RoR - Some Questions Before Starting
Hello everyone, For some time I was studying Ruby on Rails, Active Record ideology and other thing related with RoR right now I still know a lot more about PHP than RoR. I am almost ready to start writing websites using RoR and get more experience. But I still have some questions before starting and I can''t start without answers. If you could simply answer some of them, would be great.

created_at, updated_at and MSSQL
Hello, I am running into a little issue. There is a considerable time difference between the time that the console is giving me and the time I am seeing in the created_at and updated_at column in the DB. The difference is about 5 hours. I don''t think the problem is in the DB, but I could be wrong. Am I missing something obvious? Any clues? -- You received this message because you are

Sessions do not update created_at column?
Hi All, I added a column to the sessions table called "created_at" in order to allow the created time to be recorded. However, different from other Models, the column does not update automatically. Therefore, what codes should I add to update the sessions."created_at" value? It is important for avoiding hacker keeping the sessions alive. Thanks much! Arthur -- Posted via

has_one/belongs_to -- accessing the subordinate
With a has_one/belongs_to relationship, what''s the best way to guarantee that the belongs_to object gets created and is accessible alongside the has_one object? I *think* the after_create callback is a good choice, but I discovered an oddity while trying it. F''rinstance, if every horse has a carriage: ============ ActiveRecord::Schema.define do create_table(:horses) {|t|

Can not create model instance via params on specific model but can on others....
Anyone have an idea on this? Got a weird situation where on a specific model I can not create an instance using params, yet it works fine on other models. The model which does not work is a stock model, there is no logic in it. Ruby 1.8.7/Rails 3.0.5. Does not work: (rdb:1) PaymentTransaction.create(:purchase_id => 3) #<PaymentTransaction id: 2, purchase_id: nil, action: nil, amount: nil,

Newbie stuff (.new method)
Hi- Ruby 1.8.2 Rails 1.1 so I''m trying to build my first rails app and I''m trying to understand how the helper methods work. For instance .new & .save . For instance, I''ve created a table of Objects, and generated a scaffold. I see that in the controller, there are calls to Object.new and Object.save. I''m assuming that these are methods inherited

Collection_Select not showing Selected option
Hi, I''m having some problem with getting collection_select to return the current value when editing a record. According to everything I''ve seen, there was an issue but it''s been fixed, but I can''t figure out why it isn''t returning the current value as a selected option. I''ve checked the table structures, and both the call_driver.product_line_id

Default value for model var
I know this has got to be a really dumb question, but here goes anyway. I''ve got a model with an associated table. One of the columns in the table is ''date_created'', which I want to be set to the date/time each row was added to the table. Seems to me that setting this in the initialize method for the model would be the right thing to do,... class MyThing <

Hello, I am trying to put my rails app on a host .So I presume the method to do this is to first do rake db_schema_dump and then copy it to the host and do rake db_schema_import. Validation errors in has_one/belongs_to relationships.
I have two objects, QuoteInput and Insured. QuoteInput has one Insured and Insured belongs to QuoteInput. I don''t understand what I''m seeing. I assign an Insured to a QuoteInput. The Insured object has invalid data. I call save! on the quote input. QuoteInput has no validations. I expect two things to happen - 1) an exception should be thrown, indicating that there was a
