acts_as_ferret rebuilding issue with ferret 0.11.0
Hi, There is a problem with the way that acts_as_ferret verifies the index is valid. In ensure_index_exists it looks for a file named ''segments''. With the 0.11.0 release of ferret there is no file with this name. On my dummy application I have a ''segments.gen'' and ''segments_2y''. Changing the test to segments.gen fixes the problem that the

Is aaf multi_search broken?
Hi all, I want to use acts_as_ferret''s multi_search to search two model classes (Reviewable and Blog) at a time like @results = Reviewable.multi_search("jemen", [Blog]) and I''m always getting the error You have a nil object when you didn''t expect it! You might have expected an instance of Array. The error occurred while evaluating nil.map

Newbie problem on production server
Hi, I just installed ferret for the first time and integrated it with my app. On my dev machine it''s fine but on my production server I get this when I call find_by_contents(): Processing LinksController#results (for 24.185.105.59 at 2007-03-28 05:28:36) [POST] Session ID: 3f2dc7c17147c0e52178ba697a119833 Parameters: {"commit"=>"Search",

Reducing dependency on remote ferret process
Hi. We use FerretDrb for search. If the ferret process is down, our entire application comes down the moment we try to save a model which is indexed. Is there a way to decouple this relationship such that we can somehow resume normal operations despite ferret being down and not index the model? Thanks. Morten

undefined method `add''
We''ve been running into problems with ferret indexing lately. The problem is intermittent and some times it persists. Just got this after wiping the index and redeploying: NoMethodError (undefined method `add'' for Solution:Class): (druby://10.1.65.87:9009) /data/releases/20071111152414/vendor/rails/activerecord/lib/active_record/base.rb:1238:in `method_missing''

problems after gem update
Hi, I had ferret working wonderfully but i am regretting doing a gem update today. I had alot of trouble first installing it and was really happy to have it working. The upgrade was from 0.3.1 to 0.4.0. The problem is; in the rails console, >> @results = Book.find_by_contents("peter pan") => #<ActsAsFerret::SearchResults:0x487040c @total_hits=0, @results=[]> Its indexing

More sorting problems with untokenized index
I''m having problems sorting on untokenized fields. I have one field that sorts fine, but there are others that seem to sort on a different field. Here''s the index description: acts_as_ferret :remote=>true,:fields=>{:name=>{:boost=>2},:name_for_sort=>{:index => :untokenized}, :city=>{:boost=>2}, :city_for_sort=>{:index=>:untokenized},

ferret finds ''tests'' but not ''test''
Hello all, Quick question (possibly!) - I''ve got a few records indexed and doing a search for ''test'' reports in no hits even though I know the word ''tests'' exists in the indexed field. Doing a search for ''tests'' produces a result. I would have thought that ''test'' would match ''tests'' but no such

Constant 0.11.4 Errors
Folks, Since upgrading to ferret 0.11.4 on Mac OS X Tiger, I''ve been running into constant crashes when running my Rails tests. acts_as_ferret: reindexing it too slow
Hi, Recently, I was trying to play around with AAF and found that reindexing table is very slow. Then I started looking into Ferret performance and tried myself and found that it''s very fast. Then, I just used Ferret to index my table and it was also very fast. All good. Then why reindexing using AAF is slow. After sometime I found that in the AAF, it uses (:key => :id) in

Partial Class Definition if Ferret Server Not Running
When using a remote ferret server, if the ferret server is not running the acts_as_ferret class method will raise an exception. This causes the model class to only be partially defined, and therefore all use of that class in the rails application will explode until the rails process is restarted. This stems from the fact that ensure_index_exists is called on the server just before the

Ferret 0.11.0-rc1
Hey folks, Sorry for cross posting like this but this is an important announcement for all Ferret users. ** Description ** Firstly for those who don''t know, Ferret is a full-text search library which makes adding search to your application a breeze. It''s much faster than MySQL full-text search as well most other search libraries out there. It allows you to do Boolean (+ruby +

Many index files
I''m using acts_as_ferret and have indexed a model with acts_as_ferret :fields => [:name, :ascii_name, :alt_names], :single_index => true. Now in the index directory more than 95.000 files are generated! The number of tuples I''m indexing is approx. 86.000. I can''t remember this from earlier ferret/acts_as_ferret versions where I''ve indexed millions of

Ferret-talk Digest, Vol 25, Issue 3
Thanks Stuart. I thought I had read somewhere that rebuild_index built the index in a different location and then swapped it, but after looking at the code (in local_index.rb) this doesn''t appear to be the case. That might explain why the ferret server crashes sometimes when a search takes place during a reindex. I wouldn''t be doing exactly the same thing as this but

warnings met in introduce extent buffer cache for each i-node patch
Miao, I was trying out your patch on scalability testing for BTRFS on v3.3 kernel. http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-btrfs@vger.kernel.org/msg14930.html However, I ran into a lot of warnings (see the dmesg below). Wonder if you have a more up to date version of this patch? In addition, I have to do this modification to fix a warning in your original patch. diff --git a/fs/btrfs/inode.c
