Thinking of using aaf- looking for advice
Hi- I''m technical lead at Lingr (http://www.lingr.com), a chatroom-based social networking site. We''ve currently got several million user utterances stored in MySQL, and we''re looking to build a local search functionality. I''ve played around with aaf and I really like it, but I have some questions. 1. Is anyone out there using aaf to index a corpus of this

When does ferret / AAF decide to reindex?
I am experience situations where accessing the index results in a complete re-indexing of the model. I have not been able to detect a pattern. Under what circumstances does Ferret (or AAF) decide that it needs to rebuild the index? I''ll be happy to look at the code relevant to this if someone could direct me to it. Thanks, John

[AAF] concurrency in ferret-server
AFAICT, ferret_server should be able to handle multiple clients writing to it at once, since ferret itself is thread safe. However, it''s not clear whether running concurrent index rebuilds on different would be possible, since they run inside ferret_server. Anyone have experience with this? -ryan

Ferret 0.10.11 & AAF: sorting Time fields doesn''t work
Ferret 0.10.11 & AAF: the time seems to be stored in a format that can''t be sorted, the order doesn''t make any sense. Workaround: use to_i on the Time object before putting it into the index. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Newcomer perceived problems with AAF/Ferret
I blogged about some of the problems with aaf in production (http://www.jroller.com/BrightCandle) yesterday but inspired by the poitive response I thought I would share the perceived problems and discuss some of the potential solutions to help newcomers and make aaf work as if by magic just like Rails does. All of these problems boil down to one simple problem, running acts as ferret in a

Mongrel 0.3.13.4 Pre-Release -- Docs and more Docs
Hi Everyone, Just want to get out another ping on the Mongrel pre-release saga. Ferret/AAF Stability?
Hello. I''m the author of DataMapper (http://datamapper.org), and am trying to choose what Full-Text-Indexing engine/plugin I want to include by default. I was hoping you guys could help. :-) Sphinx comes highly recommended, but without live index updates, it just doesn''t seem practical for most of my work. I''m most experienced with Solr, but the whole HTTP::Request and

What I Want For Christmas
Calling All Mongrel Minions! I wanna have some fun and would like this as a Christmas present. The site http://www.workingwithrails.com/ has this lame popularity system that''s kind of irking some of the main Ruby contributors. I think it''s kind of funny, but would like to demonstrate what an army of motivated people can do to these kinds of popularity contests. So, as a

[OT] I Finally Got an Atom Feed

Making my site multi-lingual
Hi, I''m wondering how I should go about making my website multi-lingual. Basically, there will be different content for the different languages, and that''s not really a problem... all I need to do is give each content entry in the database a language_id. But the problem is with the non-content text, eg, "In order to access this area, you must be logged in",

[SEC] Mongrel Temporary Fix For cgi.rb 99% CPU DoS Attack
This is important so please read this message very carefully. There is a DoS for Ruby''s cgi.rb that is easily exploitable. The attack involves sending a malformed multipart MIME body in an HTTP request. The full explanation of the attack as well as how to fix it RIGHT NOW is given below. Most of the work was done by Jeremy Kemper and Jamis Buck. They did all the work of building the

Experiment in Online Mongrel Chat Support

AAF index updated when record is deleted?
Got it all running nicely now for a few days but noticed something funny. I have a table were lots of records get added, deleted every day. I can see the added records being added by AAF to the index but I notices some "ghost" results when doing searches. The search returns record ID-s that do not exist anymore because they were deleted. Does AAF also remove entries from the index when
