calculating correlation coefficients on repeated measures
Dear list,
I have 9 repeated measures (measurement variable == 'Delta13C') for
individuals (ID variable == 'Individual_ID'. Each repeated measure is
"indexed" (right term?) by the variable 'FeatherPosition' and given as
c('P1', 'P2', 'P3', 'P4', 'P5', 'P6', 'P7', 'P8', 'P9'). I would like

Identifying records with the correct number of repeated measures
Dear list,
I have a dataset where we sampled multiple individuals either 1 or 9
times. Our measurement variable is 'Delta13C' (see below sample
dataset). I cannot figure out how to efficiently use a vector command
(preferably) or a loop to create a new vector of the names of the
individuals sampled 9 times. Note that the 'FeatherPosition' variable
will only be "P1" for

Testing for the Xen Project
Hi all,
you probably have all heard by now that the Xen Project Advisory Board

intended to be used for the good of the community) recently created the

Group.http://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/AB_WG/Test_Frameworkcontains more

How to create a loop and then extract values from the list generated by cor.test
Dear all,
I would like to conduct a Pearson's correlation using cor.test
separately for each individual in my data set. Each individual has
nine observations of the measurement variable 'Delta13C'. I can figure
our how to do it manually one 'Individual_ID' at a time, but I cannot
figure out how to automate the process (a loop I am guessing). In
addition, I would like to

convert variable types when creating data frame from cor.test results
Dear list,
The below dataset and code creates a new dataset with the results from
the function cor.test being performed on each individual
('Individual_ID') from my original dataset. How do I convert each
variable from the cor.test results to a numeric data type, as it is
passed into the new dataframe? For example, 'estimate', 'p.value', and
'conf.int' should be

Turning off InvalidAuthenticityToken for a RESTful Service
Hi,
I was trying to write a RESTful service and was planning on testing
via tools such as cURL and the basic http libs. With the
InvalidAuthenticityToken piece that is turned by default in Rails
2.0.2, I have to provide the token with each request. This is
something of a pain for a programmable client that may not make a GET
request before performing other actions, specifically POST, PUT and

Pure Java theora implementation - LGPL
I've started working on a pure-java port of Theora under the LGPL, as a
subproject of FMJ, the open-source implementation of JMF. It is similar
to and dependent on the jogg/jorbis libraries from jcraft.
The Cortado implementation is nice, but since it is GPL, that is too
restrictive for FMJ, which is LGPL.
This is, naturally, a large undertaking, and any help by anyone
interested would

MASS library rob.cov ellipse
Hi,
I used to get a really useful graph when I ran the following command
using the MASS library:
> cov.rob(cbind(dekeyser$AGE,dekeyser$GJTSCORE),cor=T)
Besides the regular output, a graph appeared that had the classical
correlation and the robust correlation, and two ellipses, one
surrounding the data that would be used in the classical correlation and
the other surrounding the data in the

We are looking for some data sets working with relative risk mortality.
so, someone know where can I find the data.mgus dataset and the data.mgus?

Effect sizes
I'm just curious . . . if effect sizes are so important, and possibly a better way of looking at results than p-values, since they don't depend on effect size (Kline,2004; Murphy and Myors, 2004), why don't any of the classical tests, like t.test or glht specified for Tukey's posthocs, return effect sizes? I say "classical" because I'm sure there may be packages out

I see. Yes that's the same problem I have seen.
There is a behavioral difference (I think it's a FreeBSD bug) between
FreeBSD's iconv(3) and GNU implementation, and there is arguably a bug
with Dovecot that iconv(3) state should be reset for each multipart
part. The two together would trigger the problem

Samba Issues
Looks like the samba developers are forcing ldap users to use a new
attribute list.
Old (our current):
ntPassword, lmPassword
New:
sambaNtPassword, sambaLmPassword
The 3.0.6 release was a bugfix only, no exploits. I'm going to revert
to 3.0.5 and up the priority on LDAP just a tad. I'll modify the
update script to ignore these samba ones for now...

How to get the duration of a file or track?
I'm starting with the theora player_example.c. I want to be able to
determine the duration of the audio/video ahead of time, to be able to
display it somewhere.
I can't see anything obvious in ogg.h, theora.h, or vorbis.h for this.
Can anyone help me with the right place to look to do this?
Thanks,

Counting observations split by a factor when there are NAs in the data
I am a very novice R user, a social scientist (linguist) who is trying
to learn to use R after being very familiar with SPSS. Please be kind!
My concern:
I cannot figure out a way to get an accurate count of observations of
one column of data split by a factor when there are NAs in the data.
I know how to use commands like tapply and summaryBy to obtain other
summary statistics I am interested

Comparing models in multiple regression and hierarchical linear regression
I don?t know if this question properly belongs on this list, but I?ll ask it here because I?ve been using R to run linear regression models, and it is only in using R (after switching from using SPSS) that I have discovered the process of fitting a linear model. However, after reading Crowley (2002), Fox (2002), Verzani (2004), Dalgaard (2002) and of course searching the R-help archives I cannot

Asterisk with MySQL Cluster
I have MySQL Cluster set up for OpenSIPS which allows for the best Redundant
High-Availability. I was wondering if it's possible for Asterisk to also
use multiple database servers for Realtime? Currently with Realtime I am
only able to point to a single IP address for a database. If that database
server goes down that Asterisk is pointed to then Asterisk won't be able to
do anything.

Don't feel stupid. I'd guess you're using 2.4 kernel and not the 2.2 kernel?
In 2.2 services default to using inet.d
In 2.4 services default to using xinetd to start stuff.
You need to go to /etc/xinet.d and make sure the file swat
has a "disable=no" in it.
As a matter of fact, for security purposes, I'd do a vi * in that directory (/etc/xinet.d ) and make sure
