Resetting ferret index before test runs
I need to reset the ferret index between test runs. It seems like there are a few ways to reset the ferret index. * Deleting the index directory -- is this really bad form? * calling rebuild_index * (any others?) What would y''all recommend? (Sorry, I''m from Texas) Preferably, I''d like a way to reset the index that I can integrate into a selenium test. -David

Large index performance = 8x decrease
hi, i''m indexing a really large db table (~4.2 million rows). i''ve noticed that after ~2M records, index performance decreases by almost an order of magnitude. full dataset graph here: http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o244/spokeo/indexer-data.jpg here''s a couple best-fit lines that represent the data points: 0-2M : y = 78.65655x + 144237.5 2.5M+ : y = 10.79832x +

IO Error when querying on a single field
I''m getting an exception when I query a large index (4GB, ~700K docs) on a particular field. Is anyone successfully using acts_as_ferret with Ferret 0.11.4?
Hi all, I upgraded from Ferret 0.11.3 to Ferret 0.11.4 because I was getting intermittent segfaults that seemed to be due to a bug which was fixed (changeset 749). Unfortunately, 0.11.4 + acts_as_ferret seems to be a bad combination. I''m getting the some "fs_store/File Not Found Error occured at <except.c>:117" which was reported in the "Constant 0.11.4

Rails 2.1.2, complex find involving complex include, bug?
So I''m upgrading my app from Rails 1.2.6 to Rails 2.1.2. I have a complex find statement that worked in 1.2.6 and isn''t working in 2.1.2. I think maybe this is a bug, although maybe there''s something else I could be doing to work-around it? My find statement involves: * Models in a module for namespace purposes * a join clause with raw SQL * an includes clause with

Scalable alternative to #find_all
Is there any scalable alternative to iterating all the records of a certain model? #find_all seems to load everything into memory. With 500.000 records it will be a swap storm. Pedro.

Problems with mock assigned to a constant
Hi all, Initially I thought this was a bug in the built-in mocking framework(and it still may be), but I better hash it out on the mailing list before I file/reopen the ticket: http://rspec.lighthouseapp.com/projects/5645/tickets/478-mocks-on-constants#ticket-478-6 I thought my example illustrated my problem, but obviously I was passing the wrong arguments to the mock. I revised my example to

The Jetty that is included in Solr has its idle timeout set to 50 seconds. But in practice, I have not seen this timeout trigger ... and if the OP is seeing a 60 second timeout, then the 50

Calculating AIC for the whole model in VAR
Hello! I am using package "VAR". I've fitted my model: mymodel<-VAR(mydata,myp,type="const") I can extract the Log Liklihood for THE WHOLE MODEL: logLik(mymodel) How could I calculate (other than manually) the corresponding Akaike Information Criterion (AIC)? I tried AIC - but it does not take mymodel: AIC(mymodel) # numeric(0) Thank you! -- Dimitri Liakhovitski

ActiveRecord searching in batch (with find_by_sql)
I have an issue where I am getting a large number of records from the database and I cant afford to keep it in the memory due to performance issues. Therefore using the following would be ideal, User.find_each(:batch_size => 5000, :start => 2000) do |user| NewsLetter.weekly_deliver(user) end however, I would like to use find_by_sql since my query is user defined. Question is, is it

dynamically adding static (class) methods to a class
Hello again, I guess this is more of a Ruby question, but here goes anyways... I want to intercept all calls to non existent class methods and then call an existing class method with the non existent name. In code... class MyModel < ActiveRecord::Base def MyModel.method_missing(symbol, *args) MyModel.func(symbol.id2name) end def MyModel.func(func_called) puts "You

Referring to an object name from within a function
Can anyone show me how to refer to an object name that is passed to a function, from within the function? For example: MyModel <- 1 test <- function(x) { if(x == 1) {cat("x is a valid object.\n")} } test(x) What I would like this to do is pass MyModel to function test, and if it passes a test, be able to print "MyModel is a valid object." Thanks. -- View this
