eager loading parents and children (acts_as_tree)
I am struggling with how to do eager loading of an acts_as_tree model.
If the model Stuff acts_as_tree I know I can do this to get children as
well:
Stuff.find(:all, :include => :children)
But what if the model I am including is the one that acts_as_tree?
For example, say Picture belongs_to Category. Category acts_as_tree and
I want to get all pictures that are members of a category that

Enumerating over a Tree by Depth
I have a model using acts_as_tree which is working fine.
Being new to Ruby I''m don''t know what enumerator is best to use for
traversing a tree by depth. I can write one, but before I do I wanted
to know if there is there an enumerator for traversing trees available
that the community recommends?
Thank you,
Jose

acts_as_versioned and getting authors
Hey guys and gals,
I have the following object that has acts_as_versioned:
class Note < ActiveRecord::Base
acts_as_versioned
belongs_to :user
end
The schema for my notes table is as follows:
create_table :notes, :force => true do |t|
t.column :id, :integer
t.column :noteshare_id, :integer
t.column :user_id, :integer
t.column :title, :string

acts_as_paranoid and :include
Will the find from acts_as_paranoid filter down to an :include?
For instance
class parent
acts_as_paranoid
has_many: children
end
and
class child
acts_as_paranoid
belongs_to :parent
end
Then if you
Parent.find(:all, :include => children)
you will get all the children if they are deleted or not. I guess the find
that filters out the deleted_at is null does not filter down to the includes

Liquid with database?
Hello,
Just wondering if someone here as successfully ported Liquid to use with a database. I would like to try it out but not sure how Liquid integrates with current templates.
Thanks

Eager loading with acts_as_tree
So I have a model that acts_as_tree and I run a method on a collection
of all of these records. This method walks the tree and fetches the
parent/children, etc. This results in many, many duplicate SQL queries
to be executed. Is there a way to eagerly load all of these models?
Something along the lines of:
Model.find(:all, :include => [:children, :parent])
If I execute the above statement, I

STI, subclasses and callbacks
I have a STI class tree. I want to set some default values (calculated
values so I can''t set it in the database as defaults) on every created
instance regardless of what subclass is actually instantiated. So I
figured adding a after_create callback in the top class in the hierarchy
should do the trick. It seems it doesn''t get called :(
Code:
class SuperClass <

should a AR object be able to see backwards?
I have two models, Stop and Station, they relate one station to many
stops.
Stop has_one :station
Station belongs_to :stop
So I can do @station.stops, but I cant do @stop.station, is this right?
For example in the view I have:
<% for @stop in @stops %>
<tr>
<td><%= @stop.station.name %></td>
<td><%= @stop.time.hour.to_s + '':''

How to Affect Plugin Load Order
I''m using bundled_resource, login_engine, and a few other plugins. It
appears Rails considers plugins in alphabetic order. Turns out that
there is a particular order that will work and alphabetic ain''t it.
The login engine must be loaded first. Bundled resource then includes
''application_helper'' and the application helper includes LoginEngine. If

Retrieving :id without passing it
Ok, I have read most of Agile Web Dev... so I had a question about
beautifying URLs using routes.rb. I''m trying to architect a content
management system in which a user can create template pages. This way,
when a user creates a template page nested within, it displays it as
though it''s displaying a folder structure, much like a directory tree
(using acts_as_tree).

ActiveResource and RESful edit
Hi
I''d like to know how to have ActiveResource generate a URL for the
/teams/1/edit
type of resource.
I''ve got custom_methods.rb and have used
Team.find(1).get(:edit)
This generates
http://localhost:xxxx/teams/1/edit.xml
But all I get returned is a hash of the attributes (in this case of
team 1), rather than an object of team 1.

I made a quick patch, and I''d appreciate a quick run through your

Activerecord equivalent of the SQL "SUM()" function.
Search doesn''t seem to be working, so forgive me if I''m covering old
ground here, but I''m having a difficult time figuring out how to
implement a "SUM()" function using Active record. Obviously, I could
just create a query, but I''d rather make it part of my active record
object.
Basically I have an object called "Report <
