[ActsAsFerret] Index Directory Disappears and Not Re-created
Hi, This is a recurring issue for me - the index directory on my production server and everything below it occasionally disappears and isn''t reconstructed. I tried manually creating the entire index path manually before starting the server, but it still happened while the server is running. I don''t know what''s causing the index to disappear and I''m also not

best practices for handling uploaded images and capistrano
Quick question: I am going to use the file_column plugin to manage uploading thumbnails. By default the images are stored in the public/ dir of the rails project. The problem I see is that when capistrano redeploys a new build and symlinks it in none of the images will be in the new public/ dir... Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks, Zack -------------- next part -------------- An

Saving images in shared directory w/ Capistrano/SVN?
Hi all, I''m using Capistrano and SVN to version control and deploy, but I''m not sure what to do about my images directory. I use file_column and RMagick to save images to the disk under a model called "Image", and they''re saved in public/image/... etc. Each time I deploy a new version, my image folder doesn''t exist anymore. I don''t want

Configuring Capistrano For Local To Remote Deployment
How does one configure capistrano for moving local file to your remote server? In the docs it says that one cannot use file:// so what''s the configuration step for resolving this issue? Symlinks in Capistrano?
I have a few projects with large directories (say, user-uploaded files) that make using Capistrano a bit awkward. However, I suspect that I may have reached the "write a custom task" level. (I suppose I''m just thinking out loud, here...) It seems as though I''d want this directories symlinked in /shared... Maybe there''s a way to extend the

Fails to restart mongrel cluster after Capistrano rollback (PIDs not deleted)
Hi, I am deploying a Rails website using Capistrano to a VPS running the site through Apache and Mongrel. ''cap deploy'' works fine, and mongrels are restarted. When I execute ''cap deploy:rollback'', however, my script fails to restart the mongrels giving this error: !!! PID file tmp/pids/mongrel.5000.pid already exists. Mongrel could be running already.

Capistrano - how do I set up the database config?
My app is set up without database.yml in version control. I created a shared_path/config dir, and put database.yml in it. After I update the code, I want to link the app''s database.yml file to the shared config. So I added this task desc ''Copy the database config'' task :after_update_code, :roles => :app do run "ln -s #{shared_path}/config/database.yml

Ferret 0.11.2-rc3 released
Hey guys, I''ve just removed the -fno-stack-protector flag from the release so those who had trouble because of this should now be able to install 0.11.2-rc3. If you have any problems with this release, please let me ASAP. Cheers, Dave -- Dave Balmain http://www.davebalmain.com/

Ferret 0.11.0-rc1
Hey folks, Sorry for cross posting like this but this is an important announcement for all Ferret users. ** Description ** Firstly for those who don''t know, Ferret is a full-text search library which makes adding search to your application a breeze. It''s much faster than MySQL full-text search as well most other search libraries out there. It allows you to do Boolean (+ruby +

Capistrano adding shared files
I''m finding the :before_task and :after_task facilities in Capistrano very useful. For example, I needed to add a shared directory to my system. All I had to do was add a few lines to deploy.rb: desc "Add shared usr_img directory to shared" task :after_setup do run <<-CMD mkdir -p -m 775 #{shared_path}/user_img CMD end desc "Link shared usr_img directory

Ferret progress update
Hi folks, Just thought I better let you all know that I''m still working on the next release of Ferret. I''ve been working the last 7 days doing nothing but Ferret development. The last iteration generated a diff of almost 5000 lines so there are some pretty major changes. Most people won''t notice these changes however as the API remains unchanged. But if you were having

Capistrano/SVN: Deploying different database.yml for live?
Greetings, Today I''ve been working out how to begin using Capistrano and so far I''m impressed. Even in my situation, learning Rails and deploying to a single server, it''s incredibly helpful. I do have one small question though: In using Subversion I''ve used the "ignore" feature to ignore my local database.yml file, because my local database and

Ferret seg-faulting during search
Hi, I''m using ferret and running into troubles with it seg faulting during searches. The index I''m searching is static and is only updated in an offline way once every couple weeks. The segfault isn''t deterministically reproducible, but if I hammer ferret hard enough I can reliably get it to crash. The problem seems to have something to do with how memory is shared

[UNDER CONSTRUCTION] YAC? (Yet Another Capistrano)
My needs are far more modest than Capistrano''s capabilities. Also, when working in a shared hosting environment, the Capistrano model can be outside the capabilities allowed by the Web host. I simply need to push selected directories (on a changed-file basis) out to a server. I have about 80% of the code written to do this (I''m considering YAC for the name, with a nod to

Ferret::StateError while using acts_as_ferret
I''m fairly new to ferret / aaf and finding it much easier to use than HyperEstraier (which I migrated from). However, I am getting a few errors and I need to figure out if they''re problems with my usage of ferret or a bug I should report. I''m currently running Ferret 0.10.11 with acts_as_ferret (latest via svn external) and 3 times today I''ve seen the

Questions about table association while using acts_as_ferret
Hi all, I''m quite new to ferret and acts_as_ferret and what to see if I can implement the following requirement using them. Suppose I have two model classes: Article and Comment. It''s obvious that one article may have many comments, so this is a one-many relationship. If I want to add full text search to these models, I''m supposed to use acts_as_ferret in both of the

Memory concerns ferret 11.4.
Hi list, We just built our own ferret drb server (mostly because we don''t do an indexing from within rails). The ferret drb server only handles index inserts and some deletes. Usually we make batch inserts were we retrieve a couple of hundred or thousands of documents from a database and then inserts them inte ferret one by one. We call flush every 50th file. We are very impressed

Hi all I bumped into the following issue: when trying to restart with capistrano, it does restart, but with the app from the old deployment directory. desc "Restart the app server." task :restart, :roles => :app do run "mongrel_rails restart -c #{current_release}" end Has anybody a better solution for that ? -- Roberto Saccon -------------- next part -------------- An

Ferret-talk Digest, Vol 25, Issue 3
Thanks Stuart. I thought I had read somewhere that rebuild_index built the index in a different location and then swapped it, but after looking at the code (in local_index.rb) this doesn''t appear to be the case. That might explain why the ferret server crashes sometimes when a search takes place during a reindex. I wouldn''t be doing exactly the same thing as this but
