MultiTerm query segfault - remote denial of service
Hi ferreteers,
I came across a segfault in the query parser. It had already been
reported[1] and fixed[2], but it can lead to a denial of service.
If you use Ferret anywhere that you allow users to execute queries,
those users can crash your Ruby process with a specially crafted
query.
I''m sure you''re all using Monit or something for your Rails or drb
processes, so

mdct explanation
...as promised.
This describes the mdct used in my d.m.l patch. I think it is the
same as the Lee fast-dct.
I typed it in a kind of pseudo-TeX, 'cause the ascii art would
kill me. Hope you can read TeX source; if not, ask someone who
can to make a .ps/.gif/.whatever of the TeX output, and put it
on a webpage or something. I'm to lazy to do it (and besides, I
don't have access to TeX,

samba, ADS and privileges management
Hello list.
I once had a samba server acting as a PDC, a mapping between my NT
'Domain admins' and Unix 'admins' groups, and everything worked perfectly.
Now I got a new shiny samba server acting as a print server only, member
of an AD domain, and I can't have the members of 'Domain admins' group
manage printing drivers on the server, whereas the Administrator

Is it R or I?
Salutations:
I have been trying to translate a S-PLUS/ArcInfo (GIS software) application
that I wrote on a SGI (IRIX) platform to public domain R and GrassGIS on
a Linux platform. I am almost on the verge of abandoning it as I find R to
be
rather unstable, slow and frustrating.
I enclose a section of my code for R experts to examine
hoping that they'll point out that all the above three are

lpSolve constraints don't seem to have an effect
Dear R users,
I would like to optimize a linear approximation of a quadratic function
using lpSolve. My code runs without any error or warning message but the
constraints that I set don't seem to work properly.
Nevertheless, I am certain that my code is somewhere wrong.
I would like to solve the following problem:
max 2x-x^2+y
subject to
2x^2 + 3y^2 <= 6
2>= x,y >= 0
I would

Two problems with Samba in AD realm
Hello list.
I recently moved to an AD environment. I'm still keeping a samba servers
to make my cups-managed printers available to windows users, rather than
duplicating configuration with a Windows print service. But I'm facing
two problems, probably due to the way we manage AD.
First, all my host belong to a Unix-managed DNS domain
(msr-inria.inria.fr), not to the windows-managed

Math characters in column heading using latex() in Hmisc
Hi Everybody
I want to print a latex table containing math characters in the column
heading
These are the formulae I want to use as column headings. It prints OK from
TeX
$\sum_{i}\sum_{j}C_{P,i,j,y}\times\mathit{FC}_{i}$, $XU_{alt,y}$, $n$,
$\bar{C}_{P,y}$
My plan was to create a character vector with these and later rbind the
values to them. When I create the vector like:

[Posible SPAM] Re: Stopwords: Topic modelling con LDA
Hola,

Added code and tests for the tf-idf weighting scheme.
Hello guys.I have sent a pull request for the code and tests of the Tf-Idf
weighting scheme.
Please do let me know if any changes are required.Meanwhile,Ill begin
working on implementing normalizations which require additional statistics
and on the DFR schemes.

How to speed up interpolation
df is a very large data frame with arrival estimates for many flights
(DF$flightfact) at random times (df$PredTime). The error of the estimate
is df$dt.
My problem is that I want to know the prediction error at each minute
before landing. This code works, but is very slow, and dominates
everything. I tried using split(), but that rapidly ate up my 12 GB of
memory. So, is there a better R way of

Boost Sorting with Acts_as_ferret?
Hey guys,
Simple question here.
I have a single index of recipes, from which I''m looking at the
following fields: Name, Ingredient Text, Tags, and Description.
The key is, I want to show all the results that come from Name,
before I show any of the results from Ingredient Text, Tags, or
Description.
I tried doing this:

[LLVMdev] LLVM Dev Mtg
I saw Tanya's note about this year's LLVM developers' meeting.
It would be interesting if the time could coincide with IDF
2009 (Sep. 22-24). I'm sure some LLVM folks would be interested
in attending IDF as well. Perhaps hold the LLVM conference the
day before or after IDF?

bootstrap generalization error
Hello,
I use the following function "bootstrapge" to calculate (and compare) the generalization error of several bootstrap implementations:
##
## Calculates and returns a coefficient corresponding to the generalization
## error. The formula for the bootstrap generalization error is:
## $N^{-1}\sum_{i=1}^n B^{-1}\sum_{j=1}^B |y_i - (\beta_n^{*j})^T x|$

weighted kernel density estimation
Dear wizaRds,
I use the MASS::kde2d function to estimate density of the two first
principal components. I do that to have a graphic visualisation of a
"group structure" in my dataset. So far, no problem.
But i would like to estimate that density using weights according to the
COS?? values that tells me if my observation is well represented on the
factorial plan 1-2. I would like to

and i want to calculate sum_{i=1}^k
sum_{j=1}^{n_i}x_{ij}*y_{ij}
is there a simple way to do this within and between
subject summation in R?

Confusion about ecdf
Hi,
I'm bit confused about ecdf (read the help files but still not sure about
this). I have an analytical expression for the pdf, but want to get the
empirical cdf. How do I use this analytical expression with ecdf?
If this helps make it concrete, the pdf is:
f(u) = \sum_{t = 1}^T 1/n_t \sum_{i = 1}^{n_t} 1/w K((u - u_{it})/w)
where K = kernel density estimator, w = weights, and u_{it} =

mlogit package inquiry
Dear all,
? I am implementing a stochastic utility model that will eventually
make use of multinomial logit. I found that there is a package in R
called mlogit. I am not sure whether I have already found the correct
package or software. May I ask am I correct?
? Basically, let's say
? I have observations of n outcomes, for each outcome 1<=i<=n, they
were selected by a choice from a set
