refreshing indexes?
I am new to ferret and am just reading about it in the O''reilly
shortcuts as well as other web resources. My app is a Rails app and so
I am looking into acts_as_ferret as well. There are some questions for
which I couldn''t find answers in the material I have read so far so
I''d appreciate any help on these from the list.
A bit of a background. My app will have 10,000 -

Ferret/AAF Stability?
Hello. I''m the author of DataMapper (http://datamapper.org), and am
trying to choose what Full-Text-Indexing engine/plugin I want to
include by default. I was hoping you guys could help. :-)
Sphinx comes highly recommended, but without live index updates, it
just doesn''t seem practical for most of my work.
I''m most experienced with Solr, but the whole HTTP::Request and

Reducing dependency on remote ferret process
Hi.
We use FerretDrb for search. If the ferret process is down, our entire
application comes down the moment we try to save a model which is indexed.
Is there a way to decouple this relationship such that we can somehow
resume normal operations despite ferret being down and not index the model?
Thanks.

indexing only the changed values
Hi all,
i have model A which has a field indexed from model B. model A belongs
to model B.
So whenever i insert a row in model ''A'', a query is fired to the field from
model ''B'' even though the data was not changed for the field in model B.
Can i somehow avoid these extra queries,or rather query the data and index
it,only if the data has been changed>?

utility of default_field
The documentation* states that when using a single index for multiple
models, the default_field list should be set to the same thing for
all models.
However, in my application, all my models have very different fields
and this is not possible. I still want the results returned sorted by
term frequency across all indexed content in each model.
What is the purpose of default_field? Under

Can''t disable ferret when running in Mongrel
In my environment.rb I say the following:
MyModel.disable_ferret
puts MyModel.ferret_enabled?
The console works as expected:
script/console
false
>> MyModel.ferret_enabled?
=> false
I can then edit an instance, ferret remains disabled and the changes
are not immediately indexed.
However, when I start mongrel Ferret is initially disabled, but then
somehow becomes enabled again

Drb - shared app with multiple private databases - howto?
Hello,
I''ve been trying to get my head around ferret and the one thing that
stumps me is how I might use Drb on a dedicated server with multiple
clients using the SAME application but each with their own private
database and other file assets (in an uploads directory within the
app)
Thank you for any suggestions, pointer etc.
Also I''d be very interested in hearing from those

MySQL has gone away
Hi,
in a production environment we are running into "MySQL server has gone
away" errors (see below) when we call rebuild_index in aaf. This happens
sporadically.
Any suggestions for what might be wrong or workarounds? I guess we try a
reconnect before we call rebuild_index?

Weird analyzer issue with the word ''fly''
Hi all
I''m using a_a_f in rails with a StemmingAnalyzer, in the index and in my
search. I got the idea from this topic:
http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/80178
I''m having a problem with some search terms - i narrowed one of them
down to the inclusion of the word ''fly''. Can anyone give me any clues
at to what might be happening, or even how i can investigate?

Parallel indexing doesn''t work?
Hi,
I''m trying to get parallelized ferret indexing working for my AAF
indices, based on the example in the O''Reilly Ferret shortcut.
However, the resulting indices after merging seem to have no actual
documents.
I went and made minimal changes to the example in the Ferret shortcut
pdf, and indeed can''t get that to work either. I''d appreciate any help

ferret acts_as_ferret and performance
hello,
I am actually indexing thousands of 1ko text documents using ferret and
acts_as_ferret, and i face performance problems.
I takes me hours to index 20 000 1ko text documents.
Methology used :
I create and object, fulfill it with the text, and save it. So it is
automaticly indexed.
Is there a way to make it faster ? ( remove the auto optimize option
somewhere ?)
Thank you if you have any

AAF index updated when record is deleted?
Got it all running nicely now for a few days but noticed something
funny. I have a table were lots of records get added, deleted every day.
I can see the added records being added by AAF to the index but I
notices some "ghost" results when doing searches. The search returns
record ID-s that do not exist anymore because they were deleted.
Does AAF also remove entries from the index when
