HTML Title
Hi there,
If I have an application.rhtml template what''s the best way to set
the contents of title element in the html -> head area of the
template to something set in the view for action in a controller. I
want to just have one template which renders the basic layout for all
pages and I''ve been scratching my head over this one for a couple of
hours now.
Any help

I just finished writing this plug-in. I''ve been using rails for awhile
but this is my first time extracting some code and writing it as a

Help with graphs in A4 size
Hi,
I need to generate complex graphics which have to be shown in the plot window but also in pdf file, and they must have A4 size. This is the reason why I use width=8.27 and heigth=11.69.
The problem is that I don't make it runs when I put something (text, lines, and so on) outside the plot region.
I mean if I run the following code, it works perfectly, because the text "My

I was trying to read in a file and delete lines that did not have the
correct
number of fields on them. I was reading the file as one character vector

using 'scan' with sep='\n'. I was then using 'count.fields' with
'textConnection' to the object I just read in.
I thought at first the system was locked up, but further testing showed

Conceptual Design Question
Hi All,
I am making a DAM (seems to be the hip thing to do these days). It is
for the company that I work for. We have some really weird domain
rules that have prevented me from just using a simple directory
structure file permission system. I have come up with a solution but I
wanted to run it by you gurus to ensure that I am not recompiling the
wheel here.
Basically the domain rule is:

User/group/role model question
Hi.
I have an app where "users" can belong in "groups" with certain "roles"
(eg. a user can own a group).
Normally I''d make users has_and_belongs_to_many groups and put a role_id
on the join table. But - a role is really a first class citizen also, so
a model is in order.
The problem with making a "role" model which has_many "users"

using markdown in a forum?
Hi,
Is markdown a good language to use in a web forum application? How does
it compare to bbcode in features and ease-of-use for non-technical
users?
I'm thinking of using jquery-markedit in that forum app.
Thanks,

Too many login generators?
there is a blog about it
http://www.realityforge.org/articles/2005/11/12/aaa_in_rails
There are so many Authentication/Authorization/Auditing generators now,
just like the situation in java''s world, Too many components doing the
samething just make me confusion. Why not add one to rails core lib and
everybody can extend it for their requirement ?

plot() and lines() multivariate problem
Dear list
I'm trying to solve the following problem since 2 days with no success.
Could someone help a newbie, please ?
I have a dependant variable which is diameter of shell, and two factors
which are level on the beach (3 levels 'B', 'E' and 'H') and a hydrodynamics
indice (3 levels 1, 2 and 3)
To study diameter variations according to these factors, I may use

Rails and user authentification
I am a the point now where I have to add user authentification to my

Anyone can point me toward an easy to use / secure library? I know about
ActiveRBAC and was wondering if there is anything else that I should
consider.
Thanks!

break axis using plotrix
Dear all,
I am trying to plot some data with differing range in y-values with
type="b", adding error bars and break the y-axis into two parts, one
lower part from 12 to 20, and one upper part from 34 to 40.
I have tried to follow the basic ideas from the script provided here by
Jim Lemon:

My attempt looks like this:

ActiveRBAC?
How''s the experience with using ActiveRBAC? For my "next 4 days with
rails" :P I''d like to consider adding Role-based access to the To-Do
List application in the original "four days w/ rails" tutorial.
Just wondering if ActiveRBAC would be a good place to start? Thanks!

How much Ruby?
I bought the pickaxe about 1 1/2 months ago, and I have been reading through
it and learning Ruby in my spare time. I''m about 200 pages into it, and I''m
starting to think I don''t need to know all of the in''s and out''s of Ruby to
get a good hang on Rails.
How much Ruby do I really need to be proficient in Rails? Ruby is a great
language, I love it, but

Windows XP Pro and Samba (file saving)
Sometimes when I save a file to a samba-shared drive the application is
unable to save there and asks if the file is write protected or if the disk
is full.
If I then save it to a local drive and copy it there using Windows
Explorer, it can overwrite the file fine.
Do I need to make that myriad of changes to my XP Pro registry?
Most of the time it works fine, just from time to time it will give
