Acts_as_ferret and auto-flush
Hi, I''m using acts_as_ferret in with a mongrel and I'' m getting locking errors that after a while result in a corrupt database. I know about the problem with different processes writing to the index but I haven''t been able to get the DRB server working properly yet. I read on this list that another solution is to set :auto_flush to true but I''m not

rebuild_index fails on some models using aaf
I''ve been running the super latest AAF plugin with a mongrel cluster/ferret_server combo smoothly for a few days in production mode, indexing 4 models with no surprises. Only now when I try including some new Models to be indexed, the ferret_server fails to index with ferret server error undefined method `_'' for Summary:Class (it creates the dir on index/production, tho) and

acts_as_ferret : cannot use a customized Analyzer (as indicated in the AdvancedUsageNotes)
Hi all, I cannot make aaf (rev. 220) use my custom analyzer, despite following the indications @ http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/wiki/AdvancedUsage To pinpoint the problem, I created a model + a simple analyzer with 2 stop words : "fax" and "gsm". test 1 : model.rebuild_index + model.find_by_contents("fax") # fax is a stop word. => I get a

[AAF] concurrency in ferret-server
AFAICT, ferret_server should be able to handle multiple clients writing to it at once, since ferret itself is thread safe. However, it''s not clear whether running concurrent index rebuilds on different would be possible, since they run inside ferret_server. Anyone have experience with this? -ryan

MySQL has gone away
Hi, in a production environment we are running into "MySQL server has gone away" errors (see below) when we call rebuild_index in aaf. This happens sporadically. Any suggestions for what might be wrong or workarounds? I guess we try a reconnect before we call rebuild_index? Dynamic fields and AAF
Hi, I have a model which has properties, these are your standard name/value pairs, but also have attributes that affect how I want to store them in ferret. I was using 0.9.5 with 0.2 of aaf, which seemed fine, I just copied and pasted (yes, I know, ick) the to_doc method and added code to iterate though the properties that that model had, and add relavent fields to the document. It seems

Is anyone successfully using acts_as_ferret with Ferret 0.11.4?
Hi all, I upgraded from Ferret 0.11.3 to Ferret 0.11.4 because I was getting intermittent segfaults that seemed to be due to a bug which was fixed (changeset 749). Unfortunately, 0.11.4 + acts_as_ferret seems to be a bad combination. I''m getting the some "fs_store/File Not Found Error occured at <except.c>:117" which was reported in the "Constant 0.11.4

Advise on slowness in bootstrapping?
I am looking at trying to use ferret/aaf to supplement my querying against a medium and large table with lots of columns. Many index files
I''m using acts_as_ferret and have indexed a model with acts_as_ferret :fields => [:name, :ascii_name, :alt_names], :single_index => true. Now in the index directory more than 95.000 files are generated! The number of tuples I''m indexing is approx. 86.000. I can''t remember this from earlier ferret/acts_as_ferret versions where I''ve indexed millions of

Newbie question: 28000+ files for 25000+ records?
Hi Obviously my question is, is that normal? To have so many files? I was indexing 6 string fields from 25000+ model records (all of the same model). The index appears to be working. I guess I was expecting a few hundred files after optimzing, not more files that records indexed. Please understand I am brand spanking new to Lucene, Ferret, and AaF. I was using acts_as_ferret with :fields

deadlocks in Drb Server
Hi, we still have the problem in that the Ferret Drb server dies on us sometimes. Looking through ferret_server.out and we come accross this: deadlock 0xb7261cb0: sleep:F(1012) - /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/drb/drb.rb:566 deadlock 0xb71d8654: sleep:F(409) - /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/drb/drb.rb:566 deadlock 0xb723f3e0: sleep:F(7) - /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/drb/drb.rb:566 deadlock 0xb72607c0: sleep:F(11) -

How index works!
Hi, i''ve a project in wich i have 2 different rails apps accessing the same DB. The backoffice, as usual, changes data. The frontoffice has a search capabilities with acts_as_ferret (paginated) for search. Maybe this is a newbie question but, when i delete index and restart front app all the articles are indexed, but the new one''s (via backoffice) are not searchable. Does

issues with index for table with over 18 million records
I have a MySQL table with over 18 million records in it. We are indexing about 10 fields in this table with ferret. I am having problems with the initial building of the index. I created a rake task to run the "Model.rebuild_index" command in the background. That process ran fine for about 2.5 days before it just suddenly stopped. The log/ferret_index.log file says it got to about

AAF and DRb server
I''ve installed the ferret gem. I installed AAF as a plugin into my vendor/plugins directory of my project. In development environment my searches work just fine, without any problems. For production I configured the ferret_server.yml file with correct information about the machine my DRb server is running on. I start the ferret server with the following command: ruby script/runner

undefined method `add''
We''ve been running into problems with ferret indexing lately. The problem is intermittent and some times it persists. Just got this after wiping the index and redeploying: NoMethodError (undefined method `add'' for Solution:Class): (druby://10.1.65.87:9009) /data/releases/20071111152414/vendor/rails/activerecord/lib/active_record/base.rb:1238:in `method_missing''

Do delegates work properly in Drb mode?
Hi folks, I have several models that index well in Drb mode. However, I have one scenario where it works in normal mode, but not in Drb mode. model A field :one end model B belongs_to :a field :two delegate :one, :to => :a acts_as_ferret :fields => { :one => {}, :two => {} }, :remote => true end If I leave off the :remote parameter, it works. Or, if I don''t
