[fdo] Idea for more consistency across toolkits
Hi, I had an idea which I think could dramatically improve the cross toolkit display of widgets. At the moment toolkits load their settings and a style from files stored locally where the client is running. The problem with this approach is that every toolkit has its own place and means of storing these settings. When programs are run from more than one toolkit they often appear very

color management spec
As part of my GSoC project I have to work out a spec that covers how applications should communicate color management related properties between each other and the compositing manager. The main idea of the project is to let the compositing manager do the color management on behalf of the applications. But before that can happen, the applications have to tell the compositing manager how they want

RE: [R] GUI support from R
Hi Duncan, I've been looking around at GUI toolkits to use with Python (and by extension R). I initially tried Tk, but was disappointed because there is no consistent set of high level widgets. I've subsequently done some looking at QT, wxWindows, and GTK. QT is out because I am a *commercial* user, and I don't want to have a license hassle. GTK seemed to have a lower level of

[fdo] Standardization of input methods on Linux?
Hello! I don't know how well this fits within the scope of Freedesktop's current work, but as a Linux user who studies languages, I think there's an area that could definitely use improvement, namely input methods for various Asian and other non-romance languages. While several solutions for inputting these languages are available, most of them seem to be of the "rocket

Qt 4.8.1. on CentOS 5
Hi, Has anyone here tried the latest Qt version - 4.8.1 - on a CentOS 5 system? I've tried, and also failed - most programs will crash during some very fundamental operation, like drawing windows or something. This only happens when GUI Style is set to "Desktop Settings (Default)" (when running GNOME) in the Qt Configuration, though, so it must have something to do with the Gtk

Acrobat Reader version for CentOS 3?
Having had a working version of Acrobat Reader, I upgraded to 7.0.5 a couple of days ago (without backing up the previous install, of course). Unfortunately, the acroread command fails with: GTK+ UI Toolkit libraries, ver. 2.4 or greater were not found. The (CentOS 3) standard libraries for gtk+ etc. are installed. Anyone know what is the most recent compatible version of Acrobat Reader for

help wanted: update ssh-askpass programs for new U2F / prompt hints
Hi, When we added U2F support, we also extended the interface used by ssh and ssh-agent to invoke the $SSH_ASKPASS program. Originally, the askpass prompt was used to obtain passphrases for ssh in cases where it was not possible to read them from the terminal. Later it was (ab)used for showing confirmation prompts for each use of any key that was added to the agent using "ssh-add -c".

mulitple OpenGL contexts in single window
Hi, I have a GTKmm application that uses two separate OpenGL widgets within the same window. When running under Compiz, I am getting some strange behaviour. Everything is fine when it is disabled. Essentially what happens is that any resize of the widgets causes X to hang for a second or two. After that, one of the OpenGL windows no longer gets properly updated. I've attached a
