Instiki @ O''Reilly ETech 2005
Hi all, Sorry if I should be posting this elsewhere--I couldn''t find an Instiki specific mailing list, but the Instiki site is down. I wanted to mention that my friend Tim Lauer and I are going to be doing a short "high order bit" talk at the O''Reilly Emerging Technologies conference, describing a particular use of Instiki which we came up with:

Emerging Tech: Who''s going?
Ryan McMinn as well as myself from Unspace Interactive are going to ETech next week. We know fellow Torontonian David Crow will be there with bells on. And clearly DHH is coming to do his workshop. Who else is coming, and is there any interest in trying to do a Rails BOF during the main conference? Obviously a lot of folks are going to do the workshop, but most people don''t arrive

Article: Creating a Live Datagrid
I just finished posting an article on creating a lightweight but very functional web grid that does a slick job of live updating whatever content you put in. Much like Rails itself, I pulled the code from an active project effort, in the hopes that others would find it useful. http://unspace.ca/discover/datagrid Or, for the impatient, give the demo a shot: http://unspace.ca/datagrid Feedback

VLAN's
Hi, I have a firewall running IPTABLES. I have tried to route sip traffic from my WAN(eth3) interface to a VLAN(eth2.2) interface, however the data will not route to the VLAN it keeps routing to the default interface(eth2). Does anyone have an idea as to what I need to look for? Regards Jennifer Botten ETECH Tel: +2787 150 5285 Fax: 086 638 2412 Mobile: +27 82

New Article: Endless Pageless - No More Next Page
I just published a new article on how and why (and when!) to do away with paginated search results, in favour of a more natural, endlessly scrolling page. http://unspace.ca/discover/pageless/ I provide code and an example of how to implement this in Rails and Prototype. Opinions and suggestions welcomed! Pete Unspace Interactive Inc. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You

Hacking Issue
Hi, I am having an issue with someone accessing our server via a SIP/VOIP connection. I have changed my iptables rules to drop all UDP traffic from and too this IP address, but this traffic seems to still run through my server. These are the iptables rules that I current have on the server. -A INPUT -i eth0 -s 209.61.231.42 -p udp -j DROP -A INPUT -i eth0 -d 209.61.231.42 -p udp -j DROP

[Article] Great Browser Expectations
Hey everyone, I came back from Canada on Rails and was so inspired that I wrote an article on the plane. http://unspace.ca/discover/expectations/ It''s my attempt to distill what I have learned so far, working on AJAX applications in Rails that people will hopefully want to use. Feedback is appreciated! Pete

I have a linux server with some jobs at cron, that job reads some files from windows stations, i read these files via samba. My problem is that all works perfectly until the windows station reboots (it reboots every nite but no way to know exact time), at morning when linux should restart the process the mounted drive is dead, i try to umount/mount the drive from cron every morning but nothing, I

Xen Project Documentation Day for Nov & Dec
Greetings, Normally, we hold the Xen Project Documentation Day on the fourth Monday of the month. However, for the next two months, there are some issues: - Next Monday is the beginning of Thanksgiving week in the US. This is historically a very hard time to accomplish anything (other than shop for the holidays which occur in December), so if we hold Documentation Day on Monday, it is likely

6 channel encoding
It appears that either Vorbis was never intended to support more than 2 channels or the algorithm doesn't work for low sound levels. In trying to encode Beauty and the Beast and Starwars II using 6 channels, the Vorbis encoder produced noise in all the scenes were audio dropped below -25 dB. Unfortunately since most dialog is below -25 dB, the Vorbis encodings are unintelligable for most

PostgreSQL problems
Folks, I know this must be a configuration problem. Just changed servers last nite -- an interim server running 1.6.1.6. Copied all of /etc/asterisk to the new server and fired it up. Now I'm getting: [Oct 14 12:28:10] ERROR[8471]: cdr_pgsql.c:309 pgsql_log: Failed to insert call detail record into database! reshape::rename package unable to install !?!
Greetings all, I have been working with RStudio and R only for a little while. I came across a package called 'reshape' that helped me 'rename' columns. Unfortunately, my computer got hosed (too much playing with linux too late at nite) and I had to re-install everything, BUT when I tried to reinstall 'reshape' or 'reshape2' I COULDN't. Is there a way to get

Incoming calls from IAXTEL over NAT
Hey all, I was playing around with IAXTEL last nite and have outgoing calls working a treat. I'm sure I woke a few people up in the US with my annoying test calls. :) Anywayz, incoming calls are a different matter. I have a NAT firewall my * box is sitting behind and the server 'appears' to have registered correctly with IAXTEL. Thing is, when I try and call my 1700 number

SIP<->*/ISDN<->PSTN calls almost impossible because of echo
Hi, I'm running an asterisk server using passive ISDN cards to connect to the PSTN. SIP to SIP calls on the local network are ok, but unfortunately the echo on outgoing calls (from a software SIP phone to PSTN) is horrible: you'll hear the echo coming back after about 3 seconds. I've been searching the mailing list archives for 'echo' and found out that (a little bit of?) echo

decoder with special features needed: pointers, ideas?
Hi everybody, I want to use a ogg-equipped notebook for playing music for (folk and ballroom) dancing, and a player for this should have two features I' like to find or implement: (1) I want the middle part of a song repeat "endlessly", with two track marks that I want to hide somewhere in a vorbis comment. (One day I want to control that with a gui or SIGUSR1 or something else,
