ROR dev on Different Ruby versions
Hi,
First I would like to ask if someone could give me the direct link to
the mailing list this forum mirrors. This is so I can do searches
directly and not bother folks with repeat questions.
Now my question:
I recently installed a ROR app built on Ruby 1.8.2 and moved it to ROR
on Ruby 1.8.4. I got a few errors and had to regenerate my app in the
later and copy the App files and a few

One layout for entire App ?
Hi,
Being true to DRY, I know in Rails it is possible to define a single
layout associated to a controller and all associated views, lists etc..
by the layout name taking on the name of the controller but is it
possible of a layout to be shared between many controllers ?
TIA,
Tuka
PS: I accidentally posted this in the Test forum.. so I moved it here to
get a pertinent reply

Installing ROR/Webrick app on Windows 2000/2003 Server
Hi all,
I am currently not able to use search since it is disabled, so I will
ask my question and hope I am not repeating a past question.
I am looking into developing an app to run in Windows 2000/2003 Server
environment. To install ROR on a server to run an app on Webrick do I
need any extra steps beyond those needed to install on my development
laptop (XP prof) ?
The idea is to run the

win95-98 problems
I've installed samba in my linux machine (Mandrake 7.2).
With WinNT and Win2000 there is no problems, but in Win95 and Win98 It's impossible to read files, and open exixting folders, the error is: "the file (folder) don't exist".
If I try to create one, It'isn't shown, there is an error, but if I go in machine with win2000 the folder(file) is there.
How can I resolve

Hello everyone,
I''ve decided to take the step into creating a mini-forum for my

people to discuss things etc...
I am following a tutorial in the book: APRESS - Practical Rails Social

Part of the Forum requirements is to add a moderator role to allow

Attach libvirt guest to an existing openvswitch port
Good day gentlemen.
I am building a study project and trying to configure openvswitch vlans
outside libvirt by means of openvswitch itself.
Somehow with interface types 'bridge' and 'network', libvirt does attach
domain to the existing port specified in <target dev=''/>, wiping the
exixting settings and always deletes this port upon domain shutdown,
thus making me

change OS on one node
Hi to all,
I would like to replace the operating system on one gluster brick. Is it
possible to hold the data on the brick? If yes, how can I connect the
data partition back to the new brick.
I will remove the brick from the volume and remove the peer from the
pool first. Then setup the new OS then I would like to configure the new
brick and bind the exixting partion to the new brick.

Defining the expected behavior of DatabaseStatements.execute()
It would be very helpful if the core team could define and document
the expected behavior of DatabaseStatements.execute(). The
implementations appear to vary. Most adapters will return some sort of
native result set, SQL Server returns nil and expects a block, DB2 and
Sybase return the affected row count.
So please, will someone in core explain the expected behavior and can
the execute()

HABTM: Find sorted by number of associations
Hi,
I''ve been googling and searching the forums for some time
but can''t seem to find exactly what I''m looking for.
Suppose User HABTM Products (for example a favorites list). I would like to
construct a single query for finding Products ordered by the number of
Users that have flagged them as favorites.
Although I can construct the query using SQL a with a

Pagination of Complex Queries
I''ve created a class method in my model called find_filtered. The intent is
that I take various params that the user has submitted, and let the model
build the query and return the AR collection, which is exactly what happens.
However, now I''d like to paginate the recordset. Everything I''ve been able
to find about pagination presumes that you have no pre-existing AR

Running general purpose queries
Hi,
I''m considering migrating my site from php to RoR. I''ve installed RoR gone
through the onlamp tutorials and made the recipie/todo list sample sites and
tinkered with a few of my own. I understand the examples that use models
and scaffolding to map tables, but I''m having a little trouble understanding
how to handle general purpose queries. A few people have

Issue with Arel::SelectManager and insert Method
Hello,
Arel::SelectManager (arel 2.0.9) uses following statement to insert a
new record:
@engine.connection.insert im.to_sql, ''AREL'', primary_key_name,
primary_key_value
But in DatabaseStatements insert ist defined as:
insert(sql, name = nil, pk = nil, id_value = nil, sequence_name = nil)
Actually, Arel::SelectManager does not use the sequence name. This
leads to issues

How to execute an SQL statement in rails?
Hello,
This is probably a silly question but looking at
"api.rubyonrails.org", I can''t seem to figure out which method I
should be using ... I want to execute an sql statement, like "truncate
table BLAH" from within one of my rails app ... What''s the "right" way
to do this?
Thanks,

In a belongs_to association, is there a way to tell if the associated object
was newly created?
Hopefully this will explain my question:

testing with transactions
Hello!
I experienced problems with testing transactions which are supposed to be
rolled back, but are not, because of transactional fixtures eliminating the
inner transaction. Can this be worked around somehow without turning off
transactional fixtures? Maybe savepoints can help this?
Does anyone have any experience with savepoints to achieve nested transaction
functionality? Both Postgres

Basic pagination question
Hi there
I have a class method defined in my Product Model, ''featured_items'',
which returns a recordset from the products table based on certain
find conditions.
I simply want to paginate this recordset, not the whole products
table, using the paginate helper.
After reading the Rails docs, I''m still struggling to work out how, in
my ''list'' view, to
