I want to override the ''tag'' method in
ActionView::Helpers::TagHelper to do some generalized
error handling similar to the way scaffolding puts a
red border around fields that fail validation.
I''ve created a file lib/rails_patches/tag_helper.rb
which contains the following.
module ActionView
module Helpers
module TagHelper

switching from development to production?
I think I''m missing a step here, but they don''t seem to cover this in
the AWDWR book... does anybody know the various steps required to switch
from development to production mode in Rails? I''ve scoured the
application and changed everything that stands out, but the damn thing
is still running off the development database and won''t connect to the

Login form question
I''m using Rails Recipes to create a login form but instead of username
and password, my setup is firstname, lastname, password.
I seemed to be gramatically challenged and not sure how to set up the
parameter list. Can anyone offer up a suggestion.
The book shows the method starting like:
if request.post?

making an integer from a float
Does anybody know how to turn a floating-point number (i.e. 60.345) into
an integer by cutting off or rounding the decimal portion? Either
method, or both, would be quite welcome. Thanks! This forum rocks!

the value in text_field helper
I have been working on this small, minute, part on my project and it all
hinges on setting the value in a text_field helper. Saying:
<%= text_field ''user'', ''company'', :value => @login %>
does not do it. When I go and look at the raw html, there is no value
there and "value" is an attribute of the input tag, im pretty sure. I

splitting a story with double-spaced para''s
Quick question - if i want to separate a long string of text, separated
by single carriage returns, into an array of paragraphs, I can use the
following code:
paragraphs = article.content.split("\n")
The "\n" means a carriage return, as far as I can tell.
If I wanted to take text, that had been written using the more common
double carriage returns, into an array of

Dealing with collections of model objects
For an application I''m writing I have a model object, "Answer", many
of which are associated with a "Request" object. A user will need to
answer many questions, each of which is stored in an Answer object
that is associated with their request (Request has many Answers). Is
there an easy way to create and then validate each of these Answer
objects?

How should I pick a random entry from the database?
Hi guys. Total newbie here. I''ve been doing web stuff since 1996 but
only began the foray into scripting last year. I haven''t got my skull
completely 360 degrees around OOP yet. It''s just me here (in Japan) and
there are no Ruby groups in my area (never mind any in English).
I''ve got a database table - real simple: question, answer, and id fields

based on user action. Now here is my situation:
I have model Project that has_many line_items
