Hacked?
This morning, I noticed in my security email, that my entire /usr/bin directory had setuid diff's set on them. I think I've been hacked. So I installed chkrootkit from ports and ran it. It showed not infected for everything, except NETSTAT. NETSTAT showed infected... I ran chkrootkit for another machine (at my office), and it showed not infected for everything. Both machines are

Hacked? (UPDATE)
Update, for those that want to know... The attacker used a worm or bot that tried hundreds (if not thousands) of connections through SMBD. (Samba). I was running 2.2.7. I noticed the attempts for a week, but the log file always showed "access denied" so I wasn't too worried about it. Well, obviously, one of those attempts got through... At this time, the worm (or bot) modified

GLMM random effects
Hello, I have a couple questions regarding generalized linear mixed models specifically around fitting the random effects terms correctly to account for any pseudo-replication. I am reading through and trying to follow examples from Zuur et al. Mixed Effects Models and Extensions in Ecology with R, but am still at bit unsure if I am specifying the models correctly. Tabulating using arbitrary numbers of factors
Dear R-help, First of all, thank you VERY much for any help you have time to offer. I greatly appreciate it. I would like to write a function that, given an arbitrary number of factors from a data frame, tabulates the number of occurrences of each unique combination of the factors. Cleary, this works: > table(horse, date, surface) <SNIP> , , surface = TURF

"reverse truncate" to extract only decimal values
hello there, Is there a way of truncating in the opposite direction so as to retain only the values to the right of the decimal?? i.e. rather than: > trunc(39.5) [1] 39 i would get something like: > revtrunc(39.5) [1] 0.5 I've been searching to no avail but I imagine there is a very simple solution! Are these events normal?
We have dropped dovecot in place of UW-IMAP for about 40000 users and have solved our immediate problem: disk I/O overload, mainly from people doing POP3 and "leave mail on server". Thank you! Now i got loads of dovecot error messages in the logs and don't know if there is any significance. Here are a few examples: The most common event is: 2007-12-06 16:00:17.837654500 dovecot:

Changing Quota downward for special Mailboxes? (2.1.6)
It seems there is no way to correct te quota limit downward for some mailboxes, like: quota_rule9 = UCE-TMP:storage=-10%% The idea is to not eat up the users storage with spam, so that spam stays in the queue (for some time) while real mail gets delivered. There *is* a line } else if (*value != '-' && relative_rule) { in quota.c, but nothing else handles it,

bad performance Vista <-> Samba over gbit
Hi, I've a strange issue with the performance of file transfers between a Samba server and a Vista client. My configuration looks like this: fileserver: Samba 3.3 on FreeBSD 6.2 ----- gbit switch ----- workstation: Vista x64 When transfering files between the two PCs, I get abount 6.5 to 7 MB / sec. On my last Vista installation I got about 40 MB / sec. I've tried the following: -

PRI Callerid Passthrough
Hey Don, How are you? I may be heading your way in the next month or so. Have to meet with a guy in Eden Prairie, and stop off at my brother/sisterm-in-law's as well. Got a question for you - with TBCT, who pays for the call once it is transferred? Still me as the owner of the trunk? Lets say I take a call that was dialled locally (caller believes this is "free"), and I do a

Nah, this is the first time I've posted here in years. Gennaly things just tick over with the application moving along in a nice straightforward manner, improvment upon improvement. Rsync is one of the mose important and usefu apps available for Linux and OS X (powered by APPLE!!!!); followed by ffmpeg and vlc (and Apache, I guess, but I don't do much of that anymore). The docs are very

Dialing patterns and "GSM" format numbers
H, Just a quick question that has been bugging me for a while..... Most of my address book phone numbers are stored in the format: +<country code><area code minus the 0><local number> i.e. +XXXXXXXXXXXX In my asterisk (Trixbox) server I would like to be able to dial numbers from my address book using HUD or the SIP client on my 3G phone using numbers in this format. OggPCM channel maps
I've tried to solicit discussion on this point in the past, but now I'd like the press the issue for a bit. I'd like to remove the less well developed mapping header (option 1) from the OggPCM draft, and make my/our (with Martin Leese) suggestion (option 2) the definitive one. If anybody objects, let's discuss it on-list. If not, I think it wouldn't be too bad of an idea

ttda on R 2.1.1: error
Hello, I'm trying to use the package ttda, wich is involved in text analysis, for my own data about answers in a company survey. I've installed it, as well as ispell, but when trying to use an example: > zz <- file("stupid.txt", "w") # build a data file > cat("{comment - stupid data file} \n" , file = zz) > cat("<uci=1>
