/proc/xen/xenbus supports watch?
Hi, Anybody (Christian?) could please tell me if we can get the support for registering watch with /proc/xen/xenbus? (..OK, I know that we will change it this /proc stuff to a device soon) So far we can only do read/write/rm. I really miss the xen watch feature. Many thanks, Hieu _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensource.com

xenstore documentation
hi, it would be extremely useful for me if someone with knowledge of how the current tools and drivers use Xenstore would be kind enough to update the Wiki with current information. I have been spending quite a lot of time trying to get my domU connected to a block device in dom0 using a home-brewed domain creation tool, and I am still at the ''Timeout connecting to device!''

question on xenbus priv in dom0
Hi, In domU, we can''t use xenbus to access anything outside of the domain''s home. That means we are being restricted from reading/writing to other domain''s xenstore. That is perfectly fine, and nobody complains here. But in dom0, do we have the exception? Since dom0 is trusted, I think we can be allowed to access to all other domU''s xenstore. Is that

Basic xenstore questions (building a watchdog)
I''m looking at building a xenstore-based watchdog, as described at http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2005-07/msg00597.html However, being somewhat new to xenstore, I''d appreciate some pointers. - What portions of the xenstore namespace should I use? I''m looking for at least two settings writable by the DomUs: A flag to enable/disable the watchdog

Paravirtualized Linux with graphics (X Window)?
Hi, Anybody please tell me how to have a PV Linux with graphics? I succesfully created some PV Linux with debootstrap and xen-tools. But then all the images must be started with "xm create -c" command, and everything then is console, with no X Window. In short, I want to have PV Linux, but with X. How to do that? Xenbus watch firing over and over
hi, I am trying to add xenbus watch support to mini-os, but am getting into a endless loop of watches firing over and over. Below is an excerpt from the xenstore tracefile: IN 0x805acc8 20070103 19:32:18 WATCH (/local/domain/0/backend/vif/26/0/state 00043818 ) CREATE watch 0x805a8b8 OUT 0x805acc8 20070103 19:32:18 WATCH (OK ) OUT 0x805acc8 20070103 19:32:18 WATCH_EVENT

watches not working from domU userspace
It seems that xenstore watches do not work from domU userspace (they obviously do for drivers). In some preliminary debugging of this, there are two aspects of the failure: not sending the watch to xenstore and not handling watch events for userspace watches. The former can be easily fixed by adding the missing ''case XS_WATCH:'' to xenbus_dev_write() in xenbus_dev.c. The

xenstore watch for domU shutdown
Hey everyone, I''m trying to write a simple python program in dom0 that registers a watch on the xenstore to determine when a domU has shutdown. Is there a particular token I should use? Looking through the tools/python/xen/*.py code, I''ve come across the ''control/shutdown'' token... seems promising? My code is attached below. As is, if fails to call the

[PATCH] xen/pv-on-hvm kexec: shutdown watches from old kernel
Add xs_reset_watches function to shutdown watches from old kernel after kexec boot. The old kernel does not unregister all watches in the shutdown path. They are still active, the double registration can not be detected by the new kernel. When the watches fire, unexpected events will arrive and the xenwatch thread will crash (jumps to NULL). An orderly reboot of a hvm guest will destroy the

[PATCH 0/2] reset xenstore watches to fix kexec in Xen PVonHVM guests
The following series improves kexec in a Xen PVonHVM guest. It is available via git: git://github.com/olafhering/linux.git xen-kexec-XS_RESET_WATCHES-3.0 A new xenstored command XS_RESET_WATCHES has been added in xen-unstable.hg changeset 23839:42a45baf037d. The command removes all watches and transactions for the guest. The following patches make use of the new command to wipe all existing

problem restarting xenstored
As any other daemon, I''d assume it should be possible to restart xenstored (i.e. if it crashed or if, during development, a fix was made to it that needs to be tested). However, as I learned after over a day of digging, things don''t work anymore after doing so: Since the watches are transient, they''re lost with the daemon going away. Right now I specifically need this in

using @releaseDomain to subscribe for domain destruction
Hello!. How can i use @releaseDomain from dom0 to subscribe for domain destruction? I''m try to add watch for @releaseDomain path with token equal of needed domain id. But when another domain dies, i get domain that i provide via token to xs_watch. Is that possible to get id of domain what released from xenstore? -- Vasiliy Tolstov, Clodo.ru e-mail: v.tolstov@selfip.ru jabber:

[PATCH] Convert shutdown to use xenstore
The attached patch: 1. Converts the shutdown driver and xend to use the store instead of control messages, 2. Includes Anthony''s xenstore notification code, and 3. Changes xend so that sysrq''s are no longer sent as "special case" shutdown messages. Store keys are cheap, so making the sysrq delivery less obscure is good. I think I have made all of the

xl is unable to find xenstored.pid
I just downloaded Xen-4.1.1 from xen.org, compiled it, and installed it. I then compiled kernel 3.0.0 and added the hypervisor and dom0 kernel in a grub 2 entry. After booting, I executed "xl list," to confirm the hypervisor was running. I was greeted with this message: libxl: error: libxl.c:56:libxl_ctx_init Is xenstore daemon running? failed to stat /var/run/xenstored.pid: No such

xenfs: race condition on xenstore watch
Dear xen-devel, There''s a race condition in xenfs (xenstore driver) that causes userspace utility xenstore-watch to crash. Normally, the userspace process gets an "OK" from xenfs and then the watch fires immediately after. Occasionally, this happens the other way around: the watch fires before the driver sends "OK", which confuses the xenstore-watch client. It seems

[PATCH V4 0/2] xenbus: Fix S3 frontend resume when xenstored is not running
Hi, This patch series fixes the S3 resume of a domain running xenstored and a frontend over xenbus (xen-netfront in my use case). As device resume is happening before process resume, the xenbus frontend resume is hanging if xenstored is not running, thus causing a deadlock. This patch series is fixing that issue by deferring the xenbus frontend resume when we are running xenstored in that same

[PATCH 0 of 4 V2] oxenstored fixes -- fixes recent pvops kernel hang
Currently PVHVM Linux guests after ddacf5ef684a "xen/pv-on-hvm kexec: add xs_reset_watches to shutdown watches from old kernel" hang when run against oxenstored because it does not handle the unknown XS_RESET_WATCHES operation and does not reply. The symptom of this issue is a hang during boot at this point: cpu 1 spinlock event irq 70 CPU 1 irqstacks, hard=dec94000

[PATCH][RFC] permit domU userspace to watch xenstore
Hello, This patch allows userspace tools on a domU to setup a watch on the xenstore. It does this by intercepting XS_WATCH requests written to /proc/xen/xenbus and then re-submitting the request to the in-kernel xenstore interface, in linux-2.6-xen-sparse/drivers/xen/xenbus/xenbus_xs.c. When a callback occurs, an in-kernel function is invoked, which then reconstructs a response in the format
