R and gdb
Hi,
I have some problem with setting breakpoints with gdb in order to debug
some shared library for R.
Classical use of gdb work well
gcc -g -o footest.o footest.c
gdb footest.o
b 2
run
...
but as i tried to use it with R :
$ R -d gdb

Uninitialized constant in integration test
I am seeing weird issues when trying to create integration tests. Here
is a very simple example of something that is failing. The
assert_redirected_to, and other methods, fail with this or similar
exceptions.
I have tried requiring both ''application'' and ''listings_controller'', but
neither solves this problem, although the exception changes.
Anybody know

Something crazy with rake test
Rake plugin tests are not run anymore (rake 0.8.4 or 0.8.3) !
rails foo
cd foo
script/generate plugin bar
cd vendor/plugins/bar
rake test
No test is run, no output of the usual number of assertions, number of
tests...
rake output is

Helper methods starting with should_ get picked up as examples?
Hi!
I recently updated my rspec and rspec_on_rails plugins to the tip of
the trunk and ran into an issue with helper methods with names
starting with should_ in my describe blocks. Fictive example to show
what I''m talking about:
describe Order do
it "Can be paid for" do
...
should_have_paid(user)
end
def should_have_paid(user)
end
end

Set the return value to "same as block"
It would be good to be able to set the return value to be the same as
the return value of the block. I am trying to test opening a file in a
block and reading from it. It would be nice to use code like this:
object.stubs(:open).with("/path/to/file", "r").yields(
stub(:read => "The file contents")
).returns(from_block)
Which would make open() take the return

problem redefining module method
I''m having a problem redefining a method in one of my modules. Lets
say I have this module in /lib:
module Hello
def say_hello
"hello"
end
end
And one of my ActiveRecord models mixes it in like:
class Item < ActiveRecord::Base
include Hello
end
This works fine, I can call @item.say_hello just fine. But when I try
to redefine the method:
class Item <

Automatically mocking ActiveRecord methods
Seems like I do a fair amount of mocking ActiveRecord''s automatically
generated routines when I''m testing controllers. Things like:
@portalspace = PortalSpace.new :public_readable => true,
:public_writable => true, :name => ''public''
@portalspace.stubs(:id).returns(203)
PortalSpace.stubs(:find).with(203).returns(@portalspace)

RJS-Template and link_to_remote
Hi, I am quite new to rails and can''t use any rjs-templates.
The problem is, that he can''t use/find the methods in that template
e.g. ''page'' or ''replace_html''. I get an error message on these
methods.
Here''s what I got so far in my example:
Controller:

class AjaxTestController < ApplicationController

LinkingTo and C++
Hello,
I've been trying to make LinkingTo work when the package linked to has
c++ code.
I've put dumb packages to illustrate this emails here ;
http://addictedtor.free.fr/misc/linkingto
Package A defines this C++ class:
class A {
public:
A() ;
~A() ;
SEXP hello() ;
} ;
Package B has this function :
SEXP say_hello(){
A a ;
return a.hello() ;
}
headers of package A are copied

RJS where to put helper method?
Hi,
If I want to have helper method for my rjs, where''s the best place to put
it?

Can Ajax updates more than one <div>?
Hi,
I wish to know, is it possible that Ajax can update
more than one zone "<div>"???? like :
<%= link_to_remote("Title", :update => ''mydiv0'', :url
=> {:action=>:say_hello} )%>
<div id="mydiv0"> to be changed one</div>

Is there a way to do incremental search?
Say the user first enters "ruby" for search and gets 1000 results. Then
he can search "rails" just in the 1000 results just returned.
The common scenario is some kind of advanced search. User can
incrementally add criteria and the program will narrow the results step
by step.
I know that at least I can use all the criteria as a whole to do the
searching, but this is a waste

Mocking system/`
This drives me insane on a regular basis. How does one mock
system(''blah'') or `blah` ?
Adding expectations on Kernel doesn''t do it. Adding expectations on
Object just makes me sad:
Object.any_instance.expects(:system).with(''ls'')
# => #<Mock:0x12b584e>.system(''ls'') - expected calls: 0, actual calls: 1
And this really

aliasing, require_dependency and require
I''d really appreciate it if someone [with a decent understanding of the
rails Dependencies mechanism] could help me explain the behaviour seen
in this pastie.
http://pastie.caboo.se/46630
The desired behaviour is simply aliasing a method in
ApplicationController from a plugin while retaining automatic reloading
in dev mode.
The pastie is basically divided into 4 parts:

BackgrounDRb version 1.0RC1 available now
Hi Folks,
BackgrounDRb is a Ruby job server and scheduler. Its main intent is to be
used with Ruby on Rails applications for offloading long-running tasks.
Since a Rails application blocks while serving a request it is best to
move long-running tasks off into a background process that is divorced
from http request/response cycle.
This new release of BackgrounDRb is also modular and can be used

Memory leaks in my site
Hi all,
My environment is ruby-1.8.4, rails 1.2.2, mongrel 1.0.1, linux 2.6. Now, i
have a problem on memory leaks with mongrel. My site is running 5 mongrel
processes on a 2G RAM machine, the memory of each process grows from about
20M to about 250M, but it never recover to the initial 20M, so i had to
restart the mongrel processes once per day. The load is about 1M hits per
day.
