Capistrano - disable_web and enable_web with lighty?
I was using lighty+fastcgi before, and it was working pretty well, but I decided to move to Apache+mongrel because I really really like Mongrel. Well now I found out about lighty+pound+mongrel [1] and I think I''m going to give that a shot. I definitely prefer lighty to Apache - it''s pretty ridiculous how much fewer resources it uses. Anyway the only thing I''m going to

Best Approach to a ''Down for Maintenance'' Page?
What is the best way to implement a ''Down for Maintenance'' page across your Rails app? Ideally I would like to have a button in my admin section that toggles the display of a ''currently under maintenance'' page to every public request to the app (possibly with some dynamic content like estimated down-time) except for: - - requests from a specified IP

Mongrel/Apache and static content
I''m looking for an easy way to have mongrel only serve dynamic railscontent, while letting Apache serve non-Rails content. Unfortunately,it seems that you have to segregate the static content in its ownfolder. That was also the case with the SCGI runner. I used thetrick outlined athttp://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.ruby.rails/23347 to managethis. I was curious if a similar

Rails on Mongrel
Hi, After following advice from you good folks, I gave mongrel a try in a cluster design based on the example on the Mongrel website - and it worked right out of the box which is great - and it''s very fast :) I have got a bit stuck though. I have two MS Word files in /public/files/. I can pull back these files no problem but it isn''t sending a mimetype. I think I have two

Run fastcgi in Apache 1.3, or proxy through lighttpd?
I''m working with a guy who has Apache 1.3 installed on his server, and it''s not an option to simply use lighttpd for a Rails application I''m helping him with. I''ve seen that Apache 2 apparently is crappy when it comes to fastcgi, but 1.3 isn''t so bad. I can then either just run my app straight in Apache, or I could proxy it through to lighttpd. Which

Random 502 Bad Gateway
I have moved my project to a dedicated server and I am getting a very annoying behaviour. I am able to view the site just fine when using the ip. The name is properly resolved on my computer, however I am getting "Bad Gateway The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server." This is simply random. The site works for several minutes, then i get this message for some

Rails on lighttpd through proxy
Hi All, We have a PHP site running on apache 1.3 and Im trying to graft typo onto it at /blog/. Ive got the running using the symlink method but apache/fastcgi are clunky to say the least so I want to move typo over to lighttpd. Ive got this all working and Im now trying to get a proxy working through from apache. Im using this: RewriteRule ^/blog/?(.*)$ http://blog.myorg.net:8080/$1 [P]

Apache, Mongrel, Authentication
A question about mongrel, apache and authentication. I''ve got a Rails site with I think a very typical setup: a mongrel cluster behind an Apache proxy. So Apache''s handling the static stuff and it hands off dynamic content to mongrel. I want to put the site temporarily behind Apache''s basic authentication. What I get when I do this is that is a password prompt which

Tunneling in capistrano twice
Hi there, The default recipe expects you to be able to access your web server directly from your local machine. On our web server, for security purposes, it is only possible to ssh to it through one particular ip (which is also a remote machine.) The capistrano source is so compact and tidy it looks very hackable. But rather than messing around I thought I''d ask first if anyone else

Error : No protocol handler was valid for the URL...
Hi everybody, I just suscribe to the list because I have a problem using mongrel and mongrel_cluster... I setup a server (debian unstable wich provide apache 2.2.3 as a pakage) but I have an error when I try to access my application : ERROR 403 : Forbidden, You don''t have permission to access / on this server. When I check apache''s logs I found that : [warn] proxy: No

RoR and Growing Pains
I have persuaded my company to move towards an RoR shop... from a PHP 5 (with in-house-built framework)... so the jump is not terribly bad. I''m REALLY excited actually! My problem: I am overwhelmed with all the setup Loops I have to jump through to get RoR setup. I tried it on my current Apache 1.34 and decided it''d be easier to make the Lighty (1.4.11) jump. So I did. I get

Redirect without port number?
On my host I run my lighttpd instance bound to a specific port and my hostname is mapped to this port (I''m not exactly sure how this is accomplished, but it is lighttpd also listening on port 80 which handles this for me I believe). A redirect from rails includes my local port number in the request, so that it shows up in the address bar. I prefer people not to see this - I

Links go to ''localhost''
I am using Apache2.2 + Mongrel on my machine. Now I am accessing it over LAN. When I enter http://mymachinename/myapp it opens fine but when I click on any link in my rails app, it replaces mymachinename with localhost (http://localhost/myapp/controller/action) and thus I am unable to access it from remote location.

How to Auto Add forward slash "/" when accessing a link/url through ProxyPass
Hi Friends, I am using Centos 5.2 and using ProxyPass to access applications running on other servers. Everything is working fine except for one of the applications I need to auto add forward slash when any user tries to access that application. For ex ProxyPass /testdiary http://testdiary.example.com/ ProxyPassReverse /testdiary http://testdiary.example.com/ If somebody

Can''t seem to get rewrite rules to work with Apache
Hi, I''m struggling to get an Apache rewrite rule to work. I have a simple rule that for a request to "a.html" will be sent to "b.html". However the requests for "a.html" are always sent to my Rails apps. Here is my Apache configuration: <VirtualHost 216.154.219.19:80> <Directory /u/apps/simplelog_2.0.2/public/> Options FollowSymLinks

lighttpd proxy w/ apache2
I''ve tried a bunch of things trying to get ruby/apache2 and php working together. I looked over my earlier post and followed the instructions on ezra''s website to install lighttpd on debian. I''ve gotten really far but I think there is one bit missing: 1. I got apache2 and php working together 2. I got lighttpd working on port 3000 and my rails app launches ok

Problems with ProxyPass to a local ip (using SSL)
Hi all, I am trying to setup an apache virtualhost under CentOS 6.7 that needs to redirects requests from port 444 to port 5100 in its local ip. But I am doing some mistakes because every time I'm receiving a loop error. My actual httpd's config for this virtualhost is: NameVirtualHost 192.168.1.5:444 <VirtualHost 192.168.1.5:444> ServerName myweb01.local.domain ErrorLog

Expert feedback needed
Hello list, Some time ago I was looking for apache (as non balanced proxy) + mongrel configurations. Almost everybody seemed to use similar approaches (one of these could be found @ mongrel.rubygorge.org docs) with mod_rewrite. I don''t use proxy_balancer because I don''t need it at the moment (my site has pretty low traffic). This is apache configuration that I''m using
