Questions before starting an interesting Xen project
Hello, Me and four other students at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden are in the startup phase for an interesting project utilizing Xen. We have been asked to modernise and improve the performance of a router simulation package called Crab[1]. Currently Crab runs a few instances of UML and inside each guest OS Quagga[2] is run. Quagga is a routing daemon with interface similar

Both Dom0 and DomU have the same ip address...
How do I assign a public ip address for Dom0 and then a separate one for DomU? I wanna do this so I can get some practice using ssh from dom0 to DomU. I wanted to interact between the two to get some good networking experience using all sorts of protocols between the two. Anyhow, I have eth0 on dom0 as dhcp. So when peth0 comes up during the network-bridge script, which then turns into eth0 on

Channel bonding on Guest VM being slow
Hi guys, Greetings for the new year The problem faced by me is simple, I cannot get channel bonding to work perfectly with Xen. I am trying to boost the bandwidth of guest domains by using link aggregation (a.k.a channel bonding). I have tried round robin (mode 0) and high availability (mode 1). I know that mode 1 will not give me bandwidth boost. But strangely once i try mode 1 for the guest, I

CentOS 4 and CentOS 5 DomU on CentOS 5 Dom0: problems with hand-built OS and LVM
I''ve been running any number of CentOS 4 based Xen hosts and guests using CentOS 4.4, and the Xen RPM''s from www.xensource.com, and various hand-built OS images using jailtime and my own own OS images. I like the jailtime approach: One partition for / on the DomU, /dev/sda1, built as a local file or local LVM partition One partiton for swap on the DomU, /dev/sda2,

Network Issues/Questions
Hello, I''m new to Xen (and this mailing-list) and facing some problems with the network. I''m stuck and don''t know how to continue. And Google isn''t very helpful either... My setup: - Ubuntu 7.10 for dom0 and Debian 4.0 for all domU - 4 physical NIC (DHCP from my ISP, internal LAN, DMZ & WLAN) - 1 Dom as firewall/router - 1 domU with internal services

domU networking problem
Hello, I have a xen server (xen-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_32 hvm-3.0-x86_32p / kernel 2.6.24-28-xen). I have some domUs, one of them is a fli4l router, the others are eisfair domUs (fileserver, webserver and mailserver). All of the domUs are connected via vif network interface with a bridge in dom0. There is a problem invoking following command in every domU: openssl s_client -connect

Frustrating experience - Xen networking.
Hello, I am having a frustrating time trying to get bridge networking working. I''ve gone over the Wiki page on the topic, a few of the howtoforge pages and everything that I am doing is failing utterly. What I want to achieve is to have Dom0 be a stub running two DomUs. One DomU being a router/firewall and the other being the rest of what is on the current machine.

Networking: two dynamic IPs
Hello. My host is CentOS 5.3 and Xen is v3.2 (from RPMs provided from Gitco). One of my DomUs is Trixbox that has been having some intermittent issues that I believe are due to it being behind my firewall (which is a Linksys router). My ISP gives me two dynamic IPs, so I would like to put my Trixbox DomU on this second dynamic IP. The Trixbox DomU is an HVM DomU. What is the best way to do

checksum offloading causing problems?
Can anyone tell me under what circumstances checksum offloading might cause problems? I have the following configuration: 1. Remote router (OpenWRT) with PC''s on the LAN and a GRE tunnel to the head office 2. Central office with a server running Xen 3.1.2. Dom0 is doing PPPoE and is terminating the GRE tunnels 3. Main corporate application running on a Linux DomU, accessed via ssh. The

Lots of udp (multicast) packet loss in domU
Hello, After a few of us have spent a week google''ing around for answers, I feel compelled to ask this question: how do I stop packet loss between my dom0 and domU? We are currently running a xen-3.3.0 (and have tried with xen-3.2.1) on a Gentoo system with 2.6.18 kernel for both domU and dom0. We have also tried a 2.6.25 kernel for dom0 with exactly the same results. The goal is to

DomUs don''t shutdown with cpu-pinning configured
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, since pinning the cpu cores to Dom0 and the DomUs the shutdown of the VMs doesn''t work anymore. When shutting down or rebooting a DomU the DomU just freezes after the shutdown process but won''t reboot or stop the DomU. The shutdown itself seems to be complete though. We can reproduce this problem on 4 different servers.

Xen/Snort sensor VM network config
I am attempting to create an IDS appliance proof-of-concept using Xen to virtualize the management server and sensors. To keep things simple, I am just trying to get one domU sensor and the domU management VM working together for now, but plan on using multiple domU sensors eventually. The VMs are all configured and ready to go, but the problem I am running into is an inability to see all the

EXT3-FS error and VM going Read-Only..
Hi All, I''m currently running Xen stable (3.0.2-2) with Linux kernel 2.6.16.29. I have a strange problem with *one* of my domU''s, it seems like as soon as I do some heavy disk I/O, the filesystem goes read-only with this on the console: -- end_request: I/O error, dev hda1, sector 8822 Aborting journal on device hda1. ext3_abort called. EXT3-fs error (device hda1):

2.6.25.* domU i386 baremetal/xen dual boot kernels (Fedora 8)
I''ve been having some fun recently with trying to get a stock upstream kernel working, compiled with support for both baremetal and PV booting. This is with a view to getting a similar configuration into the Xensource automated test setup. Since I''ve just got such a kernel to boot a Fedora 8 PV guest I thought I''d share what I did, as there are a couple of tricks to

using dom0 as a NAT router question.
Hi all, This is a dom0 NAT question. /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp (network-script my-network-bridge) (vif-script vif-bridge) there are two physical network cards on the box and my-network-bridge creates two bridges. domU''s use these bridges. I have some windows pc''s connected to one of the nics and I would like to use dom0 route their traffic and do SNAT. (firewall/router setup)

How to use windbg to debug XEN windows XP domainU under Suse 10sp2?
I found this article on http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenWindowsGplPv, but windbg display com8 reconnect forever. AND RxBytes always 0. Thank you Using the windows debugger under Xen Set up Dom0 1. Change/add the serial line to your Windows DomU config to say serial=''pty'' 2. Add a line to /etc/services that says ''windbg_domU 4440/tcp''.
