Ferret 0.11.0-rc1
Hey folks, Sorry for cross posting like this but this is an important announcement for all Ferret users. ** Description ** Firstly for those who don''t know, Ferret is a full-text search library which makes adding search to your application a breeze. It''s much faster than MySQL full-text search as well most other search libraries out there. It allows you to do Boolean (+ruby +

Memory concerns ferret 11.4.
Hi list, We just built our own ferret drb server (mostly because we don''t do an indexing from within rails). The ferret drb server only handles index inserts and some deletes. Usually we make batch inserts were we retrieve a couple of hundred or thousands of documents from a database and then inserts them inte ferret one by one. We call flush every 50th file. We are very impressed

Ferret::FileNotFoundError - delete
Hi, we are using ferret and acts_as_ferret in a single server setup. We have 2 models that use acts_as_ferret. We are running into problems where a create or update of the models cause a ferret error Ferret::FileNotFoundError occured at <except.c>:117 in xpop_context Error occured in fs_store.c:329 - fs_open_input Where the file that needs to be opened isn''t there. The error

Corrupt index and segfaults with heavy writes?
Hi everyone, We''re running a fairly heavily used Rails app that uses ferret (and acts_as_ferret) for search. We''re running on mongrel+Apache, Ruby 1.8.4, and ferret 0.10.13. We''re indexing a handful of attributes on our "Image" and "User" models. After the system has been running for several days, the index gradually becomes corrupted, and ferret

MultiTerm query segfault - remote denial of service
Hi ferreteers, I came across a segfault in the query parser. It had already been reported[1] and fixed[2], but it can lead to a denial of service. If you use Ferret anywhere that you allow users to execute queries, those users can crash your Ruby process with a specially crafted query. I''m sure you''re all using Monit or something for your Rails or drb processes, so

Erratic behavior with ferret 0.95 and acts_as_ferret
I am getting this issue also... Does anyone know what this is? When will Acts as Ferret be available for v10? Thanks for your help in desperation! Acts_as_ferret and auto-flush
Hi, I''m using acts_as_ferret in with a mongrel and I'' m getting locking errors that after a while result in a corrupt database. I know about the problem with different processes writing to the index but I haven''t been able to get the DRB server working properly yet. I read on this list that another solution is to set :auto_flush to true but I''m not

Ferret FileNotFound error
Hi, I have a model that I''ve been indexing and searching with ferret some problem. We get the following error when accessing the model File Not Found Error occured at <except.c>:117 in xpop_context Error occured in fs_store.c:329 - fs_open_input tried to open "/var/www/html/cuproject/index/development/album/_b.cfs" but it doesn''t exist: <No such file or

Error : End-of-File Error occured at <except.c>
Everything was working fine till last night. This morning I have many errors. I am using acts_as_ferret. Last updated around a month ago on linux. There are two different type of exceptions. I have over 12 exception emails but these are the two distince types. First exception: A EOFError occurred in home#event_info: End-of-File Error occured at <except.c>:79 in xraise Error occured in

Constant 0.11.4 Errors
Folks, Since upgrading to ferret 0.11.4 on Mac OS X Tiger, I''ve been running into constant crashes when running my Rails tests. Here''s an example of the output. -- snip -- 1) Error: test_published_blog_can_be_ferreted(BlogTest): Ferret::FileNotFoundError: File Not Found Error occured at <except.c>:117 in xpop_context Error occured in fs_store.c:329 - fs_open_input

ferret success stories?
Hi all, there was a recent thread[1] on rails-deploy about Ferret in which a lot of people complained of problems using it in production. I''ve been using Ferret (with DRb) for many months now with no serious issues. I''m assuming the posters know what they''re doing so I''m guessing they''re just using Ferret in higher-scale environments than me. I

Is DRb server *really* required in production mode?
Greetings, I''m certainly :-) too thick, but after reading Ferret and AAF''s documentation I''m still wondering if I really need a DRb server in production. At the moment, the planned structure for production mode is a single server running the app with Apache and fastcgi; as far as I know, Ferret is multithread-safe, isn''t it? So, is a DRb server required to

Locking issues when adding to the Index
Hi, I keep getting locking errors when updating my index which puzzles me since only one process is supposed to be accessing the index at a time (at least in development mode). I''m using Ferret with Rails (NOT acts_as_ferret, though) and employed an observer to add a new document to the index when a new ActiveRecord is created. I''m not sure if this has any impact on the

Ferret file not found error on item delete
Hi ferreters: I''ve already posted this in rails, but someone there suggested this would be better. I''m getting a ferret error when I try to delete any item that has been previously indexed. I just installed ferret, so the indexes aren''t big or anything. What I''m trying to do is to just delete an item on a table that has been index. Here''s the error

Concurrency Problem in 0.11.3
Hi, I''m having some strange/random crashes with ferret when using different programs on the same index. I created a script to reproduce the errors: http://www.sig11.org/~seb/ferret_crash.rb Usage: In one terminal run: ruby ferret_crash.rb first In another terminal: ruby ferret_crash.rb Errors I usually get are but it is really random:

Is anyone successfully using acts_as_ferret with Ferret 0.11.4?
Hi all, I upgraded from Ferret 0.11.3 to Ferret 0.11.4 because I was getting intermittent segfaults that seemed to be due to a bug which was fixed (changeset 749). Unfortunately, 0.11.4 + acts_as_ferret seems to be a bad combination. I''m getting the some "fs_store/File Not Found Error occured at <except.c>:117" which was reported in the "Constant 0.11.4

Launching DRb server on reboot
I''m hoping for a little insight. We''re using ferret with DRb server and having a hard time getting it to come back up on reboot of the machine. In our RAILS_ROOT directory, we''ve got a script named start_ferret. Here''s the content: #!/bin/bash FERRET_USE_LOCAL_INDEX=1 script/runner -e production vendor/plugins/acts_as_ferret/script/ferret_start

Ferret progress update
Hi folks, Just thought I better let you all know that I''m still working on the next release of Ferret. I''ve been working the last 7 days doing nothing but Ferret development. The last iteration generated a diff of almost 5000 lines so there are some pretty major changes. Most people won''t notice these changes however as the API remains unchanged. But if you were having
