get the original unstemmed terms back from the index somehow? Thanks. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Constant 0.11.4 Errors
Folks, Since upgrading to ferret 0.11.4 on Mac OS X Tiger, I''ve been running into constant crashes when running my Rails tests. Here''s an example of the output. -- snip -- 1) Error: test_published_blog_can_be_ferreted(BlogTest): Ferret::FileNotFoundError: File Not Found Error occured at <except.c>:117 in xpop_context Error occured in fs_store.c:329 - fs_open_input

missing terms in index causing search errors
I am unable to find results for models when one or more of the terms are not being indexed. Lets suppose I index a User on the phrase "Ruby on Rails." If I then search using User.find_by_contents("Ruby on Rails") I get no results, since "or" is a common term and does not get indexed. Of course, User.find_by_contents("Ruby Rails") works just fine. I

Ferret 0.3.0 released
Hi folks, This latest release of Ferret has a lot of improvements. There have been substantial improvements to performance. Try it for yourself to see. I won''t be publishing any numbers just yet. I will say though that it''s still about 2-4 times slower than Lucene with the extension installed. There is also some performance improvements in the pure Ruby version if you

"ö" causes find_by_contents not to return
I''ve installed ferret 0.10.9 together with the latest acts_as_ferret using Windows XP and indexed a location database (geonames.org) with Location.rebuild_index. The data is in utf-8. Now calling Location.find_by_contents "?" does not return a result, causes a lot of CPU load, and finally exits with an error "index.rb:702: in ''parse'': failed to allocate

Warming up a new Searcher/Reader (Ferret 0.10.9 win32)
Hi, I have a largish index [700MB] which is updated from time to time, requiring me to close and recreate the Ferret::Search::Searcher to use the latest index. My problem is that the first few searches on the new index are slow [by comparison to before the close/recreate], I''m guessing because the new index is being loaded into RAM by my OS and into Ferret as needed. I''m

Highlight method creates malformed characters.
Hello list, I''ve just updated to 0.11.3 and I came upon this problem. When using the highlight function in a rails application I sometimes get the error "Malformed UTF-8 character." It is just on certain documents and if I change the excerpt length the error disappears so it feels that if the highlight method cuts the text at the wrong character the function returns a
