Strange readyStates in prototype Ajax
Hi, I''ve never posted here before so please forgive me if I''m not observing proper decorum, yadda yadda yadda :-) I''ve ran into a very, very strange bug with Prototype I wanted to share and see if anyone else has seen this. In a few of my projects involving Ext JS, I''m using the TreePanel control, which uses AJAX to load child nodes asynchronously. Because I

ActiveRecord: Behavior not doumented
Hello everbody, doing a #find(:first,an_id) with Rails 1.1.0 I expected that find returns the record which id mathches the given parameter an_id or nil if it couldn''t be found. This behaviour is documented on api.rubyonrails.org. But the find returns the first available object and not nil if an_id is not in the db. Is the doc on rubyonrails.org out of sync? Greetings, -- Daniel

[Half-OT] PDA Clients and Rails
Hello! I''d like to gather some points about running a rails application on a PDA. As a condition I''d like to use Palm and Windows Mobile based PDA to target a huge user audience (this could be become difficult I know, only Windows Mobile for the start is although okay). I googled the last weeks and found out that there were only a few web browsers out there. E.g. Mozilla

AJAX Exception just started with Safari and Firefox on OS X, no problem on other machines
Hello all, I have been developing some ajax stuff all week. Just this morning the ajax calls quit working in Safari, and Firefox. I backed out to a last known working state and they still were not working, so I added some handlers to see if I could sniff out the problem. ... onException: function(transport){$ ("serversaid").innerHTML=transport.toJSONString();}, onFailure:

Routes from raw js (using XMLHttpRequest)
I am making an ajax call from js to call a method (assocboxchange) in my controller (AssociatesController), using XMLHttpRequest. I know the XMLHttpRequest works fine because I use it in other places with success. My problem is my URL I am using for this request doesn;t access the method in my controller which I (think) I am specifying. I am having it post to /channels/assocboxchange/" with

prototype ajax + xml response
Hi, I am looking for a solution to use ajax.request object. Return response text will be in xml format and I like to know how to parse that xml information, so that I can put those info into the "span" or "div" tags of my html page. Is there any easy way to parse that xml info using prototype library? Thanks, kevin. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Ajax.Request / XmlHttpRequest details
Does anyone know a good reference for the various statuses that XmlHttpRequest''s readyState property can have? I mean, I know what the states are, but I''m unclear on the circumstances under which each occurs... In a simple test I wrote, I''m seeing the loaded, interactive and complete states (i.e. my Ajax.Request instance calls its onLoaded, onInteractive and

request.xhr? is false after redirecting an AJAX request?
Dear everybody I''m trying to develop a web application that makes use of AJAX, but also works if a user has no (or doesn''t want to use) JS. For normal requests, this is pretty easy. Almost every action ends with render blahblah, :layout => !request.xhr? This way, I can use the same action to render a full page (with layout) as well as rendering an AJAX request (only the

ActiveRBAC?
How''s the experience with using ActiveRBAC? For my "next 4 days with rails" :P I''d like to consider adding Role-based access to the To-Do List application in the original "four days w/ rails" tutorial. Just wondering if ActiveRBAC would be a good place to start? Thanks! For those who are wondering: https://activerbac.turingstudio.com/trac Cheers Mohit.

Re: Incremental Updates
As an alternative to polling the client, as Ryan describes, you could consider piggy-backing the status updates on the back of other ajax responses. Which way you go depends entirely on the nature of your app, in particular: 1. how frequently it generates ajax traffic anyway 2. how long the server-side process is going to take If the server-side process takes, say, 20 seconds, polling is a
