Rails + postgres case insensitive searches.
Hello all
I am wondering how rails handles case sensitivity in databases. If I
do a Person.find_all_by_name("tim") in mysql I would expect to get
tim, TIm, and Tim. Do I only get tim in postgres?
How do other people deal with this? Do you resort to find_by_sql for
all your postgres queries to get case insensitive results?

Unable to connect to postgres on Fedora Core 5
I have been struggling for hours trying to connect Rails to postgresql.
I have trawled google results - all to no avail! I have installed the
postgres gem but it doesn''t appear to install properly:
# gem install postgres
Attempting local installation of ''postgres''
Local gem file not found: postgres*.gem
Attempting remote installation of ''postgres''

Can''t use Gruff with Rails
Hello list,
I''m having a problem getting Gruff working with Rails on a Windows XP box.
I installed RMagick, then Gruff via the win32 gem, and it seemed to go
OK. From irb, I can do the following
- require ''rubygems'' ##### This returns ''false'', but seems to work OK
- require ''gruff'' ####### Ditto
- g = Gruff::Bar.new
etc., and I get

Regarding the 1.1.3 security release
* Apologies for starting a new thread; I just subscribed.
Has anyone been able to make this exploit happen if requests are being
proxied to Mongrel through Apache? I''ve been trying variations on the
double-encoding thing and can''t trigger the exploit through Apache.
Hitting Mongrel directly does expose the problem.
I''ll still upgrade my servers, of course, but I

Tired of Fedora, shopping for a new OS. Upgrade from F8 ? CentOS kernel versions ?
I've been a RH/Fedora guy since the RH8 days. When Fedora came along, I
moved to it, but its been a bit painful beta testing software all the
time. I ran Ubuntu for a while, but I found their package management
to be difficult... I do a lot of technical work, development and loading
and building special stuff. I much prefer RPMs over other methods of
package distribution.

/lib/tls will be no more in Fedora Core 4 Test 2 - updated instructions for Xen?
In Fedora Core 4 Test 2, the /lib/tls directory has gone. Most
applications are linked to /lib/libc.so.6:
# ldd /bin/true
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x00c72000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x001b6000)
and there is /lib/obsolete/linuxthreads/ for apps that need it.
What should we Xen users do now if we want to avoid triggering the code
that used to emulate unsupported stuff in

binary R for Fedora Core 2 e tcl
I update my linux version of FC1 for FC2.
FC2 uses tcl-8.4.5 and R-1.9.0 (rpm version for FC1, not install/not
run).
We have the rpm binary version at FC2?

I wouldn't go there unless you want to compare against, say Red Hat 4

How much latency are we talking about? It seems that this issue cannot be
easily pinpointed, but if it turns out to be related to the Speex Resampler
let me know and I will put it on my task list.

Installing R in Fedora Core 4
R is included in Fedora Extras. You can skip downloading Extras and updating the packages on the CD by using:
yum index | grep R
and installing the half dozen or so individual packages that will be listed. The number of packages may be mildly annoying but if you install this way you will be notified of R updates along with all of your other security and application updates through the Red Hat

A Request to Add module to CentOS Linux (3.10.0-1127.18.2.el7.x86_64) 7 (Core)
Hi Phil,
Not sure if you've had time to look at this? As mentioned middleware, like
docker-ce, is preventing us from moving to el8.
Thanks

GD2 to Make Charts
I''m just getting started with GD2 and have successfully made a few
dynamic PNGs. I need to make some fairly detailed line graphs on the
fly and I know that GD2 is capable of what I want but I strongly suspect
I''m reinventing the wheel badly. Are there gems or other projects that
help creating complex charts? I''ve used GDChart in the distant past
but I
