PDF fonts problem
Dear List, I am writing a paper in Hungarian, that I Sweave and than pdfLaTeX. Everything is fine, except for two accented letters in the graphs that behave strange, though on the screen and in eps exports they look perfect. The problem is that I need pdf graphs, since I would like to have a PDF after LaTeX-ing. For the example below I downloaded the following two font sets: 1. Latin Modern

[Repost, with Formatting] Trying to understand unicode character entry, goes into postgres DB backing rails, saved to yaml as \xc4\x81
Apologies on unformatted send previously, i hit Enter and the web UI posted, to my chagrin. 1. Examine the Unicode standard''s code page collection for "Latin small letter a with macron". 2. Nets U0100.pdf 3. "Latin small letter a with macron" appears on chart as 0101. This is a hexidemial number which points to U+0101 as its code point. Converting 0101 to decimal

Wine 0.9.7 failure report: hungarian tax software
Hi, I wanted to try Wine whether it was capable of running "Abev", the official hungarian tax software. http://www.apeh.hu/cgi-bin/lap.php?id=prog/pr2006 Main installer is: http://www.apeh.hu/cgi-bin/pil2006.pl?abev2006telep.exe and one has to install at least one tax form type for this software to be usable. Choose one of the numbered tax form installers, e.g.:

Accented characters in share names
Hello, I'm facing a problem that should be common but for which I don't find much info. I'm trying to smbmount some smb share served by a w2k3 server. I've no problem to mount the shares unless their name includes accented letters. I've successfully replaced the spaces in the names by \040 but replacing the accented letter by their UTF-8 and latin-1 in octal value, but

incomplete smbmount smbfs Win98SE iso8859-1 translation in kernel 2.4.18
I'm getting only partial iso8859-1 translation from an smbfs mount from my Win98SE machine. The smbfs mounted file system shows most lower-case accented characters fine; but, it substitutes underscores for most of the upper-case accented characters (and a few lower-case ones too): # uname -a Linux elm 2.4.18-8.1mdkian3 #7 Sat Aug 17 15:19:44 EDT 2002 i686 unknown (Mandrake 8.2 Linux with all

Small encoding question
Dear developeRs, Compilation of the latest version (0.9-5) of my actuar package fails with r-release MacOS_X ix86 on CRAN; see http://www.R-project.org/nosvn/R.check/r-release-macosx-ix86/actuar-00check.html All errors come from accented letters in comments in latin-1 encoded files (except hierarc.R which is in UTF-8, my bad). Encoding is declared as latin-1 in DESCRIPTION. The package

printing ISO/8859-1 characters
Hi, I ran into an odd problem with the print command for R-2.0 on a windows machine. The icelandic character thorn (??,??) which is included in in the Latin-1 character set [iso/8859-1 char# 222 (upper case) and #254 (lower case)] prints out incorrectly. Instead of getting the correct character I get the octal codes for upper and lower case thorn (\336 or \376). This only happens on a windows

overriding system locale on Linux
Hi all Ubuntu linux breezy switched to using UTF-8 as the default encoding. This has created problems for users of Weft QDA - which uses wxruby-0.6.0. When accented characters are encoded in UTF-8, they display brokenly (as you''d expect, with double-byte chars appearing as two wrong characters). But now latin-1 encoded strings with accented characters don''t display at all.

Accented letters in shared USB drive (was: Share USB pendrive in ADSL router)
Rodolfo Medina <rodolfo.medina at gmail.com> writes: > I'm new to use of Samba. I plugged a USB pendrive into router but don't know > how to mount it. Please help whoevere can. Finally I solved it. First of all, I had to set the USB drive as a `Managed partition' from the router web GUI. Secondly, its right address was `//192.168.1.2/Shared' and not

special characters
Dear R-users, Some hours ago I successfully installed R 1.7.1 on my Linux computer (SuSE 8.1). Now I am trying to get my scripts work which I have written for R/Windows. * While with Windows I was able to use the vowels with the accents present in the Hungarian language: > d$crude.inc<-d$esetsz?m/d$?vk?zepi.l?leksz?m*1000000 > the same line leads to an error on Linux: >

encoding issues even w/o accents
An earlier thread (in 10/2006) discussed encoding issues in the context of R data and the desire to represent accented characters. It matters in another setting: the output generated by R and the seemingly order character "'" (single quote). In particular, R CMD check runs test code and compares the generated output to a saved file of expected output. This does not work reliably

latin1,utf-8...encoding and data
Hello, I have some questions concerning encoding and package distribution. We develop the ade4 package. For some data sets included in the package, there are accentued character (e.g. ?,?...). The data sets have been saved using latin1 encoding, but some of us use utf-8 and can not see some data sets which contains accented chracters. e.g: librarry(ade4) data(rankrock) rankrock in this case,

Conversion error: Illegal multibyte sequence
Hello list, I've noticed this problem for a few years now, I think. I see it popped out now and then in discussions. But they always end before a solution is given. So let's try one more time :-) I have plenty of UTF-8 named files and directories. It's UTF-8 all round, I don't use anything else, so I have no doubt the byte sequences are correct in the filesystem (I happen to
