Mongrel and Sandbox
Z-Man,
DHH recently said:

Does that mean what I think it means - that one or

Apache mod_proxy to mongrel
Hi Guys,
I know this is slightly off topic, but it''d be great to get some
feedback from anyone who''s using mod_proxy on Apache 2.2 to redircet
to a rails app on mongrel.
Everything has been running fine generally but a few days back we
started getting a gap in the performance between the Apache port and
the mongrel port. accessing through port 80 was averaging ten times
longer

Bug in Configurator.change_privilege?
Hello.
I have discovered that mongrel does not correctly take on all the
groups of the requested user/group combination. It seems that while
the specified user and group is correctly activated, all the other
groups that are associated with this user are not enabled and the
group permissions remain the same as the caller (i.e. root).
This problem (and solution) is discussed in the Ruby Forum:

Fails to restart mongrel cluster after Capistrano rollback (PIDs not deleted)
Hi,
I am deploying a Rails website using Capistrano to a VPS running the
site through Apache and Mongrel.
''cap deploy'' works fine, and mongrels are restarted. When I execute
''cap deploy:rollback'', however, my script fails to restart the
mongrels giving this error:
!!! PID file tmp/pids/mongrel.5000.pid already exists. Mongrel could
be running already.

Getting it right - Mongrel Upgrade - Cap 2.0
I just got the fire to clean up how our app is deployed and upgrading mongrel.
Currently, our app is being deployed in a user''s home directory. This
has caused some problems regards to user/group permissions...
We decided we were going to move everything to /var/www/app which led
me to the whole general layout of our deployment and some questions.

[HELP] Mongrel Needs a Patch Maven
Hey folks,
I''m falling behind in my Mongrel duties and seriously need to recruit an enterprising individual to take on the patch queue and help push out a new release with some minor fixes. The goal would be to just get patches that are currently languishing, pull them together, put them in the source, write some tests to try them, and then one slight design change.
If this works out

Capistrano mongrel recipes and /usr/local/bin
Hello,
I''m trying to deploy my application with Capistrano using Mongrel
recipes. Since I''ve installed Ruby from source code, mongrel scripts
are found in /usr/local/bin. But the recipes can''t find
mongrel_rails : "bash: mongrel_rails: command not found". The path of
the user account used to deploy is OK. For sure, I can redefine

performance observation on redhat
Hi,
I made an interesting observation using webservers (not just mongrel) under red hat enterprise
linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 5). Maybe this is helpful or somebody with deeper networking
expertise can comment on this.
Once client said that 1-2% of the response of our server were unacceptably slow (really huge 3s-21s).
So I did more ab and httperf tests and notice that very few

Broken Pipe Error with Mysql
Hello.
Been getting the dreaded MySQL broken pipe error after a few hours of
the app being started. Obviously restarting the server fixes
everything. I gather from a few posts about running rails on fast-cgi
that this happens when mysql timesout before the application. Just
wondering what the timeout for mongrel is and which mysql variable it
has to be lower than.
Thanks for any help

memory issues -- mongrel part of the problem?
Hi. I''m a fairly new mongrel user and have a scenario that I wanted
to run by you all, see if anyone''s synapses connect -- mine def.
aren''t!
I''m running a fairly simple rails app through a mongrel cluster (2
mongrels). This site is consistently sloooow -- memory on the server
is regularly paging (and shouldn''t be). ssh-ing in and running top

virt-sandbox-service
Is there any documentation/tutorial that explains how to use
virt-sandbox-service?
After looking at some writeups about virt-sandbox-service, this looks
like a good tool for something I need to do. But, following the
"examples" I cannot get anything to work correctly.
With a simple xfce install with httpd, lighttpd, and libvirt-sandbox
installed, I tried:

byte-range requests
Hello everyone,
I did some initial tests and it seems that mongrel does not support
byte-range requests. Is this correct?
The reason I ask is that the iPhone requires byte-range requests to
work in order to stream audio or video from a web server.
Thanks in advance,

rlimit sandbox on cygwin
Hi all.
I have an old windows VM with an oldish cygwin that I use for the
regression tests. Investigating one of the test failures, I see that
it's for UsePrivilegeSeparation=sandbox, and it seems to be because
setrlimit(RLIMIT_FSIZE, ...) is not supported.
IMO, this isn't a big loss, since the most useful thing in the rlimit
"sandbox" is the descriptor limits. Can anyone see

sandbox for OS X
Hi,
The systrace and rlimit sandboxes have been committed and will be in
snapshots dated 20110623 and later. This diff adds support for
pre-auth privsep sandboxing using the OS X sandbox_init(3) service.
It's a bit disappointing that the OS X developers chose such as
namespace-polluting header and function names "sandbox.h",
"sandbox_init()", etc. It already forced me to

libvirt-sandbox on Ubuntu with SELinux
I'm attempting to build/use libvirt-sandbox on Ubuntu 12.xx. Although
I'm still working through dependency issues (including the need for
libvirt >= 1.0.2 which is not packaged for ubuntu 12.xx) to build the
sandbox code, I have a forward looking question.
It appears libvirt-bin for Ubuntu likes apparmor as does most Ubuntu
based packages using a LSM impl. However, as I understand
