Basic (newbie) Webrick / ssl config question
I have a simple Intranet app I want to make accessible via the Internet for remote access by our employees. I want to use ssl (https) connections and I''ve found enough messages to imply Webrick as included in rails can do the job. The message at http://wrath.rubyonrails.org/pipermail/rails/2005-January/001993.html even appears to tell me exactly how to do it by modifying

Webrick, access log, don''t log everything
Is it possible to somehow limit webrick access log (:AccessLog in HTTPServer). But I don''t want to log access to certain URL, which is served by specific servlet. To be clearer - I have a simple servlet, that just response hello and username of authenticated user, mounted on [server]/hello. This URL is used to monitor if the server is alive, so it''s accessed every five

Do module source code changes require reboot of WEBrick?
Assume that I refactor some code into a module and "require it into" my controller. Do I then need to restart my WEBrick server each time that I change the module? Thanks, Wes -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Struggling with javac
I've installed jdk-1_5_0_08-linux-i586.rpm and Tomcat. Working through some initial test install programs, I am finding that I can't seem to compile .java files into classes. For instance... javac -classpath /usr/local/tomcat/common/lib/servlet.jar HelloWorld.java as instructed fails with a gij: unrecognized option -- `-classpath' Try `gij --help' for more information. So

SSL [X.509] Authentication in Rails?
Been doing some research but haven''t been able to determine much - has anyone had any experience parsing incoming [on the request] x.509 certificates? Specifically, getting name, CA, etc. Here''s how you do in Java Servlets for reference: X509Certificate[] certs = (X509Certificate[]) request.getAttribute("javax.servlet.request.X509Certificate"); Thanks. --

lighttpd / WEBrick forum?
Is there a mail list or USENET group for lighttpd WEBrick questions. I posted a simple CGI question to this list last week and got one responce and that responce told me I was on the wrong list with Ruby based from / CGI questions. The code I posted looks correct but does not work giving a Routing Error. This makes me think something is wrong with the set up of WEBrick. I am only doing

Rails on Tomcat or JBoss?
Hi all, The Rails book talks about running Rails under Apache, but is there a (relatively) easy way to deploy it to either Tomcat or JBoss? Is the CGI servlet the only option? Thanks, Ken -- Kenneth A. Kousen, Ph.D. President Kousen IT, Inc. <http://www.kousenit.com> http://www.kousenit.com <mailto:ken.kousen@kousenit.com> ken.kousen@kousenit.com

Using R from Java
Hello, I am interesting in using R from a web application, for basic statistics and plots. The server is Java-based (tomcat). The simplest solution is a system call that generates the text or the image, then the servlet forwards the output. This can be done from any language, but it is quite inelegant and slow for the initialization time. Is there any package or approach for accessing R from a

Problem with Java applications
Hi, my name is Dieter and this is my 1st post to the list. I''m currently using shorewall 2.2.5 on SuSE 9.2 and java 1.4.2_06. Overall everything works as expected. The problem I have occurs with previous versions of shorewall, too. Problem: When I start a java application like crushftp it takes about 2 minutes until the server is functional. If I try to interrupt the startup process

Dovecot Solr Panic
Hello Everyone, I have a small base of users (30), but a lot of emails. I have an error again when I am indexing a virtual folder with a large number of folders. I appreciate this is a special case, but I am using dovecot and solr as it is, according to the documentation, the favourite way. One user is using a large number of archives sub folders, by years, months and subfolders, since 5 years.

Ajax.Request abort question
im using an Ajax.Request to hit a java servlet and do some processing. during this time, if the user feels the process is taking too long, he/she can hit a cancel button to kill the request... by calling the *abort*function off of the transport, will that kill the processing that my server is doing as well or just make the client think that the process has ended? right now i cant seem to get

Originating Client Request
Hi, I''m a newbie to Mongrel, so apologies if this is a dumb question. I''m trying to write a Mongrel handler to give my the *raw* client request, however all I seem to be able to get is the CGI headers using the Mongrel API. I want to be able to capture the originating request, not the CGI version as it may contain issues (like case, underscore''s rather than

Init lifecycle and rails
In a servlet J2EE application, there is an init style method that gets called after that servlet is loaded. Is there something similar within a rails controller context. I am looking for something where I can load and setup a particular object. Also, what about with sessions as well. I would like to call some library when a user session begins and possibly kill that object when the

I offer my apologies in advance for the repost. On a list as busy as this, it is sometimes easy to get missed in the shuffle. I am trying to create, display and edit a referenced object''s text field on the same view as my root object. Charts and Java servers
Hi, As a long time Java/J2EE exponent I wanted to give Rails a fair crack of the whip and after we evaluated it for several weeks I have to say I like it. The installation process for the base system/framework is straightforward on the two platforms we''ve tried (Windows and Mac OS X). However, the charting components available, relying on ImageMagick or GraphicsMagick seem less clear

Servlet streamed Ogg skips
I am writing a J2EE servlet based web application that delivers streamed audio from a database. In response to a web request it responds with an M3U file containing a link back to a servlet that delivers the audio. I am testing this with WinAmp configured as the media player. The browser properly starts WinAmp which then sends the correct request for the audio. My servlet responds with a

starting webrick from ruby (tar2rubyscript.rb)
I am using tar2rubyscript to package up a rails application and run it as one file from the server. If you run script/server and have lighttpd install it will start lighty instead of webrick. So, thanks to Erik Veenstra''s suggestion, I add ARGV.unshift("webrick") to the init.rb file to force webrick to start: ARGV.unshift("webrick") load "script/server"
