Xen performance and Dbench
I saw the presentation "Virtualization of Linux Servers" at
OLS last month and it had some nice comparisons of Xen
performance vs a lot of other virtualization/container
technologies:
http://ols.fedoraproject.org/OLS/Reprints-2008/camargos-reprint.pdf
As always with benchmarks, there are questions to ask and
points to quibble, but overall Xen looks quite good...
except on Dbench. Has

change hvm defaults for timer_mode and hpet?
Due to recent changes in timer handling (specifically building
hpet emulation on top of Xen system time and ensuring it is
monotonic), I wonder if it now makes sense to:
1) change hvm default for hpet to 1 (was 0)
2) change hvm timer_mode default from 0 to 2
I encouraged adding the hvm hpet parameter and defaulting
it to 0 because the virtual hpet was not reliable and many
guests/versions

Use always the same DomID
Hi friends, I''m developing an architecture using xenbus/xenstore that use
DomID to read/write informations over a shared memory with dom0. But always
that i restart my DomUs the DomID is increased. I''d like to use always the
same DomID for the VMs. Any option?
Thanks

[PATCH 0 of 5 V3] Remus/Libxl: Network buffering support
This patch series adds support for network buffering in the Remus
codebase in libxl.
Changes in V3:
[1/5] Fix redundant checks in configure scripts
(based on Ian Campbell''s suggestions)
[2/5] Introduce locking in the script, during IFB setup.
Add xenstore paths used by netbuf scripts
to xenstore-paths.markdown

GPLPV, clock drift and PVUSB in Windows XP HVM
1. Shouldn''t the GPLPV drivers take care of the (bad) clock drift I''m experiencing in my Windows XP HVM? Or is there some other way around this problem that I haven''t been able to find on Google? How can I tell if the GPLPV drivers are active? I''ve added the /gplpv switch to the boot.ini file and the virtual NIC is definitely using the GPLPV version but other

[PATCH 0 of 7 v5] Introduce the tapback daemon (most of blkback in user-space)
This patch series introduces the tapback daemon, the user space daemon that
acts as a device''s back-end, essentially most of blkback in user space. The
daemon is responsible for coordinating the front-end and tapdisk. It creates
tapdisk process as needed, instructs them to connect to/disconnect from the
shared ring, and manages the state of the back-end.
The shared ring between the

[PATCH] xen-tmem-list-parse: fix ugly parse output
Hmmm... It appears I never posted the corrected version of this patch
so it never made it upstream. See:
http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2011-11/msg00587.html
http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2011-11/msg02145.html
It would be good if this very minor fix was also applied to 4.2
(and, if possible, 4.1).
Thanks,
Dan

XAPI source code
Hi All
I have downloaded the opensource xapi source code. I am not sure what the functins of the follow modules:

3 xiu (I am puzzled by the name "xiu")
4 stats
5 rpc-light
6 rss
7 xb (I think the xapi needs not to talk to xenbus directly)

/proc/xen/xenbus supports watch?
Hi,
Anybody (Christian?) could please tell me if we can get the support
for registering watch with /proc/xen/xenbus? (..OK, I know that we
will change it this /proc stuff to a device soon)
So far we can only do read/write/rm. I really miss the xen watch feature.
Many thanks,
Hieu

[PATCH v2 1/2] xenconsoled: use grant references instead of map_foreign_range
Grant references for the xenstore and xenconsole shared pages exist, but
currently only xenstore uses these references. Change the xenconsole
daemon to prefer using the grant reference over map_foreign_range when
mapping the shared console ring.
This allows xenconsoled to be run in a domain other than dom0 if set up
correctly - for libxl, the xenstore path /tool/xenconsoled/domid
specifies the

[PATCH] Fix QEMU HVM hotplug race in QEMU traditional (Xen 4.1, Xen 4.2, and Xen 4.3) (v1).
Hey Ian and Stefano,
Please see this thread: http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2013-05/msg01053.html
for the debug patches and some of the discussion.
These three patches fix an race that has been in QEMU traditional for a long time.
The guts of the bug is that if you have a guest with these options:
vcpus=1
maxvcpus=32
and do ''xl vcpu-set <guest> 32'' the

[PATCH 0 of 2] Support for VM generation ID save/restore and migrate
This patch series adds support for preservation of the VM generation ID
buffer address in xenstore across save/restore and migrate, and also
code to increment the value in all cases except for migration.
The vast majority of the code is in second patch. The first patch
merely changes the xenstore key name used by hvmloader to store the
buffer address.

xenstore documentation
hi,
it would be extremely useful for me if someone with knowledge of how
the current tools and drivers use Xenstore would be kind enough to
update the Wiki with current information. I have been spending quite a
lot of time trying to get my domU connected to a block device in dom0
using a home-brewed domain creation tool, and I am still at the

BSOD w/ gplpv drivers and Windows 2008 R2 64-bit
Hey,
I''ve been trying to get the gplpv drivers working with Windows 2008 R2
64-bit on both a stock CentOS 5.8 install and CentOS 5.8 w/ Xen 4.1.2
from the gitco repos.
I''m getting a BSOD shortly after boot up and it can be seen at
http://techmonkeys.org/xen/ -- along with the qemu log.
Has anyone had success with these drivers and Windows 2008 R2 64-bit? If
so, what am I

[PATCH v5 1/2] libxl: Introduce functions to add and remove USB devices to an HVM guest
This patch exposes a generic interface which can be expanded in the
future to implement USB for PVUSB, qemu, and stubdoms. It can also be
extended to include other types of USB other than host USB (for example,
tablets, mice, or keyboards).
For each device removed or added, one of two protocols is available:
* PVUSB
* qemu (DEVICEMODEL)
The caller can additionally specify "AUTO", in
