[AAF] remote indexing via DRb with acts_as_ferret
Hi! Aaf trunk has undergone several major refactorings the last days, with the result that you can now transparently switch your app from local to remote indexing and back :-) If you plan to scale your app to more than one physical machine, or if you have problems with corrupted indexes and the like under high load, you really should give this a try. I wrote some documentation to get you

Problem with setting up remote indexing
Hello, I have been trying to set up the remote indexing for acts_as_ferret and followed the guide here: http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/wiki/DrbServer I added :remote => true to my models and then specified host and port for the production environment. After defining the host/port for production, I tried to run my development server and received the following error:

AAF quirks in production mode
So my ferret behaves nicely in dev mode, but I just deployed and now he is not happy! First thing I noticed was that in general my app would not start with a folder called "development" in my index folder, so I changed it to "production" and now my app is functioning. However, when I try to search I get errors, which you can see here: http://pastie.caboo.se/61767 Im

DRb server & aaf gem
I''m having problems getting the DRb server running with the aaf gem. I tried it with the plugin installed in my application, and it worked. I suspect the problem has something to do with the startup scripts expecting certain files to be in certain relative file paths. Any insights are appreciated, and maybe if you have time you can update the wiki document :) Thanks for a great

More sorting problems with untokenized index
I''m having problems sorting on untokenized fields. I have one field that sorts fine, but there are others that seem to sort on a different field. Here''s the index description: acts_as_ferret :remote=>true,:fields=>{:name=>{:boost=>2},:name_for_sort=>{:index => :untokenized}, :city=>{:boost=>2}, :city_for_sort=>{:index=>:untokenized},

Cacti - Monitor Ferret Server Stats?
I''m wondering if someone can point me in a direction to monitor the ferret drb server while using cacti. Is it possible to run multiple instances of ferret drb on the same machine, just on different ports? Will it still update the index properly, or will you get collision? New to moving over to the drb server. Thanks. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Acts_as_ferret and auto-flush
Hi, I''m using acts_as_ferret in with a mongrel and I'' m getting locking errors that after a while result in a corrupt database. I know about the problem with different processes writing to the index but I haven''t been able to get the DRB server working properly yet. I read on this list that another solution is to set :auto_flush to true but I''m not

acts_as_ferret and capistrano
Hi, I''d like to share the ferret indexes between deployments of a Rails app. At the moment the index is stored in #{RAILS_ROOT}/index meaning that it gets moved and must be rebuilt after every deploy. I guess the simplest solution would be to put it under log/ which is already shared by capistrano, any other ideas? Also, script/ferret_stop doesn''t work when run on a fresh

Do delegates work properly in Drb mode?
Hi folks, I have several models that index well in Drb mode. However, I have one scenario where it works in normal mode, but not in Drb mode. model A field :one end model B belongs_to :a field :two delegate :one, :to => :a acts_as_ferret :fields => { :one => {}, :two => {} }, :remote => true end If I leave off the :remote parameter, it works. Or, if I don''t

programatically stopping acts_as_ferret drb server
I need a way to kill the ferret_server drb process programatically, so I can start/stop it as part of the capistrano deployment process. This should be as simple as adding some sort of stop method to ActsAsFerret::Remote::Server. I was just messing around and was able to do it by modifying method_missing to look for the :stop method and then calling DRb.thread.exit -- this is not good enough for

Lock errors and segfaults

Is anyone successfully using acts_as_ferret with Ferret 0.11.4?
Hi all, I upgraded from Ferret 0.11.3 to Ferret 0.11.4 because I was getting intermittent segfaults that seemed to be due to a bug which was fixed (changeset 749). Unfortunately, 0.11.4 + acts_as_ferret seems to be a bad combination. I''m getting the some "fs_store/File Not Found Error occured at <except.c>:117" which was reported in the "Constant 0.11.4

Inifinite loop problem with DRb server
Hi all, We''re attempting to use Ferret with the DRb server at the moment, and it doesn''t work, at all... = Executive Summary The DRb server process keeps on calling the remote index to the DRb server process... Which means DRb is calling itself, and itself, and itself, until Ruby kills the Thread with a SystemStackLevel error. = The excruciating details... # Mongrel is

Many index files
I''m using acts_as_ferret and have indexed a model with acts_as_ferret :fields => [:name, :ascii_name, :alt_names], :single_index => true. Now in the index directory more than 95.000 files are generated! The number of tuples I''m indexing is approx. 86.000. I can''t remember this from earlier ferret/acts_as_ferret versions where I''ve indexed millions of
