Splitting vector into individual elements
Is there a means to split a vector into its individual
elements without going the brute-force route for arguments
to a predefined function call?
offred.rgb <- c(1, 0, 0) * 0.60;
## Brute force style
offred.col <- rgb(offred.rgb[1],
offred.rgb[2],
offred.rgb[3],
names = "offred")
## Desired style

panel.first problem when plotting with formula
I wrote a little function called bgfun that adds gridlines and a background,
but it's not working with I plot using the formula.
I have some theories on what's happening, but even if my theory is right, I
don't know how to fix it.
Someone have a straightforward silver bullet?
Thank you,
Gene

This is a resend on the patch from late last week as I haven''t seen it in

Open Source in an Economic Downturn: Asterisk stories needed
I'm giving a talk at SCALE 2009 (Southern CAlifornia Linux Expo) on
Sunday in Los Angeles, and the topic of my talk is "Open Source in an
Economic Downturn". I've got lots of talking points for this talk,
but it would be interesting to hear some short anecdotes about how you
in the Asterisk community are thriving, or at least surviving, by
virtue of the benefits of

pokey
Oi,
Bad timing of course, but the following is NOT an april's fools joke:
I am working on a GTK+ interface to tinc, which should become an admin
tool for the VPN that your tinc is a part of. Its name is pokey, from
"pointy & clicky" -- and it is, of course, a reference to Pokey the
Penguin.
Right now it doesn't do much beside gathering and showing information
to you. I

Deploying Sites : Capistrano
I have three distinct configurations I need to maintain:
- local dev
- staging server (for client approval and test)
- production server
Right now I''m relying on rsync and sweat to get things right.
Obviously Capistrano looks like the silver bullet, but it seems to rely
on Subversion over http as a dependency. Is this correct?
I''m running svn on my local machine and backing

Yup, it must cost them a pretty penny to maintain all those proprietary
operating systems (especially when you include their mainframe ones). I
suspect that Linux will eventually replace i and AIX -- eventually. But

Serious NAT problems: can't call between lines on sipura
I have a problem that is almost certainly nat-related, but I can't figure
out what's happening.
Since moving the Sipura behind a NAT server (Linksys), I am no longer able
to call between the two lines on the same Sipura. When I dial one
extension from the other, it rings, but immediately after I pick up the
ringing phone, the call is uncerimoniously dumped. I can tell the call

Fwd: Wiki Contribution - YUM Tips and Tricks
Hi CentOS-Docs Team!
I got distracted and didn't re-read the "contribute to the wiki"
instructions before sending off a message to this list (I'm subscribed to
Docs now for sure!). So my initial message hit the bit bucket 'cause I
wasn't subscribed (d'oh!).

Streaming issue with IOS and Safari
We had only MP3 for a long time, and all iOS users could listen. I
don't think iOS likes OGG.
We also advertise the VLC app in case someone has an issue with the web
player.

integration of tzinfo with icalendar
My interest in icalendar is more on the ical generation side instead of
the ical parsing side. As such, I did a bit of work on a tzinfo mixin
that will generate the timezone rules based on the tzinfo gem. This
lets you do the following:
estart = DateTime.new(2008, 12, 29, 8, 0, 0)
eend = DateTime.new(2008, 12, 29, 11, 0, 0)
tstring = "America/Chicago"
