Re: Rails SQL Server adapter
Hey Ryan, I asked this question awhile back, but any support planned for table returning functions, or stored procedures? I''m envisioning basically a mutable model class where you have 1 or more instance variables defined (with default values) that are used in the SQL queries as input parameters. When you instantiate the class you can specifically define these parameters or use the

R client connection OLAP cube (SQL Analysis Services / PivotTable Service)
I have been doing data analysis/modeling in R, connecting to SQL databases with RODBC (winXP client with R1.9.0 and win2k SQL server 2000). I am now trying to leverage some of the OLAP features to keep the data intensive tasks on the DB server side and only keep the analytical tasks within R (optimize use of memory). Is there any package that would allow to connect to OLAP cubes (as a client

mutable Query objects
There's a bit of an API glitch with Query objects at present. This code shows it off: Xapian::Database("/path/to/db"); Xapian::Enquire enquire(db); // make a simple query Xapian::Query myquery(Xapian::Query::OP_NEAR, phrase, phrase + 2); enquire.set_query(myquery); // Now change the query - this shouldn't affect the query enquire // will run, but it does.

mutable objects
Hi, I need "mutable" objects that I can safely modify in my C code. All call interfaces, e.g. .C, .Call, etc., require you to not modify the "in" args. The description of the OOP package in R-news from Sep 2001 alludes to a possiblity of such objects, but the package itself is no longer on Omegahat and I am not sure I need the full machinery. Thanks, Vadim P.S. I wonder

File Auditing with rails - File I/O issue
Hey Folks, I''ve written a script to generate a list of all files on a machine, then zip the results. ?I''m going to stick a web front end on it, and use it to audit some file servers. The problem is that the ZIP compression/decompression isn''t working, but its not what you might think. ?The script completes, but seems to not actually write anything. Here is a short

R vs SPSS
Dear all, in last weeks you discussed about R vs SAS. I want to ask your opinion about a comparison between R and SPSS. I don't know this software, but some weeks ago I went to a presentation of this product. I found it really user-friendly with GUI (even if I'd prefer command line) and very usefull and simple to use in creation and managing tables, OLAP tecniques, pivot table. What you

win32-file, overlapped added
Hi all, I''ve got overlapped and offset support in both nread and nwrite. The only thing left before I want to release this (as 0.4.0) is to get NO_BUFFERING to work. Unfortunately, I can''t get it to work. Park, I looked at that site you sent (and borrowed some code from it), but I don''t see anything special happening for NO_BUFFERING. I thought it required

ORC JIT Weekly #1
Hi, Lang As a starter using LLVM JIT to improve OLAP execution engine performance, I'm very glad to hear that. I can't find some useful document help me get start to use the new ORC JIT API quickly. Only can find some examples how to use it, but don't know the internal from low level, and very blurred to design a clearly JIT toolset. Hope more tutorials add in and help ORC JIT more

Efficiently convert this SQL statement to ActiveRecord loop
Hey Folks, My app compares the last known set of files located on a series of servers against a current snapshot for auditing purposes. Its working really well, and I''ll open source it when its complete! Here''s my current issue (and forgive me, I started life as a DBA and I constantly want to revert to connection.execute.) The tables to store my objects are

Markaby Installation Issues
Ok, So I followed the directions.. I did a ''gem install markaby'' (which sounds like its enough to get me going for rails), but I wasn''t sure, so I tried to install the plugin as well. ADODB and SQLServer
Hey Guys, I''m absolutely stumped by this error. I haven''t seen it during any of my development, or working in production until just this week. Randomly, rails app becomes totally inaccessible until I restart the webserver. I tossed in some custom error messages stuff, so I could get the client to send me mail when it broke, and this is the error I''m getting:
