Dom 0 CPU utilization measurement
Hi all, If I want to measure the Dom0 CPU utilization, which is a more accurate way among the following 3 options? 1. Running profiling program like "sar" in domain 0. 2. Running Xentop in domain 0 3. Running Xenmon.py in domain 0 By running these 3 different program, the results have certain differences. So I am confused here which to use.Thank you in advance. Lei

XenServer 5.6 FP1 - CPU utilization using sar
Hi all, Using XenServer with a RHEL6 beta VM, I have sar installed on the hypervisor and VM. If I do a ''md5sum < /dev/urandom'' to spike CPU usage on the VM, I see the indication on the XenCenter performance graph on CPU 0. It does increase quickly. Neither sar output gives any sort of indication that the CPU is being loaded. This VM is pinned to both processor 0 and 1

RE: correction... cannot create 2GB (not 2MB) domU
On Unisys 16X 16GB ES7000/one with SLES10 Beta11 updated to xen changeset 9998, attempted to create a 2GB domU and get Error: The privileged domain did not balloon. xm list shows that before the attempt to create the domain, dom0 has 15910 MB memory. After the error, dom0 has dropped down to 13993 MB. Bugzilla number is 650 > Sue Krysan > Linux Systems Group > Unisys Corporation >

Python error: must supply either home or prefix/exec-prefix -- not both
hello, in trying to build xen-unstable (up to changeset 9238) under x86_64 sles10 beta 7, gcc-4.1.0-3, python-2.4.2-9, i''m getting the following error during the build: building ''xs'' extension creating build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.4/xen/lowlevel/xs gcc -pthread -fno-strict-aliasing -DNDEBUG -O2 -fmessage-length=0 -Wall -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -g -O2 -f omit-frame-pointer

High load average, low CPU utilization
I have a dual Xeon 5130 (four total CPUs) server running CentOS 5.7. Approximately every 17 hours, the load on this server slowly creeps up until it hits 20, then slowly goes back down. The most recent example started around 2:00am this morning. Outside of these weird times, the load never exceeds 2.0 (and in fact spends the overwhelming majority of its time at 1.0). So this morning, a few

CPU monitoring & CPU cycles
Hi. I am a student at University of Zurich and I''m doing a homework about Cloud Computing regarding accounting and billing. Because the "big" players use Xen Hypervisor I installed a Xen (3.3.0) on an Ubuntu 8.04 to test some things and get more familiar with Xen regarding accounting. I have two questions: 1. CPU monitoring +++++++++++++++++ I have discovered something

VM start time slows with large number of VMs
Hello, We''re running Xen Unstable changeset 15468 with SLES10 on a Unisys ES7000/one 56x cpu and 160GB memory. Xen is built with NR_DYNIRQS=1024 and max_phys_cpus=64, and booted with dom0_mem=1024 and xenheap_megabytes=64. We have 320 para-virtualized SLES10 VMs on external storage. Our script starts a VM, waits for the start to complete, then starts the next: "for i in *.cfg;

RAID rebuild time and disk utilization....
So I'm in the process of building and testing a raid setup and it appeared to take along time to build I came across some settings for setting the min amount of time and that helped but it appears that one of the disks is struggling (100 utilization) vs the other one...I was wondering if anyone else has seen this and if so, is their a solution for it...my 2 disks are 1 Samsung F3 1tb /dev/sdb

qemu-dm cpu utilization
Using an 8-way ES7000 with 32GB of ram, I''m running xen at changset 11217 with dom0_mem=3092M as a kernel parameter on a x86_64 hyperviser. It appears that qemu is adding too much overhead to virtual machines to display graphics. If I boot a sles9sp3 domVT in runlevel 5 with vga=0x314 for a graphicalboot, and immediately use vncviewer simply to watch the virtual machine as it boots,

XenMon Patch
Attached is the second release of XenMon, which is a unique performance monitoring tool for Xen. Instead of using hypervisor calls to get domain information, we use the xentrace facility to provide fine-grained monitoring of various metrics (see README below). We have written up a small case study that demonstrates the usefulness of the tool and the metrics that it reports. This will be

Bug#447795: xen-utils-3.0.3-1: [CVE-2007-3919] xenmon.py / xenbaked insecure file accesss
Package: xen-utils-3.0.3-1 Version: 3.0.3-0-3 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole Xen versions 3.x, and 3.1 contain a tool for processing Xen trace buffer information. This tool uses the static file /tmp/xenq-shm insecurely allowing a local user to truncate any local file when xenbaked or xenmon.py are invoked by root. Sample session: # setup. skx

strange sar statistics: total CPU 90% in userspace, but CPU 0 and 1 only 1%
Hi Centos Users The server (ProLiant DL380 G5, Centos 4.3) was not responsible anymore (SSH), fans rotated at full power and the console was blank. After restart it seems to be fine. Now I am analyzing sar statistics (in system logs nothing special, unusual). The hardware monitoring with HP tools didn't work. # sar -P ALL Linux 2.6.9-34.ELsmp (cent061) 01/15/2008 12:00:01 AM

[patch] xenmon.py: add next/previous bindings to curses mode
Cycling around many CPUs in XenMon''s curses mode can get cumbersome. This trivial patch adds bindings to move to the previous CPU. The next/previous binding seems more natural to me than the earlier cycle binding, but we can keep them all for now. # HG changeset patch # Node ID 146b5c76086c07fad61bea7ccf60f2f4fd66abbd # Parent 7dd31dbf16e75f0f70e0f9c44b2bb2b5fc6eecf1 Add next/previous

High Guest CPU Utilization when using libgfapi
Hi, I am currently testing running Openstack instance on Cinder volume with libgfapi. This instance is the Windows instance and i found that when running random 4k write workload, the CPU utilization is very high, 90% CPU utilization with about 86% in privileged time. I also tested the workload with volume from NFS and the CPU utilization is only around 5%. For gluster fuse, the CPU utilization

nparams in virNodeGetCPUStats and CPU utilization
Hi, I am trying to get the CPU utilization of a node and I am using virNodeGetCPUStats(...) Here is my code snippet. The error checking is omitted for brevity. /* get the number of params */ retval = virNodeGetCPUStats (conn, VIR_NODE_CPU_STATS_ALL_CPUS,\ NULL, &nparams, 0); printf ("nparams: %d\n", nparams); /* allocate space for the params */ params =

cpu utilization across speex versions
Hi all, We are using Speex codec for our P2P Audio conferencing application. Thus, a node may serve multiple neighbors, requiring multiple encode/decode at a time. I have observed that Speex consumes alot of CPU power; one machine is Pentium 3 800MHz, 256MB RAM with XP. When this PC serves the other two faster PC's, CPU utilization soars to maximum. I have tried various versions of speex;

CPU Utilization Weirdness
Did some more experimenting last night. When I changed icecast and ices back to 'daemon mode' they lasted for about 5 songs, before tanking. I then tried combinations of icecast as a daemon and ices not, and vice versa - same results. Even recompiled without any mods to icecast. The only thing that seems to work is starting the processes and piping them to null. The only disadvantage to
